objectives and sought academic support to conduct this nation-wide initiative involving more than 400 DAV schools. The Apex bodies were very appreciative of foresight and enterprise by DAV College Managing Committee to invest in the human resource development and provided whole hearted academic support in the form of guest faculty, subject experts, training materials and suggestions for designing academic interactions. The selection of the subject-experts was crucial to the success of this interactive programme. Eminent subject-experts actively contributing in designing the syllabi, textual materials and setting

sample question papers for all the subjects with CBSE, were identified and the most articulate of the lot were selected to address and interact with our teachers. Besides these, best teachers from schools of Delhi were invited to be the part of the experts panel to share innovative practices to resolve the problems pertaining to transaction of the curriculum. Nearly seventy (70) resource persons provided quality academic inputs during this programme. Approximately 14,000 DAV teachers teaching classes VIII to XII benefited from this programme. On an average 180-200 queries were raised by the teachers and resolved by the experts

in each one of the 22 workshops. The total number of queries reached up to 5000 during the month long programme. The additional benefit of this exercise was that it also brought about further conceptual clarity for all other subject teachers viewing interactions between their peers and subject-experts. Symbolizing ‘deep se deep jale’ each of the 14,000 teachers enriched during the programme would cascade the learning and enrichment received in this programme to lakhs of students studying in DAV schools all over India.

This issue presents the highlights of thirty training programmes conducted by DPPI for Principals and teachers from March to October 2008. Today the development of science and technology and their effective use has made it possible for the schools to receive quality in-service training at work place with minimum expenditure. DPPI’s latest initiative has used the highly sophisticated EDUSAT, the first and only dedicated educational satellite of Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) to train 14,000 DAV teachers during the Performance Enhancement Programme conducted from September 2 to October 1, 2008. The programme was telecast on IGNOU’s free-to-air interactive channel GYAN DARSHAN-2. Teachers of four hundred (400) DAV schools simultaneously received the training on the T.V screens at their schools through Direct-to-Home (DTH) technology.

The month-long programme targeted the teachers of board-bound classes VIII, X and XII. All the DAV schools affiliated with Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) and DAV Education Board (DAVEB) participated in the interactive Performance Enhancement Programme. This initiative will definitely lead to improvement of students performance in the board examinations which in turn would enhance the image of DAV schools locally and of the DAV organization nationally. In order to ensure latest academic inputs in the programme, the DPPI apprised the Apex educational bodies NCERT and CBSE of the programme

Leadership is about articulating visions, embodying values, and creating the environment within which things can be accomplished. Richards & Engle, 1986. Induction Programme for newly inducted Heads of DAV Schools is held annually by the Directorate of Project Planning and In-service Education, DAV CMC. It aims at equipping newly appointed Heads of DAV Institutions with DAV Educational Philosophy and transforming them into proactive, vibrant academic Leaders. A seven day residential Induction Programme-VIII was organized by DPPI from 24th to 30th May, 2008 at Hansraj College, Delhi University. ABOUT THE MASTER TRAINER PROGRAMME INITIATIVE
Since the launch of the policy of coordinated decentralization of in-service training in 2002, DPPI has been conducting Master Trainer Programmes (MTP) for selected teachers from the selected schools with an objective to equip the Coordinating Resource Centers (CRCs) with in-house faculty. It was expected that these Master Trainers would cascade training to their fellow colleagues at CRCs. But over the past five years it was observed that these master trainers were unable to orient local teachers due to their professional overload and personal commitments. Taking stock of the situation DPPI revised the strategy and decided to prepare master trainer /mentor in every school to ensure an ongoing training of teachers. Peer mentoring component was integrated in MTP by which the participants would be trained in peer mentoring knowledge and skills to enable them to guide their peers on a regular basis. This summer DPPI initiated this project in approximately 200 DAV schools on priority to their training needs as reflected in DAV Performance Analysis-2007. Two series of Master Trainer Programmes in Mathematics and English were organized as given below.
