Volume 9 Issue 1 Summer 2013
Mission Statement
To deepen the spiritual life of each pastoral musician, encourage social interaction among pastoral musicians, provide an educational forum on current issues affecting musical practices in the parish, both for the musician and the clergy, and improve the musical skills of all those involved in music ministry
From the Director…. Summertime in Michigan is such a beautiful season. For many of us in music ministry, it is a little slower pace…choirs take a break until September, no big Holy Days and Seasons with extra Liturgies to prepare, and hopefully, taking some time to rest and relax and enjoy the Godāgiven beauty that surrounds us. It has been great to get to meet so many of our NPM Detroit members at our past events like the Vocal Tech II workshop or dinner at Portofino’s. I hope to get to see you again and meet more of you at the opportunities planned for the upcoming year. If you are planning to attend the NPM Convention in DC at the end of July, I hope you will join us for our chapter dinner. There will be details and sign up on the bulletin/information board at the convention. All who serve in music ministry are invited to our second annual chapter picnic on Sunday, August 25 on the Cathedral grounds. It will include not only a pot luck meal and time to chat with one another but also a tour of the Cathedral and an opportunity to check out the beautiful organ. New this year: NPM Detroit is partnering with AGO (American Guild of Organists) to offer several workshops for organists in the coming year. Details are inside this issue … Be sure to check us out and get more information or sign up for any and all of our events on our web site: NPMDetroit.org or on facebook. God bless, Mary Roesch Chapter Director

EUCHARISTIC PRAYERS
‘… and blessed Joseph, her spouse…’ On May 1, the Congregation for Divine Worship promulgated the decree Paternas Vices. The decree requires that St. Joseph’s name be inserted into all of the Eucharistic prayers. Eucharistic Prayer I, the Roman Canon, has included the name of St. Joseph since 1962, when Blessed John XXIII decreed the universal Church’s patron be inserted into the Roman Canon. Mark the change, since it will probably be some time before we have a revised copy of the Missal in print.
