The PneumoSim is a Digital Breath Sound Simulator that can
be added to any existing CardioSim Digital Heart Sound
Simulator or used as an independent stand-alone instrument.
Each sound is divided in to several elements so students learn
to recognize each sound part - one at time - making complex
sounds easier to recognize. The user can manipulate each
sound as desired. For example, any adventitious sound can
be placed into any 1/3 of the inspiratory or expiratory cycle.
Or an adventitious sound can be added to any normal sound.
Respiration rates can be changed from 10 to 150 breaths per
minute.
The duration of the expiratory cycle can be changed to illustrate
mechanical respiration and a pause of varying length can be
added to the end of inspiration and/or expiration.
The sounds are selected from a menu. There are 30 different
breath sounds presented with all their variations. The display
of the sounds can be flat or with an upward/downward ramp
as desired.
As with the CardioSim, the PneumoSim allows thin instructor
to preprogram lectures saving time and improving the
presentation
The PneumoSim is supplied with a patient auscultation system
to allow display and recording of patients or students. Filters
enable the frequency to be altered and baseline noise reduced.

SAM II, the Student Auscultation Manikin
Class Teaching with the SimulScope
Group teaching in a classroom or auditorium is easily accomplished. Place the
stethoscope on SAM with students and instructor wearing Wireless HeartMan
Infrared Headphones. Everyone hears simultaneously with perfect clarity.
The instructor knows exactly what students are hearing. Group teaching
can be performed with the SimulScope, Classroom Infrared Emitter,
Auditorium Infrared Sound System Wireless E-Scope Electronics Stethoscope or
the Cardionics Low-frequency Speaker System. The SimulScope or Classroom
Infrared Emitter will accommodate groups of 25-30 while the Auditorium Infrared
Sound System can handle from 1 to 500.
Listen to SAM with Your Own Stethoscope
SAM presents 27 heart sounds, 21 breath sounds, 20 bowel sounds, 4 carotid bruits and
a carotid pulse timed with the onset of systole. Some heart sounds have breath sounds
included. The sounds are located in the correct anatomical site. Heart sounds are located
at the aortic, pulmonic, tricuspid and mitral areas. Breath sounds are upper and lower
right and left chest and four posterior sites. Bowel sounds are in the upper right and
left quadrants. There is one site for carotid bruits in the neck. Breath sounds can be
diminished at the lower lung while maintaing normal volume at the upper chest to present
a variety of clinical conditions. When listening to a split S
2
in the pulmonic area, breath
sounds are heard simultaneously. Students learn that S
2
splits on inspiration and closes on
expiration. Instructors maintain control over the volume at each listening site.
Identify Systole by Carotid Pulse
Palpation
When assessing heart sounds, it is essential to
differentiate systole from diastole. Because sys-
tole begins with the frst heart sound (S
1
), SAM
has a carotid pulse timed with each frst heart
sound. Students palpate SAM's carotid pulse
while listening to heart sounds.
The key to Patient Assessment
Students access SAM On-Line 24/7 from any PC connected to the Internet. Repeti-
tion assists students in learning, relearning or refreshing their auscultation skills.
SAM On-Line has same sounds as SAM. Comparison of sounds is available and
easy to access.
Phonocardiographic Display. SAM II presents a phonocardiogram
with every heart sound. Instructors project the phonocardiogarms for full audi-
ence viewing. When heart and breath sounds are heard simultaneously, two
channels are displayed.

CardioSim VII
Digital Heart Sound Simulator
Real Patient Sounds
Wireless Auditorium
Infrared Sound System
With wireless HeartMan Infrared Headphones, as many as
1000 or as few as one will hear clinically realistic sounds with
complete clarity. HeartMan Headphones ft and seal ears just
as your stethoscope. An optional Voice-Over System sends
the instructor's comments to the HeartMan Headphones.
Classroom or Auditorium Instruction & Testing
Lecture Protocol
Eight instructors can prepare and save eight different lectures.
With up to 99 steps, each lecture is a combination of simulated and/
or real sounds, instructor's recorded patient sounds, animations,
slides and images.
Click or Murmur Manipulation &
Frequency Selector
Clicks, murmurs and other sounds can be repositioned to illustrate
the effect of posture change or disease progression. For instance,
the systolic click of mitral valve prolapse can be moved to late
systole to illustrate the effect of squatting. The frequency of any
sound or murmur can be changed with the built-in frequency sound
selector.
Animations and Images
The CardioSim VII is supplied with approximately 70 animations as
shown below. A large number of images (sldes) is also included.
Customers can add their own slides as desired.
PneumoSim Digital Breath Sound Simulator
The optional PneumoSim Digital Breath Sound Simulator operates
in a manner similar to the CardioSim System. Wheezes, crackles,
rubs, etc. can be added to any part of the inspiratory or expiratory
cycle. I-E ratio, position of adventitious sounds, pause, respira-
tion rate are easily controlled or changed to illustrate disease
progression. Various conditions such as asthma, emphysema,
atelectasis, etc. are included.
Cabinet Model CardioSim VII Digital Heart Sound Simulator
After listening to simulated heart sounds, the student can hear several
examples of the same sound from real patients. These real sounds
demonstrate how the sound changes with varying degrees of illness.
For example, the instructor or student can play mild, then moderate,
then severe mitral stenosis from the Real Sounds Library.
.
Veterinary Sounds Option
For Veterinary Medicine, the optional VetSim Digital Veterinary Sound
Simulator offers a special menu of heart sound programs. With
these programs, the instructor or student has the ability to control
both heart and respiration rates independently and at rates higher
than found in humans.

Simulated Sounds
The CardioSim allows instructors and students to listen repetitively
to all or any part of a complex heart sound. While listening,
murmurs, clicks, etc. can be added, removed, amplified and/or
attenuated so the student learns to recognize each sound.

Self Teaching, Testing and Bedside Instruction
SimulScope with SAM, the Student Auscultation Manikin for group instruction
SAM, the Student Auscultation Manikin
Self-teaching, instructor teaching and testing, is provided with SAM's 24 Heart Sounds and Murmurs, 20 Breath
Sounds, 20 Bowel Sounds and 4 carotid bruits all heard at the correct anatomical sites. A carotid pulse is palpated
with all Heart Sounds. Special Heart Sound Testing Modules are available for testing and exam preparation.
SimulScope® Bedside Auscultation System
For bedside teaching, the SimulScope is a small, portable, battery-operated, and wireless infrared transmitter that
saves time at the bedside with minimal patient disturbance. The instructor and students hear sounds simultaneously
with wireless HeartMan Infrared Headphones. The SimulScope can be used for group instruction with SAM as shown
above, at the bedside or in telemedicine applications.

Self Teaching & Testing System
For self-teaching and testing, the UTMB Auscultation Self-Teaching System (STS) guides the student to profciency
in cardiac auscultation with a series of four computer lessons, an auscultation evaluation program and a student text
workbook. Students listen with their own stethoscope and palpate the carotid pulse. Developed and tested at the Uni-
versity of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, STS instructs and tests students at their own pace with minimal instructor
time. During its use at UTMB, a three fold improvement in profciency was noted.
Learning Cardiac Auscultation - Interactive On-Line
CardioSim customers and their students can access the Cardionics web site (wwww.cardionics.com), log-in with
the apppropriate password and learn Cardiac Auscultation using any PC computer that is connected to the Internet.
There are 24 heart sound programs complete with text, a learning program, and three quizzes from novice to advanced
to a quiz developed by the course instructor.
