Chinyere Dike My Nursing Philosophy

To me, nursing is an art made up of many different obligations that are carried out in different phases of health. The nurse assists in promoting health and preventing illness, either between two people or the community. The nurse also aids the sick client in returning to good health. If  achieving the original state of health is not possible, the nurse assists the client in getting to the best stage of health possible for that individual and helps the client adapt to the condition he/she will consider the norm. Nursing is a science that helps with healing the client in many levels, such as spiritual, physical, mental and social. Becoming a registered nurse has many different meanings to me. It will mean that I have been able to make one of my dreams come true. It is i s also a great achievement for my family, because I will be the first person in my immediate family to become a nurse. I’d like to become that nurse thjat makes a difference in the lives of the patients under my care. I’d like to inspire other

to strive towards becoming nurses and understand that the field of nursing is one that commands great respect and honor. I’d like people to realize that a nurse is far more educated than the public gives them credit for. That being a nurse is more than “just c leaning after patients.” It’s about caring for the sick, about educating the public, and about making a difference in someone’s life, even if it means holding a patients hand. And becoming a

registered nurse means that I can proudly say that I do all those things. A year from now, I see myself as a licensed registered nurse working in a hospital. I hope that by then I may have made a positive difference in the lives of my patients. Five years from now, I expect to have my Master’s degree in nursing and be practicing as a nurse practitioner. Ultimately, I’d like to be financially secure enough to be able to take care of my mother and

children and show my gratitude for all the emotional and moral support that they have given me while I was in nursing school.
