Portion Size for Vegetables
1 small backed or sweet potato should equal the size of a computer mouse

1 cup of broccoli should equal the size of a baseball

1 cup of carrots should equal the size of a baseball

1 ear of corn should she the length of a pencil about the 8 inches

½ cup mashed pashed potatoes should equal the size of a light bulb

1 cup raw leafy greens should equal the size of a baseball

Portion Size for Dairy
1and ½ ounces of hard cheese should equal the size of 3 dice

1 cup of yogurt should equal the size of a light bulb

½ cup frozen yogurt should equal the size of a light bulb

½ cup ice cream should equal the size of a light bulb

Portion Size for Meats and Proteins
¼ cup of almonds should equal the size of a golf ball ( about 12 almonds 3ounces of cooked lean beef should equal a deck of cards

½ cup of cooked beans should equal the size of a light bulb

3 ounces of cooked chicken should equal deck of cards

3 ounces of cooked fish should equal a checkbook

2 table spoons of humus should equal size of a golf ball

1 ounce of lunch meat should equal 1 CD

Portion Size for Grains
1 bagel ( about 3-4 in diameter) which should equal 6ounce can of tuna

1 biscuit should equal the size of a hockey puck ( about 2 ounces)

1 slice of bread should equal a cassette tap

1 cup of flakes cereal should equal the size if a baseball

½ cup couscous should equal the size of a light bulb continued on the next page

Portion Size for Grains
1 cup of cooked pasta should equal the size of a baseball

1 cup popcorn should equal the size of baseball

½ cup of cooked rice should equal the size of a light bulb

1 Waffle or pancake should equal the size of a CD

Portion size for fruits
1 cup or medium sized apple should equal a size a baseball 1 banana should equal the size of a pencil (about 8 inches in length)

½ cup blueberries should equal the size of a light bulb

1 ounce of dried fruit like apricots, prunes, pears, ect. Should equal the size of a golf ball

½ cup grapes should equal the size of a light bulb which is about 16 small grapes

¼ cup raisins should be the size of a golf ball

1 cup of strawberries should equal the size of a baseball which is about 12 strawberries

Correct Portion sizes for Fats and Oils
1 table spoon of butter, margarine, or salad dressing should equal the size of a poker chip

1 table spoon of mayonnaise should equal the size of a poker chip

1 table spoon of olives should equal the size of a poker chip or about 5 medium sized olives

Correct Portion Size for Sweets and Treats
1 muffin should equal the size of a hockey puck 2 inch square brownie should equal a package of dental floss

1 slice of cake (3.5 ounces) should equal about a deck of cards

1 ounce piece of chocolate should equal a package of dental floss

2ounce cinnamon roll should equal the size of a hockey puck

1 cookie should equal the size of 2 poker chips

1 cup of pudding should equal the size of a baseball
