Kohler High School has
been named a 2013
Blue Ribbon School
by the U.S. Depart-
ment of Education
for overall aca-
demic excellence
or success in im-
proving their stu-
dent academic
achievement.
Kohler is among only
seven schools in the state to re-
ceive the recognition. Five of those
schools are public schools, while
two are private. Among the five
public schools to receive the
award, Kohler is the only high
school.
The other Blue Ribbon schools
in Wisconsin include Aquinas
Catholic Middle School in La
Crosse; Country Meadows Ele-
mentary School in
Muskego; Grafton El-
ementary School in
Grafton; Our Re-
deemer Lutheran
School in
Wa u w a t o s a ;
Ridgeway Ele-
mentary School in
Ridgeway; and
Suamico Elementary
School in Suamico.
The Blue Ribbon Schools Pro-
gram began in 1982 to recognize
schools where leaders articulate a
vision of excellence and stay in-
volved in day-to-day learning,
have high standards for teachers,
students and administrators, dili-
gently use data to adapt teaching
and learning to support every stu-
dent, and have a culture of mutual
respect and trust. Each school ap-
plied for the honor and provided
evidence of student academic
achievement.
Kohler received the same award
in 1988-89.
State Superintendent Tony
Evers nominated the schools last
fall, and the recipients were chosen
by the U.S. Department of Educa-
tion. Each award winning school
will receive a plaque and flag, and
a principal and teacher from each
will attend a November recogni-
tion ceremony in Washington,
D.C. Kohler will be represented by
science teacher Dana Krejcarek.
Students from all grades in
Kohler gathered in the Kohler Me-
morial Theatre to view a recorded
broadcast from U.S. Secretary of
Education Arne Duncan. Dr. Dun-
can stated that the Blue Ribbon
Schools were an inspiration to the
region and entire nation, and urged
them to “transform your schools
into engines”
Kohler Schools superintendent
Quynh Trueblood spoke to the au-
dience of students and teachers,
followed by School Board Presi-
dent Marlene Yang, teachers Jessie
Good (who offered an emotional
dedication to recently retired
teachers), Jodi Grossen, Rich Ten-
gowski, Lori Hucke, Dana Krej-
carek, and students Andrew Grose,
Anne Benishek, Megan Conklin,
John Tengowski, and Logan
Wright. Director of Student Life
Doug Bocchini gave the closing
message. The students all received
ice cream sandwiches as they ex-
ited the theatre.

Andrew Grose, a senior at
Kohler High School, has been se-
lected as a member of the 2013
Wisconsin School Music Associa-
tion’s (WSMA) State Honors
Music Project. He was chosen as
one of 25 tenors in the Honors
Mixed Choir.
The High School State Honors
Music Project is designed to “pro-
vide musically talented students
with the opportunity to rehearse
and perform with the nation's
finest conductors in a professional
and highly disciplined setting. Stu-
dents are challenged to perform at
their musical best throughout the
rehearsal period, which culminates
with an inspired performance, cel-
ebrating the reach of music educa-
tion statewide.”
Over 1500 students, throughout
the state, auditioned in February
for the opportunity to be part of
one of the State’s ensembles. Last
year, Andrew was selected as a
percussionist for the 2012 State
Honors Band. He will have the rare
experience of being selected for
the State Honors Project as both an
instrumentalist and a vocalist.
In June, the musicians attended
an intensive 4-day camp at UW-
Green Bay where they met with
their conductor and rehearsed as a
newly formed ensemble. Next
month, the choir will reconvene in
Madison to perform a concert at
the Overture Center For the Arts
on October 24 during the Wiscon-
sin State Music Conference. The
concert is open to the public and
tickets are available through
www.overturecenter.com.
Andrew is a vocal student of
Mrs. Lori Hucke and Mr. Michael
Schulz. He has performed in the
KHS Concert Choir, Madrigals,
Show Choir, CLC Honors Choirs,
Solo/Ensemble program and the
St. John the Evangelist choir, and
in all four musical theater produc-
tions while attending KHS. An-
drew is not only an excellent
musician, but an overall strong
leader at Kohler High School, An-
drew is grateful to Mrs. Hucke for
her support and encouragement
throughout the audition process
and for helping him work toward
his musical goals.

Girl Scout Troop
8048 earns
Bronze Award
Submitted by Girl Scout Troop
8048
Last spring, Girl Scout troop
8048 of Kohler earned the Bronze
Award. The Bronze award is the
highest award a Junior Girl Scout
can earn. Our troop researched
possible needs in the community
around us where we could be of
service. We found that need in Ply-
mouth at Rocky Knoll. Rocky
Knoll is a health care center that
offers long term nursing care and
short term rehabilitative care. Once
we took the tour of Rocky Knoll
with the director of entertainment,
Kim Loose, we decided what we
needed and wanted to do. We
wanted to spruce up their life in the
nursing home. So we decided to
make seasonal and holiday center-
pieces for tables in the dining
rooms and other places in the cen-
ter. We also did a hands-on craft
with the residents as part of our
project.
In order to plan for the project
we organized committees to ad-
dress details, such as creating a
budget for the troop and this proj-
ect(Finance committee), storage
for our decorations at Rocky
Knoll, search for discounts and do-
nations on materials at different
stores as well as gather design
ideas (Shopping and Decoration
committees). We went online to re-
search, email stores, look for dis-
counts, and we called a number of
different stores. The Communica-
tions committee coordinated plans
with Rocky knoll, handled corre-
spondence and media needs and
kept track of what needed to be
done to meet Bronze award re-
quirements. We worked on this
project for about 9 months.
Out troop made a final presen-
tation to the Rocky Knoll Resident
Board of Directors in May 2013
and delivered over 200 center-
pieces! We are so grateful for all
the parent support we have as a
troop. We could not have done this
without them! Special thanks to
these groups who donated time and
products: Festival Foods, Hobby
Lobby, Otter Creek, and The
American Club.
Looking forward to a great year
as Cadette Girl scouts! If you are
interested in joining the troop
email our leaders Shannon Bullard
and Susan Senti at

Annie coming to KHS stage
The trials and triumphs of Little
Orphan Annie will hit the stage at
Kohler Memorial Theatre Novem-
ber 1st through 3rd when Kohler
High students will present the hit
Broadway musical, Annie.
Based on the popular depres-

opened on Broadway in 1977, but
this is the first time the show has
been produced by Kohler High
School. The production features
more than forty student actors
along with a student-led pit orches-
tra and a stage and tech crew run
entirely by students.
Work began in June with audi-
tions and continued throughout the
summer with small group re-
hearsals and set building and paint-
ing. “In terms of the production,
this is probably one of the most
complicated shows we've done,”
says director Peggy Hoffmann.
“The theatre is full of new and ex-
citing pieces of our show and
every day, we seem to add more.”
A new backdrop, designed by
Vicki Friske, dominates the
scenery and racks of original cos-

starlet.

bucks’ household staff to homeless
Hooverville residents, FDR cabi-
net members, and NYC dancers,

vance tickets are $6.00. Ten-packs
of tickets are $50.00. Tickets will
also be available at the box office
thirty minutes before each show
for $8.00. Tickets are good for any
of the three shows.

Third in a three-part series
Meet the newest teachers!
Kohler Public Schools adds staff
Rebecca Morgan, special
education program aide
Hello! My name is Rebecca
Morgan, and I am a new special
education program aide at Kohler
Public Schools. I
grew up in Du-
luth, MN, and
went to college at
the University of
Wisconsin- Eau
Claire where I re-
ceived a Bache-
lor of Science in Biology and Latin
American Studies. After graduat-
ing from college, I moved to
McAllen, Texas to teach 8th grade
science with a program called
Teach For America. Teach For
America seeks to provide all chil-
dren, specifically those growing up
in poverty, access to an excellent
education in an effort to close the
achievement gap between low in-
come students and their
middle/high income peers. I lived
in South Texas for five years dur-
ing which time I taught science at
public schools and was on staff
with Teach For America. I also met
my husband, John Morgan, while
in Texas. John grew up in Cedar-
burg, WI but was working in
Reynosa, Mexico for Kohler Com-
pany. John and I met at our church
in McAllen and were married in
August of 2012. We moved back
to Wisconsin this past August to be
closer to family and now live in
Kohler.
I see education as the door to
opportunity and new possibilities
for children, their families, and
their communities. I deeply desire
for all children to have access to a
high quality education, regardless
of their socio-economic back-
grounds, their individual learning
needs, or their zip codes. I believe
all children are capable of learning
and succeeding academically
when supported and encouraged,
and I’m very excited to be a part of
this process at Kohler Public
Schools. I feel very fortunate to be
a part of a district in which the stu-
dents are so incredibly supported
by their parents, their community
and the Kohler Public Schools
staff.
In addition to education, I’m
also passionate about other social
justice issues and serving within
our communities. My Christian
faith is paramount to me, and fam-
ily is also priority. I love music and
play the violin and guitar and also
sing. I really enjoy hiking and
being out in nature, and I love re-
searching and implementing natu-
ral, healthy recipes and ways of
living. Finally, I really appreciate
the Latino culture and the Spanish
language though I have yet to find
an opportunity to use Spanish in
Kohler!
Curt Coenen, Digital Citizen-
ship/Technology Teacher
I graduated from UW Oshkosh
with a degree in Human Resource
Management. I was an HR Direc-
tor for 10 years
before deciding
to enter the Edu-
cation world. I
obtained my
teaching certifi-
cation from Con-
cordia University.
I live in Plymouth with my
amazing wife and our 4 children,
Tanner, Taylor, Lexi and Jordyn.
I love each and every day in the
classroom. Having the opportunity
to teach our kids about technology
is a wonderful occupation. Our
technology is changing every day,
and keeping our kids involved dig-
itally is my priority. I enjoy bring-
ing real world situations into the
classroom, allowing the students to
think outside of the box.
I am looking forward to not
only teaching the students, but also
working with our staff on improv-
ing our use of technology in the
classroom. I also look forward to
working with the community on
getting our students comfortable
with the surrounding businesses,
solving problems, or collaborating
with them in any way. This allows
our students to see and feel what it
is like in the “real world.”
One of the things that I love
about teaching is the opportunity
to learn new things from my stu-
dents. Our kids today learn by
doing. If you were to observe the
atmosphere in my classroom, you
would see collaboration between
students, continually teaching
themselves about how to do tasks
more efficiently. Watching the stu-
dents succeed makes me feel a
sense of success.
In my spare time, I enjoy
spending time with my family, in
addition to road racing at Road
America. I love the atmosphere
and the challenge of driving the
road coarse. I also enjoy coaching
baseball and basketball in my
community. My favorite book is
written by Dave Ramsey called,
“The Total Money Makeover.”
Ruth Stenz, Family and
Consumer Education teacher
I grew up in East Asia and in
Texas. In 1990 I moved with my
husband to this area. I live in
Cleveland and
have two chil-
dren. My son is
at UW-Madison
and my daugh-
ter attends high
school in Sheboygan.
I completed my degree in Fam-
ily and Consumer Education with
a specialization in Child Develop-
ment at Baylor University in Texas
in 1985. My Master’s Degree is in
Educational Leadership from Sil-
ver Lake College. I have taught at
the elementary, middle school,
high school, and college level.
I believe that education is the
key to helping individuals achieve
their full potentials. Within this
framework, Family and Consumer
Education classes provide an op-
portunity for students to utilize
their academic learning in a hands-
on setting and to develop life skills
for independent living and for fu-
ture work. This year I am looking
forward to learning more about the
Kohler learning community and to
working with middle and high
school students.
Familiar face in a
new position
Lori Neurohr, Elementary/Mid-
dle School Principal
I am delighted to begin my 13th
year at the Kohler School District!
I began my ca-
reer as a second
grade teacher,
taught a 2/3 split
class and most
recently fourth
grade. This is
my second year
as Elementary/Middle School
Principal, a role I am enjoying im-
mensely.
My husband Scott and I moved
to the Sheboygan area in 1996 as
part of a relocation for Scott’s job.
We were both born and raised in
Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. Our
son, Kyle, was in Kindergarten
when we moved here and as soon
as he was in first grade, I went
back to school to obtain my teach-
ing degree at Lakeland College. A
couple years into my teaching ca-
reer at Kohler, I decided to go back
to school for my master’s degree
in Reading and Language Arts
through Cardinal Stritch Univer-
sity. I just completed my course-
work in Teacher Leadership and
Administration through Walden
University.
My educational philosophy as a
leader is to help create a positive
school culture where students and
adults are free to take risks, where
everyone feels respected, parents
feel welcome and the community
is an invested partner in education.
The positive school culture must
focus on a shared vision while em-
bracing the rich traditions of the
past.
The best part of my first year
was any time I could be in a class-
room interacting with teachers and
students. Getting to see our dis-
trict’s teachers shine in their envi-
ronment, building relationships
with students and witnessing those
“aha” moments when students
grasped a new concept highlighted
these interactions.
Spending time with my family
and friends makes me happy. A
good joke, my friend Pat’s laugh,
my cats and their crazy antics and
time with good friends all make
me laugh out loud. My secret tal-
ent most of my students already
know about! I can talk like Elmo,
Kermit the Frog, Cookie Monster
and the Martian from Bugs Bunny.
I am living my life dream,
which is working in a school. I al-
ways wanted to be in education
and I have never regretted that de-
cision! My favorite book is The
Grapes of Wrath, my one bite is a
caprese panini, favorite song is
God Bless the Broken Road by
Rascal Flatts and my favorite band
is the Eagles. I am fascinated by
doing whatever I can to honor my
son Kyle’s life.
I am looking forward to work-
ing with the rest of the administra-
tive team to build a strong learning
community for our students and
staff.
Wisconsin State Patrol warns of
phone scam by someone claiming
to be law enforcement official
Wisconsin State Patrol officials
are warning about a phone scam in
which a caller identifies himself as
a sergeant from the State Patrol
Green Bay office and asks for
money to resolve a car crash in-
volving a relative of the person
called.
The State Patrol has received
information that people on at least
two occasions were called by a
man who identified himself as
“Sergeant Walker of the State Pa-
trol office in Green Bay.” The fake
sergeant asked for $900 to pay for
damages caused by the person’s
child or grandchild in a crash. The
fake sergeant said the money,
which needed to be wired immedi-
ately, would fix the damages so the
other driver would not press
charges.
“The phone message is a scam,
and the State Patrol under no cir-
cumstances would contact anyone
with such a request for money,”
says Major Brian Rahn, director of
the Bureau of Field Operations of
the Wisconsin State Patrol. “If you
receive a scam phone call like this,
please notify the State Patrol
Northeast Region—Fond du Lac
Post at (920) 929-3700.”
The State Patrol has investi-
gated the calls, and the scam likely
originated in Montreal, Canada.
More information about this
type of scam is available online
from the Wisconsin Department of
Agriculture, Trade & Consumer
Protection.

Wisconsin PGA Section
Professional Josue Reyes named
recipient of 2013 PGA Resort
Merchandiser of the Year award
Josue Reyes, merchandise
manager of Blackwolf Run and
Whistling Straits, in Kohler, has
been named the recipient of the
2013 PGA Merchandiser of the
Year Award for Resort Facilities.
Reyes, 32, a native of Puerto
Rico, was elected to PGA of
America membership in 2006.
Since the award was established in
1976 to recognize PGA Profes-
sionals who excelled as busi-
nesspersons and merchandisers in
the promotion of golf, he is the
fifth Wisconsin PGA Professional
to be named a recipient of the
PGA Merchandiser of the Year—
and the second from his facility
(Dirk Willis in 2007).
“We are blessed with a talented
class of national award recipients
who have always represented our
Association at the highest level,”
said PGA of America President
Ted Bishop. “They have been nat-
ural-born leaders and impact-mak-
ers in their respective fields.
Whether it is in the golf shop, on
the lesson tee or in front of com-
munity leaders, we are proud that
this award class serves as the gold
standard in the industry.”
In 2005, Reyes became the
PGA head professional and golf
shop manager at The Ritz-Carlton
Members Golf Club in Sarasota,
Fla. He was instrumental in the
original design and layout of the
shop, as well as in the club becom-
ing the only AAA Five Diamond
Ritz-Carlton Golf Club Resort in
the United States. Reyes joined
the Kohler Co.’s Blackwolf Run
and Whistling Straits in 2008, and
since then, the
courses have respec-
tively hosted both the
2012 U.S. Women’s
Open and 2010 PGA
C h a mp i o n s h i p .
Whistling Straits will
also host the 2015
PGA Champi-
onship—for which
Reyes serves as the
Merchandise and
Media Team Chair—
and the 2020 Ryder Cup.
In his current role, Reyes en-
sures that the retail business at the
facilities lead the industry, in
terms of service levels, aesthetics,
product offerings, guest experi-
ence, recognition and profitability.
He has been named the Wisconsin
Section PGA Merchandiser of the
Year for Resorts in four consecu-
tive years (2010-13); a Golf World
100 Best Golf Shop award recipi-
ent six times (2006, 2009-13); and
an AGM Front Nine Award win-
ner three times (2010-12).
“You have got to have personal
drive,” says Reyes. “I’ve just been
fortunate in landing roles and
being associated with great com-
panies in Kohler and Ritz-Carlton.
You have to have ambition to
reach out and join a team and set
up a road that paves a path for suc-
cess…This is more about recog-
nizing my team. I have a good
business acumen, and I have very
strong people behind me.”
Whistling Straits is known for
its iconic and instantly recogniza-
ble logo. The concept for its cre-
ation was greatly inspired by a
combination of a
piece of furniture
that contained gar-
goyle figures in the
design of its legs; an
image of the
whistling wind; and
a special twinkle in
the eye of the logo’s
character, which
pays homage to a
God of Wind.
“We try to think
outside the box from service and
assortment,” explains Reyes. “It’s
the branding and being associated
with the Kohler Company. People
constantly tell us that it’s the best
logo out there. People recognize
us. I think the branding of ours,
and the fact that we have hosted
major championships, sets up a
bucket list experience.”
Reyes’ family moved to Or-
lando from Puerto Rico when he
was 8 years old. In 2004, he grad-
uated from the University of Cen-
tral Florida with a degree in
Hospitality Management. Reyes
and his wife, Melissa, reside in
Sheboygan, Wis., and are the par-
ents of a son, Roberto, and a
daughter, Adriana.
The 2013 PGA Merchandisers
of the Year will be honored Jan.
17, 2014, at the Hammock Beach
Resort in Palm Coast, Fla. In ad-
dition to Reyes, these PGA mem-
bers will be honored that evening:
Richard Kline of Lenhartsville,
Pa. – Public Facilities, and Scott
Paris of Westfield, N.J. – Private
Facilities.

Board President’s Report
Marlene attended the Educator Effectiveness
seminar in Madison on August 6, 2013 with
Lori Neurohr and Quynh Trueblood.
Educator Effectiveness is based on teacher
practices and student outcome. The Char-
lotte Danielson model is used as the evalua-
tion tool.
Marlene will now be attending the Legislative
Breakfasts held in Plymouth once a month.
Superintendent’s Report
The summer months have been an active
time for preparing for the return of children
and educators fresh with energy for friend-
ship, learning, and achieving. I am pleased
to report the following:
Our very own and impressive Principal Lori
Neurohr represented Kohler Schools, educa-
tion, and educators as a guest panelist at the
WASB Educator Effectiveness Conference.
Lori’s command of the importance of educa-
tor growth was expert, honest, fortifying and
encouraging to the audience of board mem-
bers and administrators. Thank you, Lori, for
what you do and who you are.
The fundraising effort for the Ebben Field
Project Phase II continues to be strong. We
are currently at over 210K and especially
thankful to the soccer club, booster club,
football club, Kohler School Foundation,
Kohler School Friends, Sargento, and KPAL.
Look for public signage to share progress
and more in the Villager in the near future.
The concession stand remodel offers an
inviting ticket booth, food service stand, and
refreshed restrooms.
We are very excited to welcome the new staff
on board the Bomber plane. Mentors have
made each beginning spirited and support-
ive. Look to the Sept 1 issue of the Villager
for bios as introductions to the community.
The elementary wing structure is near com-
pletion, both preserving the original and his-
torical building and extending the life of a
magical earning space for children.
Technology upgrades are complete and we
are ready for an improved technology en-
abled learning environment.
The security system on access and exit
points in the building is nearing completion.
Professional Development will focus on three
priorities: Common Core State Standards,
Educator Effectiveness, and a Response to
Intervention system of multilevel supports.
Our teacher leaders are strong and ready. The
daily and monthly structures have been de-
signed to fully support progress and suc-
cess.

KOHLER PUBLIC SCHOOLS NEWSLETTER
This science enrichment pro-
gram allows students to participate
in a community service project
and also encourages them to use
some of their biology and chem-
istry skills.
The students will be actively
involved in collecting, analyzing,
and interpreting biology and
chemistry data related to the water
quality of the Sheboygan River.
The Kohler group is responsible
for testing the river near Black
Wolf Run Golf Course. Some of
the tests include dissolved oxygen,
biological oxygen demand, pH,
temperature, total phosphates, ni-
trates, turbidity, total solids, fecal
coliform, and macroinvertebrates.
The water test results are sent to
the Great Lakes Area of Concern
Program, the UW-Sheboygan
Water Quality Extension, and to
the Department of Natural Re-
sources. Other Sheboygan County
schools test different parts of the
river, and all of the results are
shared at a forum in the spring.
Along with presenting the data,
students suggest explanations for
their findings, and work together
to explore possible action plans
that might have a positive impact
on the area’s land conservation
and the environment. Students at-
tend sessions where water quality
experts provide needed informa-
tion. Students involved in the pro-
gram are currently taking honors
physics, advanced biology, or
chemistry. Ms. Krejcarek is the
science teacher leading this group.

Trick-or-Treat: The Kohler Police Depart-

for everyone. To help that cause, Officer
Gross will be holding a Safe Trick-or-Treat
Awareness Program in the school for the
younger students. He will be passing out
trick-or-treat bags from the Police Depart-
ment. During Trick-or-Treating, which will be
on Oct. 31
st
from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., officers
will hand out the glow necklaces to any child
that wants one. The glow necklaces will make
the children more visible as they are enjoying
the night out. Choosing a costume where the
kids are able to maintain good vision is also a
very good idea. Following Trick or Treating
will be a bonfire at 7:15 pm organized by the
Village Recreation Department west of Ebben
Field.
From Public Works
Superintendent
Bruce Neerhof
LEAF COLLECTION: Leaf collection will
start on October 7th and continue until De-
cember 2nd. Leaves should be raked into the
street along the curb in a three-foot (3’) wide
row. No grass clippings, sticks, or other gar-
den debris is allowed. The Public Works De-
partment follows a schedule for leaf
collection. The collection starts on the south
end of the Village where the trees are more
mature and produce more leaves. The route
continues to the west and north sections of the
Village. During the last part of October and
early part of November we may only be able
to get through the Village once a week and
cannot make exceptions since this will affect
the collection schedule.
