WOW! What a great way to start our new year. Thanks to everyone who attended our September luncheon meeting. Our speaker was Jim Kendzel, ASPE Executive Director speaking to us about ASPE’s past, present and future. Jim was also present to congratulate McClure Engineering on being added to ASPE’s Employer Honor Roll. If you were unable to attend, please read Paul’s report to find out some of the ideas ASPE is doing to support the chapters. October is Convention and Engineered Plumbing Exposition month. I hope all of you that are attending took advantage of the discounts that were available and have registered and made your reservations, they are filling up fast. I hope to see many of you in Charlotte, NC. Your delegates are busy preparing for the business meetings, by-law amendment discussions and the election of ASPE Society’s next Board of Director’s. Please be thinking about attending, there is a lot of information on-line at http://aspe.org/, be sure to check on the first time attendees discounts. I’m sure that Mike Gianino will have some information later on in this newsletter. If you have any questions about the convention, please contact me or any of the board members, Make your plans to attend November’s PSC Tabletop, which will be at the Ameristar in St. Charles on Thursday November 1st. More information regarding classes and show times will be forth coming. This year we will not be having our luncheon meeting to start the event like last year. As I mentioned in my last report, I know elections aren’t till May, but it’s not too early to think about running for a Board position, please contact a current board member about getting your name on the list. We welcome your participation! At our September meeting, I mentioned that we have 2 full sets (volumes 1, 2, 3 & 4) of the latest ASPE Plumbing Design Handbooks. If anyone is interested in one of these sets, please contact me or any of the Board Members. Our next chapter meeting is October 2nd at the Cerro Copper manufacturing plant. Please see Paul’s report for more information. I Hope to see you all then.

ASPE was organized to serve as a medium in the solution of professional problems pertaining to plumbing engineering as it affects the profession, community and the general public. Advance the general scientific interests of the plumbing engineering profession and to inculcate the desire of scientific achievement in the field among the members of the Association. Bring about greater cooperation and understanding between the members of the association and plumbing officials, contractors, journeymen and the general public

VP Technical Report

If you were unable to attend the September meeting you really missed something special. Jim Kendzel (ASPE Executive Director and CEO) was on hand to present Keith Cooper (McClure Engineering) with the Honor Roll of Employers award “In recognition of continued and outstanding support of its employees’ continuing participation in the programs and activities of the American Society of Plumbing Engineers.” If you are fortunate enough to be working for an employer that supports and encourages your involvement in ASPE, I would highly recommend that you check with ASPE to see if your employer meets the criteria to receive this award. Jim also spoke to us about some of ASPE Nationals recent accomplishments as well as some things they have in the works for the future. The following is a brief summery of these items. • Signed MOU (Memo of Understanding) with CIPH (Canadian Institute of Plumbing and Heating, NSF International and a consensus standard for Rainwater Catchment Systems with ARCSA (American Rainwater Catchment Systems Association) ASPE has been approved by ANSI to be coming an accredited standards developer. ASPE has joined with ASSE to form a joint plumbing dictionary. Joined with TMB Publishing to produce the Plumbing Engineer magazine. This increases the readership to over 25,000 subscribers. Signed agreement with IAPMO for “Green Plumbing Design” certification. ASPE is developing a research protocol to evaluate the impact of faucet design (both manual and electronic) on biofilm development. Joined with UCLA Extension in producing online courses in Plumbing design.

VP Legislative Report
By: Randy A. Kleinheider, CPD, LEED®AP
IAPMO has recently released the second edition of the Green Plumbing and Mechanical Code Supplement. This is a result of two tears of work by the IAPMO’s Green Technical Committee which makes the GPMCS the most comprehensive green construction code in the country for plumbing and mechanical systems. Also, IAPMO has issued a call for proposals toward the development of the 2015 editions of the Uniform Plumbing Code (UPC) and Uniform Mechanical Code (UMC). Background on the code development process, full proposal form and instructions can be found at: http://www.iapmo.org/Pages/CodeDevelopement.aspx. Any questions regarding submitting proposals for the Uniform Plumbing Code (UPC) should contact Matt Sigler, UPC liaison, at (909) 230-5535 or [email protected]. Questions regarding submitting proposals for the Uniform Mechanical Code (UMC) should contact Hugo Aguilar, UMC liaison, at (909) 472-4111, or [email protected]. World Standards Week, 2012 is going to be held October 9 - 12 in Washington, DC. This annual event, which is hosted by ANSI (American National Standards Institute) is where all of the folks involved with standards and conformity issues get together and discuss and collaborate about this and where we’re headed in that regard. Other than that, all is quiet on the home front. Till next time . . .

By Mike Todd I HAVE GREAT NEWS, if you have never been to an ASPE Convention and Exposition, there is a program this year to encourage those who have never been, to attend! Straight from National: First-Timer Program Details A first timer is defined as a member or nonmember who has never attended an ASPE Convention & Exposition and is not attending as a delegate. Each first timer recruited by a chapter will receive 50% off the registration fee. The discount rate does not apply to Guest Registration.
