New Dorp‟s Virtual Enterprise Management and Insurance team is working hard to prepare for the Regional Business Plan Competition on December 13. Auditing is currently assisting Accounting with our firm‟s Income Statement and Cash Flow Analysis. The Marketing Department has completed our Target Market and SWOT Analysis. Human Resources has finished the Company Description, the Employee Manual, and our Key Personnel List. The Research and Development Department is currently putting the finishing touches on the Industry Analysis while Sales is finishing our Projected Income Statement. The VEMI presentation team is also hard at work. They are currently ironing out the details of their presentation such as presenting order and sartorial color scheme. By Roy Dieudonne

In September, the New Dorp High School Virtual Enterprise Management & Insurance team entered the Advertising Futures Competition. The main idea was to create the best advertisement of a certain theme with the help of real advertising agencies. This year‟s theme was to show and persuade underage teens against posting pictures of themselves in provocative ways on social networking websites such as Facebook and Myspace. The Virtual Enterprise firm at New Dorp created a frightening ad of a teenager in darkness with the caption,“ You could be writing your own horror story.” The meaning was to basically demonstrate to teenage girls what you‟re doing when you go on your favorite social networking website.

The firm traveled to meet up with the advertising agency Global Hue and brainstormed ideas with the agency to determine an advertisement that the target market would relate to. Our Advertising Futures team created the entire advertisement; from creating the slogan, to actually taking a picture for the background; speeches to present to the judges, and executing the final product. At the competition itself, teams went to a podium and presented their advertisement; how the picture and slogan related to the meaning of the brief, the brainstorm process, and how they arrived at the final consensus. Although our team did not place, this competition gave our firm considerable experience in advertising.

The 2010 California tradefair will take place on December 3rd. This year, the VE Management team is proud to once again be part of the California trade fair. Our team is looking foward to this opportunity to promoting and marketing VEMI in Bakersfield, California. Representing VEMI will be Director of Operations, Nicholas Veneir. “This is a very exciting experience for me as well as the whole team. We are really looking forward to it!” said Nick.

The California Trade Fair itself is a great experience, and the fact that the trip to California will be partially subsidized makes it a perfect scenario to explore a different location. This will be a good way to see what it is like to be on a business trip. We are very confident that Nick will lead us to success as he has come through in similar situations.

Q. What exactly does an insurance broker do? A. “We sell insurance, but we don‟t work for any single insurance company.” Q. How did you come to work in the insurance industry? A.“ I started to work in this business 37 years ago. A friend of mine introduced me into this business and gave me an opportunity.”
Mr. Fred Limeri

For the month of October, our Celebrity of the Month is Mr. Fred Limeri, an insurance broker and the owner of the insurance firm, The Limeri Insurance Agency. Mr. Limeri has been in the insurance business for 37 years and has gained a considerable amount of experience and a strong reputation in this difficult field. We asked Mr. Limeri a few questions to find out more about the insurance business, and to try to improve upon ours.

Q. How does our current economic situation affect your practice? A. “The current economic situation mostly affects the building industry. People are not buying houses as much, therefore, all the housing objects, like furniture, are also in crisis.” Q. What are some difficulties that you went through in your experience in the insurance industry? A.“The difficulties always come at the beginning. The „Building Process‟ takes time to build a high reputation. The longer you‟re in the business, the more money you should be making.” Q. What do you think about our program? A.“The Virtual Enterptise program is great. I have been involved in this program for 5 years and I see how students get more and more advanced every year.” Q. Is there any advice that you would like to give VEMI? A.“Stay dedicated to your program. Listen to instructions and help other people to succeed. And pass your knowledge to others so they can get help to become successful.
