Open Door Policy – if not controlled!
Vikas was again in state of shock when his boss shared a critical market update with him, information which his subordinate bypassed him and gave directly to Vikas’s boss. It was result of open door policy of company. Open door in business is a communication policy to bridge the gap between the senior management and the staff members, to encourage openness and transparency. Policy is beneficial for senior management to identify the key people working in interest of organization goals and in accordance sketch the growth map for them. It has great advantages & is instrumental to manage an organization if properly controlled. Some Misuses of uncontrolled policy– 1) Employees generally use this to be in limelight before the management. They detour important information from their supervisors and put it at right time before the senior management to be in their good books. Just like it happened in case of Vikas. 2) People with tendency to avoid decision making & play safe, route the every small information to senior management to take decision Poor Vikas was de-motivated and lost trust in his team. The end result was decline in performance. Share your inputs & experiences on the topic and suggest measures to implement it in best way.
