With innovations in content rendering, Openwave Mobile Browser sets a new standard for feature phone browsers
Features
Enhanced Browsing
With Openwave Mobile Browser, manufacturers can enable a broad range of data experiences, improving subscriber interaction with mobilespecific and mainstream web content, as well as online applications like search and messaging. Support for OMA Browsing 2.2 standards, including ECMAScript MP, XHTML MP and WCSS 1.1, ensures that operators can continue delivering rich mobile portals and content subscription services. Browser innovations like powerful new table layout algorithms and progressive rendering enable access to HTML content and improve the responsiveness of online services. Openwave Mobile Browser also supports cHTML, the protocol used for viewing i-mode content in Japan.
Dynamic Content Interaction
Moving forward, Openwave intends to leverage Script, Scalable Vector Graphics and offline browsing technology to offer a lightweight, easy-to-use environment for the development of powerful markup applications that function in on- and off-line contexts.
Cross-Application Integration
Openwave Mobile Browser supports a more usable and intuitive experience. As part of Openwave Phone Suite, it is tightly integrated with other core data applications such as Openwave Mobile Messaging Client. Features like “Send URL” and “Send Snapshot,” automatically invoke the messaging client so users can easily send a URL or screen shot. The browser can be launched from other applications, letting users move quickly between tasks; (e.g. accessing the browser help menu during a Java™ game).
Content Management
ECMAScript Mobile Profile (Script) is the latest addition to Openwave Mobile Browser in 2005. Script enables a more responsive web experience and significantly improves the usability of mobile data services while making mobile phones more accessible to a broad spectrum of content developers. Script support reduces the number of network requests the browser needs to make— as application logic is enabled on the Openwave browser—thereby improving user interaction with online content.
Openwave Mobile Browser delivers and manages a broad spectrum of content, so that operators can reap the full benefits of innovative new services. The browser supports GIF, animated GIF, JPEG, PNG, BMP and WBMP content formats as well as common audio and video streaming formats. It also supports Java downloads via MIDP-OTA 2.0, in addition to content downloads via OMA Download 1.0.

To ensure that revenue streams from these advanced content services are protected, the browser provides full support for OMA DRM 1.0. Openwave DRM Engine is pre-integrated with the browser so manufacturers can implement rights management capabilities across the phone.
