NARBERTH BOY ELECTED L. M.
oAPTAIN
Gillillan Will Lead Basketball
Robert Gilfillan, who has 'been play·
in/{ a hrilliant game at forward the
past season for Coach Forsthurg, of the
baskethall It'am, wos I'll'ded l'aptain of
the 1924·25 team at an election held
ia Mr. Forstburg's ollice Monday af-
tl'rno<.n and was re·eJedl'd to leadl'r·
ship on Wl'dnesday at a special elec·
tion after his first election had heen
questioned.
Gilfillan's eledion came os a sur·
prist', as ye students well informl'd on
the .1ffiliatioll" of the team members
expected a tie in the \'oting for two
mpn. Four men, instead of two, how·
ever, went up for the captaincy, and
that gll\'e Gilfillan his l'hance. The
\'ote was ;1-2-2 llnd 1 in favor of the
flashy forward. According to. the
"dope" hoord in the corridors, Gil·
fillan's \'ote would hll \'1' been four had
it been nl?cessary.
Because of the fact that the new
l'aptain had not hepn 1'1e('tl'd by a rna·
jority of those \'oting, the supporters
of one of the othl'r candidates entered
protl'st of the election. There no
sdlOol rule making it for II
"aptain to secure a majority vote; a
mere plurality is all that is necessary.
This was the stand taken hy Gilfil-
Inn's friends, who were desirous of
avoiding another \'ote ,because of a
tie \'ote, whil'h threatl'nl'd.
ArgumNlts pro and con continued for
some tim1'. Finally the discussion was
ended when Paul Scull, of &la-Cyn·
one of the other three eandidntes
for the eaptainl'y, secured the floor and
wlth, lrew from the race, casting his
two votes in favor of Gilfillan.
Eight lettermen voted in the elec·
tion. They were: Scull, Bevan, Gilfil·
lan, Hutchin1'on, SaVill, Morris, Faulk,
and Fpote.

son lu'St Friday night, wilen it lost _ .... __C1 __• __...... __• __• __..... __D__D__• __...... __,.:-

And quite justly so. For Narberth's citizens patronize
the Pennsylvania Railroad as does probably no other
Main Line community. But there is little possibility of
our losing our exceptional transportation facilities, for
patronage begets service.
Right down in theheart of our little Home Town, as near
to your home as· the railroad station, there is a business
community. A group of business enterprises each of
which was created .for your service.' Each of which
according to its function has ·on sale for your sustenance, '
your pleasure, your wear, your comfort, and your neces-
sity, merchandise or service.
With the exception of but ta few major items like ready
