PERSONALITY DISORDERS Defination : An enduring pattern of inner experience and behavior that deviates marked from the expectations of the individual culture, is pervasive & inflexible, has an onset at adolescence or early adulthood is stable over time and leads to distress or impairement. They are classified under three broad heads:

I Odd & Eccentric Behavior
Paranoid Personality Disorders Schizoid P.D. Schizotypal P.D. Histrionic P.D. Narcissistic P.D. Anti Social P.D. Boderline P.D. Avoidant P.D. Dependant P.D. Obsessive-Compulsive P.D.

II Dramatic, Emotional and Erratic Behavior

Paranoid P.D. – These people are constant suspicious the defining characteristic is that most of the mistrust is unfounded. It involves an impairment in the cognitive functioning. They tend to be hypothetical, stubom and controlling leading to hostile to disputes which might escalate to law suits also.

Schizotypal P.D– It manifests odd speech, behavior thinking or perception. They may show
magical thinking, claiming that they can predict the future, read the thought etc. Schizoid P.D.- They usually living in some kind of solitary confinement. Defining characteristic is that severely restricted range of emotions associated with social detachment. Totally self absorbed personality engaging in solitary activity. They don’t have any relationship with others. They think that all others want to harm them.

Anti-Social Personality DisorderCharacteristic

1. A history of illegal or socially disapproved activity beginning before age of 15 and continuing in to adulthood. 2. Failure to show constancy and responsibility in work, relationship parenthood or financial obligation. 3. Irritability and aggriveness.

4. Reckless and impulsive behavior. 5. Disregard for truth. How to differentiate from normal criminals? 1. Their misdeeds are not just impulsive but also unmotivated. 2. They show shallow emotions. 3. Poor judgment and failure to learn from experience.
