Phone Software Update FAQ Introduction 1. What phone software am I updating? => This update allows you to upgrade your device with the newest firmware. 2. What are the benefits of upgrading my phone? => There are new functionalities and several bug fixes on this version of firmware. 3. What are the requirements for updating? => Fully charged device, USB cable and PC with Windows Vista/Window XP/Windows 2000. Instructions
are provided in the upgrade area

4. What should I do to prepare my phone for a software update? => Backup your phone data and then charge your device and your computer (if you have a laptop). Then
install Samsung USB Modem Driver.

5. Which Microsoft Windows versions are supported? => Windows Vista/ Windows XP/ Windows 2000. 6. Can I update software on my phone with a Mac running OSX? => We are sorry, but currently only Windows Vista/ Windows XP/ Windows 2000 are supported. 7. Do I have to pay for this software update? => No. This service is free for all Samsung OMNIA users. 8. Will I lose my user data if I update my phone software via PC? => Yes. Make sure you backup your data before you begin upgrading. (However, data in My Storage will
stay intact even after the update.)

9. How I can be sure that all my Digital Right Management (DRM) protected content will work after updating my phone software? => Yes. Your DRM contents will most likely work after update. 10. Is the update different if I take my phone to Samsung Service Center? => It is the same update 11. Will the warranty be void if I update my phone software using Phone Software Updater? => As long as you follow the instructions, your warranty will be still covered Updating 12. How long does the update take? => It should take under 10 minutes.

13. How do I know the version of my phone? => Version menu on Settings (Start -> Settings -> System-> Version). 14. Do I really have to make a back-up of all my data? => Yes. This update clears all your data (with exception to data in My storage and Storage card). 15. What cable do I need to connect to my PC? => USB cable which is included retail box. 16. Which USB mode do I use on my device? => ActiveSync. 17. Can I update using Bluetooth wireless technology instead of a USB cable? => No. This update supports only USB cable. 18. Can I make calls during an update? => No. 19. My phone screen goes blank during the update, is this normal? => No. Your phone must show download status. However, the device will spend a short time resetting
after the installation has finished.

20. ActiveSync says my phone has disconnected, is this normal? => After device reset, ActiveSync will be disconnected. 21. My firewall says there is a "Land Attack" during the PC update. Is this normal? => It is abnormal. Trouble Shooting 22. My Phone battery is low; can I still update the software? => No. You must update the software when your phone is fully charged. 23. What if my phone runs out of battery during download or installation? => If your phone works properly, try updating the software again after charging. If your phone still doesn’t
work, please visit one of our service centers

24. My friend was able to update his/her software but I couldn't. What's wrong? => Please visit one of our service centers. 25. I get an error message. What should I do? => Please visit one of our service centers. 26. I get a message, "Update completed," but there is no visible activity. What should I do? => Please reset your device. If problems persist, please contact one of our service centers. 27. I cannot connect to ActiveSync after using updating via PC. =>

1) Try again after removing the USB cable and rebooting your device. 2) Reboot your PC. If you cannot connect ActiveSync after rebooting, re-install your ActiveSync.

28. Why has my device security code changed after updating? => This update clears all your data, included your changed security code. The default code will now be in
place again.

29. My phone stopped working during an update, what should I do? => Please visit one of our service centers. 30. Are there other good sources of support and regarding updates? => Please visit our service website for more information.
