Dramatic Monologue
A dramatic monologue is a combination of the words dramatic and monologue (obviously). The "dramatic" says that it could be acted out, and is a form of drama, while the "monologue" defines it as a speech that one person makes, either to them self or to another. A dramatic monologue is written to reveal both the situation at hand and the character herself.
ALL'S WELL THAT ENDS WELL A monologue from the play by William Shakespeare PAROLLES: It is not politic in the commonwealth of nature to preserve virginity. Loss of virginity is rational increase, and there was never virgin got till virginity was first lost. That you were made of is metal to make virgins. Virginity by being once lost may be ten times found; by being ever kept is ever lost. 'Tis too cold a companion. Away with't! 'Tis against the rule of nature. To speak on the part of virginity is to accuse your mothers, which is most infallible disobedience. He that hangs himself is a virgin; virginity murders itself, and should be buried in highways out of all sanctified limit, as a desperate offendress against nature. Virginity breeds mites, much like a cheese, consumes itself to the very paring, and so dies with feeding his own stomach. Besides, virginity is peevish, proud, idle, made of self-love, which is the most inhibited sin in the canon. Keep it not; you cannot choose but lose by't. Out with't! Within ten year it will make itself ten, which is a goodly increase, and the principal itself not much the worse. Away with't! 'Tis a commodity will lose the gloss with lying: the longer kept, the less worth. Off with't while 'tis vendible; answer the time of request. Virginity, like an old courtier, wears her cap out of fashion, richly suited, but unsuitable, just like the brooch and the toothpick, which wear not now. Your date is better in your pie and your porridge than in your cheek; and your virginity, your old virginity, is like one of our French withered pears: it looks ill, it eats drily. Marry, 'tis a withered pear; it was formerly better; marry, yet 'tis a withered pear! Will you anything with it?

Beep___Beep___ Beep___Beep___Beep___Beep___Beep___Beep. I can hear my heart beating. The wires on my chest prick at my skin. Your breath escapes you unnaturally. I feel your hand in mine, Holding on for dear life. As my eyes darken, my throat lumps up, And I feel the need to speak my last. Dearest Love, My Reason to Smile, You must forgive me. I was not able to keep my promise, And now, my time is almost up. You chose to love me, but you did not know, That I would not stay faithful; For now, as the beeping slows, My time with you is passing. Beep_____Beep_____Beep_____Beep_____ The warning sounds so loud. My soul escapes through my breath, And my hand releases its grip. My strength leaves as the curtains close, Because the sun no longer shines on me. Your hair tickles my face, As you hold me one last time Oh thou that warms my winter, You must forgive me. Leaving you is not my wish, Nor is watching your tears fall. I know that you cry for me, But Love, there is no need. Goodbye may seem forever and farewell is like the end, But in my heart is the memory, and there you ll always be.

4

Beep_______Beep_______. The clock ticks down backwards. The scrubs start coming off, As those that tried so hard give up. You begin to plead with everyone who ll listen, For some escape from this nightmare. Your voice rings clearly through the ward; Your chest heaves as your panic peaks. Sweetheart, please calm yourself, For there is no reason to fret. There are more important matters to discuss, Like my lies to you, my One Beloved. I told you I would never leave you, And now you will soon be alone. I said I would always be yours, And now you will soon be alone. Beep______________. Your eyes glance at the monitor, And the pain in them is clearly visible. Your panic has calmed; acceptance crosses your face. Your hand finds its way to my face, And your voice softly washes over me. You say, Hush now my love; it is your time to sleep. Sleep. Darkness. Silence. The walls close in and all is still. In the abyss, however; One voice breaks through the dark One beautiful, sweet voice That eases all other pains. As my spirit begins to fail, Your voice, with assurance says, I love you.

Free Verse
Free Verse is a form of Poetry composed of either rhymed or unrhymed lines that have no set fixed metrical pattern.

Song of Myself
by: Walt Whitman I celebrate myself, and sing myself, And what I assume you shall assume, For every atom belonging to me as good belongs to you. I loafe and invite my soul, I lean and loafe at my ease observing a spear of summer grass. My tongue, every atom of my blood, form'd from this soil, this air, Born here of parents born here from parents the same, and their parents the same, I, now thirty-seven years old in perfect health begin, Hoping to cease not till death. Creeds and schools in abeyance, Retiring back a while sufficed at what they are, but never forgotten, I harbor for good or bad, I permit to speak at every hazard, Nature without check with original energy.

What is Love? To love is a right. To love is a joy. To love is a privilege. The stars love the moon. They have the right. The girl loves the boy. She enjoys pure joy. The husband loves the wife, Exemplifying said privilege. Love touches everything and everyone. Those that disagree are wrong. A lonely spirit is lonely only when it believes it is. Otherwise, love binds the essence of everything together. Speech, sight, sound, taste, and smell fall short. Love cannot be described in this manner. Love is friendship on fire. Love is the friendship of two flames. Love is the holy matrimony of two demons. Love is the demonic duel between two angels. Love is having no expectations. Love is expecting no less than perfect. Love is indescribable. Love is easily defined. L is for long lasting. O is for outstanding. V is for visible. E is for energy. Love is long lasting, outstanding, Visible energy. Physically, emotionally, and mentally, Love connects the strands of humanity. Perfection can be reached, it isn t just a dream. Love is the key to unlock your true potential. So love like there s no tomorrow, And live life thinking each day is your last. For, love will make your world spin around, Or maybe just flip it upside down.

There Will Come A Day
The human race is careless. All gratitude is lost. We seek the help of no one and reject the help that is ours by birthright. What we don t understand is this: Our lives are at stake. Currently we live in a prosperous time. The world is seemingly at peace. But how long can this last when our outlook is such: A baby girl is considered worthless. A fire burns the green away. A tree is nothing but a pile of papers, a peasant no more than taken up space. These are the cruel perspectives we refuse to lose. The worst of it though is yet to follow. For there will come a day when we forget the reason for our being. There will come a day in which our minds will see nothing but ourselves. Thus, disarray and chaos will run rampant through the world. Humanity will suffer the consequences of its own ignorance and sin. Instead of asking for forgiveness, we place the blame on the Divine. There will come a day when the world looks up to the heavens and screams, Leave us alone! On that day, He will look down and whisper, As you wish

Haiku
Haiku Poetry Type is a Japanese poem composed of three unrhymed lines of five, seven, and five syllables. Haiku poetry originated in the sixteenth century and reflects on some aspect of nature and creates images. None is travelling by Basho (1644-1694)
None is travelling Here along this way but I, This autumn evening. The first day of the year: thoughts come - and there is loneliness; the autumn dusk is here.

Haiku Tercet Stanza by Basho Ah, summer grasses! All that remains Of the warriors dreams.

9

Like the lonely tree, A preview of tomorrow, I stand quite alone.

Despite its grayed eyes, The beast holds within itself Pure ferocity.

Forever and more Was the promise of the moon, Yet the tides grew still.

Mangled and broken, The dry leaf struggles to die, But death plays cruel jokes.

With jaded feeling, The birds and bees tried again, But to no avail.

Nursery Rhyme
The term nursery rhyme is used for "traditional" songs for young children in Britain and many other countries, but usage only dates from the 19th century and in North America the older Mother Goose Rhymes is still often used.

Hush, little baby, don't say a word, Mama's gonna buy you a mockingbird. If that mockingbird don't sing, Mama's gonna buy you a diamond ring. If that diamond ring turns brass, Mama's gonna buy you a looking glass. If that looking glass gets broke, Mama's gonna buy you a billy goat. If that billy goat won't pull, Mama's gonna buy you a cart and bull. If that cart and bull turn over, Mama's gonna buy you a dog named Rover. If that dog named Rover won't bark. Mama's gonna buy you a horse and cart. If that horse and cart fall down, You'll still be the sweetest little baby in town. So hush little baby don't you cry, 'Cause Daddy loves you and so do I.

Love-struck Lovebird
Love-struck lovebird don t be shy, Spread your wings and go and fly. Tell the one you love so much, That it s your heart that they have touched. Be prepared for anything, Don t assume that you are king. For sometimes even kings are wrong, So don t let your beak grow too long. If you find yourself grow mute, Just try using pretty or cute Hopefully she minds it not, And away from you she does not trot. But if appealing she finds you, Then your life s as good as new. So go forth lovebird and seize your chance, Put that lady-bird in a trance.

Remember the Name by Fort Minor A parody Remember the Shame This is ten percent guilt, twenty percent will, Fifteen percent having too much time to kill. Five percent pleasure, fifty percent lame, And a hundred percent reason to remember the shame. Mike, he doesn t need a reason to fight, He just wants to be seen, whether it s in the dark or the light. He feels so unlike everything he knows so well, In spite of the fact that some people still make him swell. But forget em. He knows the code, It s not about the honesty, it s all about dishonesty and makin some noise, Makin a story, making sure his pants stay up, That means when they get pulled down, he s pickin em up. Let s go. Who in the world is he anyway? He always seems to talk much. Always concerned with status, but still driving a Dodge truck. Fumbled through missed chances he was given despite the fact, That many misjudge him because he makes a livin from talkin smack. Put it together himself, now the picture connects, Never found out the right way, to gain some respect He s only focused on one thing, that one thing he can t reach, To not sweat like a bald pig, when giving a broad speech. This is twenty percent will, eighty percent jeer, Be a hundred percent clear, cause Ryu is ill. Who would have thought he d be the one to set the west in flames? And I heard him wreckin with them arson charges over his name. Came back, dropped 40 in the championship game, I m like dang man, why does no one know your name? I thought him the truth, so I even gave him a guess spot, But then they caught him shooting roids in the back lot. This is ten percent guilt, twenty percent will, Fifteen percent having too much time to kill. Five percent pleasure, fifty percent lame, And a hundred percent reason to remember the shame.

They call him Ryu the sick, and he s spittin fire and Mike, Got him out the oven, he s fresh, found him with fresh wounds in his flesh. A warm chocolate chip cookie, yeah he s straight off the block, The type children wanna eat, and is tasty around the clock. Eight years in the makin , patiently waitin to go, Now the line to the restroom has caused him to grow old. He s got a partner in crime, who s also on hold, You won t believe the kind of stories about this kid that are told. Stop, he s not your everyday on the block, He knows how to work with wood, he s got Let s say, a license to chop People think he s a common renegade, And so they keep askin him, was it, given to him Or did he specially get it made. No, he s livin proof, got him rockin the booth, He ll drive you crazy faster than a train that s gone loose. Him and his crew are known around as one of the worst, Dedicated to what they do, to make sure not to come first. Forget Mike, nobody really knows how or why he never works hard, It seems like he s never got time, Because he, works to fit in and he came from behind, And I ve seen him at work, there s not a light in his mind. It s like a design is written in his head every time, Before he even whispers a word, or speaks out of line. And those other kids that he runs with, those fools that he signed, Ridiculous, without even trying, how do they do it? This is ten percent guilt, twenty percent will, Fifteen percent having too much time to kill. Five percent pleasure, fifty percent lame, And a hundred percent reason to remember the shame.

Heartless by Kanye West A Parody Darkness In the night I hear em talk, the coldest story ever told, Somewhere far, far away, he drove along, Into the pure black darkness. Why would you chase the darkness? Why would you chase the darkness? How could you be so, dumb as the lemon slice when you squeeze yo, Just remember the way you re walking away though, You need to watch the way you re walking away though. I mean after all the things that you didn t do, I mean after all the things you did do. Hey yo, you regret the things that you told me, Hey yo, I did those things but then you showed me Cause you walk around like you don t know me, But you don t want me to know that you notice me. You got no friends, and no homies, And in the end you ll be so lonely. In the night I hear em talk, the coldest story ever told, Somewhere far, far away, he drove along, Into the pure black darkness. Why would you chase the darkness? Why would you chase the darkness?

Pastoral
A Pastoral Poetry Type is a poem that depicts rural life in a peaceful, idealized way for example of shepherds or country life.

The Passionate Shepherd to His Love by Christopher Marlowe Come live with me and be my love, And we will all the pleasures prove That valleys, groves, hills, and fields, Woods or steepy mountain yields. And we will sit upon the rocks, Seeing the shepherds feed their flocks, By shallow rivers to whose falls Melodious birds sing madrigals. And I will make thee beds of roses And a thousand fragrant posies, A cap of flowers, and a kirtle Embroidered all with leaves of myrtle; A gown made of the finest wool Which from our pretty lambs we pull; Fair lined slippers for the cold, With buckles of th purest gold; A belt of straw and ivy buds, With coral clasps and amber studs: And if these pleasures may thee move, Come live with me and be my love. The shepherds' swains shall dance and sing For thy delight each May morning: If these delights thy mind may move, Then live with me and be my love.

³Find me my Love´
As the wind softly caresses the field, Your face is veiled by a moonlit shield. The stalks of barely, wheat, and maize, Place me, your shadow, in a daze. Find your way to me my love, As the birdseed finds the dove. Like the mountains find the sky, Find me my love, and be mine. Through wind and water, stalk and stone, Bring to me, your heart alone. The willows weep, and the river flows, But they do so, always so alone. Find your way to me my love, As the birdseed finds the dove. Like the morning finds the shine, Find me my love, and be mine. The orchard with fruit-bearing trees, Moves slightly with the gentle breeze. Once you and I start moving likewise, We ll settle down and watch the sunrise. Find your way to me my love, As the birdseed finds the dove. Like the devotee finds the shrine, Find me my love, and be mine.

18

Untitled The horizon finally lets go of the sun, As it is your heart that I have thus won. The cold of darkness gives way to heat, As the cycle of day is nearly complete. My life is spent under willow trees, While you are deathly afraid of bees. My land is my life, my love, and my world, While you are the definition of city girl. This matters not, for I love you dearly, And I see priorities now very clearly. The sun shines brightly on the maize, And I hope this love of yours is not just a phase. If not, we ll be together forever, We ll never be without one another. As the birds fly south in pure unison, We shall move to the music of our own musician.

Quatrain
A Quatrain Poetry Type or literary term is a stanza or poem of four lines. Lines 2 and 4 must rhyme. Lines 1 and 3 may or may not rhyme. Rhyming lines should have a similar number of syllables.

The Tyger by William Blake Tyger Tyger. burning bright, In the forests of the night; What immortal hand or eye. Could frame thy fearful symmetry? In what distant deeps or skies. Burnt the fire of thine eyes? On what wings dare he aspire? What the hand, dare seize the fire? And what shoulder, & what art, Could twist the sinews of thy heart? And when thy heart began to beat. What dread hand? & what dread feet? What the hammer? what the chain, In what furnace was thy brain? What the anvil? what dread grasp. Dare its deadly terrors clasp? When the stars threw down their spears And watered heaven with their tears: Did he smile His work to see? Did he who made the lamb make thee? Tyger Tyger burning bright, In the forests of the night: What immortal hand or eye, Dare frame thy fearful symmetry?

20

Quatrain 1 Love the life you have to live, Live the life you have to love, Always take less than you give, And save some food for the doves.

Quatrain 2 The tree teaches us a valuable lesson: To never take anything for granted. It is gratitude that we forget to mention, And also the tree that we never planted.

Quatrain 3 The river s flow tells us much, Like the disposition of the water. Thus, we should run when the river is such: Strong enough to wash away the walker

Sonnet
English (or Shakespearean) sonnets are lyric poems that are 14 lines long falling into three coordinate quatrains and a concluding couplet. Italian (or Petrarchan) sonnets are divided into two quatrains and a six-line sestet.

O thou my lovely boy by William Shakespeare O thou, my lovely boy, who in thy power Dost hold Time's fickle glass his fickle hour; Who hast by waning grown, and therein show'st Thy lovers withering, as thy sweet self grow'st. If Nature, sovereign mistress over wrack, As thou goest onwards, still will pluck thee back, She keeps thee to this purpose, that her skill May Time disgrace, and wretched minutes kill. Yet fear her, O thou minion of her pleasure! She may detain, but not still keep her treasure. Her audit, though delayed, answered must be, And her quietus is to render thee.

22

Kindled Reassurance
Cheap imitation of true love is treason, Yet it is that that befalls upon you. Neither heaven nor Earth speak of reason, As gray skies replace the discarded blue. Dreaded are the dreary days to follow, As injustice upon thyself is done. No ray of hope can dispel the sorrow; In the battle of life, evil has won. Then, before the world entirely falls, Reassuring hands steady the shaking. A voice stops the closing in of the walls, And a support stops the room from caving. My eyes find yours to wash the pain away; You smile, at last, lighting a new day.

23

Advice to an Unborn Child Attention destined sufferer of life, Your journey into your future is bleak. For doomed is this world that will bring you strife, And never will you find the love you seek. Hatred and anger are your future friends. Sorrow and despair will now haunt you so. Party then pain is the general trend, Alas, it is joy you will never know. So heed this advice child: do no t be born. Struggle backwards in time until you end. Between the world and thy will you be torn, So a request of return you should send. Good luck oh future fairer of life s ways, Follow this advice or suffer decay.

To live is to break by Ueda Miyoji
To live is to break One's heart for the sake of love; A couple of doves, Beaks touching on their way, Are stepping out in the sun.

The Ocean
The ocean is blue, And its depth is beyond me. It s virtue is true. Never does it speak a lie, And it will not deceive you.

More Fun Poetry!
Cinquains Mother Short, stout Talking, teasing, tickling Cute creature Golden Muse. Curtains Drooping, dreary Waiting, wishing, worrying False figures Hopeless hearts. Couplets As the moon reveals herself, I tend to conceal myself. My music is a window, Through which I see myself grow. Your eyes calm the mighty storm, Yet their fierce gaze leaves me torn. Deceit comes in many forms, But the worst is never borne. To love is life s greatest gift, And yet, more apart we drift.

Limericks A long time ago in town, Lived a man who would not frown. Of this people heard, And thought it absurd, That the man was not a clown. One day in the marketplace, A merchant was slapped in the face. When asked as to why, He was sure to reply, That he was punished for having no grace.

Diamente Poem Black Dark; scary Lurking, creeping, stalking Death, sorrow: Life, happiness Lifting, Calling, Singing Light; reassuring White
