Poligamy should be accepted

Polygamy is a form of marriage in which a person has more than one partner. The
practice of polygamy includes polyandry (marriage to several men) and polygyny
(plural wives). (Microsoft Student, 2009). Polygamy is a hot topic today. For
hundreds of years the Catholic Church took a stand against polygamy. Since then,
the cultures linked to this religion have repudiated the practice of polygamy as if
it were a sin, but the Bible never says that. In fact we have found that some
biblical characters like Esau had several wives, grandson of Abraham, who had
two women (Genesis 26:34), and Jacob that had 4 women (Genesis 30:3).
Eventually, monogamy expanded by European and American countries with
European expansion. However, polygamy, despite being unacceptable to some
cultures, it presents advantages over the quality of life, liberty, and demographic
factors.
Polygamy is a form of marriage that offers more variety in relationships with
individuals within it. Therefore, it is not surprising to think that a polygamous
marriage tends to last longer, to meet more people who benefit from polygamy. It
polygamous Western countries like the United States, show as many divorces.
Figures show that 53% of first marriages end in divorce and 41% of marriages,
the spouses of both sexes admitted being unfaithful (Infidelity Facts, 2006). This
is a clear sign that monogamy is very unstable, while divorces in polygamous
marriages are rare although exact figures are available.
Polygamy is accepted in many cultures and they host polygamy as a traditional
practice necessary for their wellbeing, because it has been practiced for hundreds
of years, as is the Islamic culture. In this culture, children grow up with lessons
an teachings that prepare them for their polygamous marriage and to meet
cultural tradition like their ancestors. The polygamous cultures marriages are
equally important that the cultures monogamous marriage, it would be incorrect
to speak of that has more impact on the formation of people committed to their
marriage.
Some arguments against polygamy are based on the restriction of the freedom of
not be able to decide whether or not he or she wants a polygamous marriage. This
may be true in Muslim cultures where women have a disadvantage over the man
in work environments and human rights, so the woman depends on a man to
support themselves and their children. However, this is only part of the
population polygamous, since in most cases, men and women have more equality
and respect their rights. In such cases, the woman or man is independent and has

the freedom to choose whether to marry or remain in a polygamous culture or not
(Barbuto, 2006).
There is also talk that in polygamous countries is more difficult to acquire a
divorce. This is not true because in most Western countries and America,
polygamy is illegal, and has many restrictions. Is why individuals polygamous
marriage up living "illegally" so that not being married is easier to end a
relationship that is more informal (Arms, 2011). Islámamicas Even in cultures
where polygamy is totally legal, divorces are possible but require legal
proceedings.
Polygamy is also beneficial to compensate for the lack of men and women in
countries where this relationship is not balanced. For example, in Middle Eastern
countries such as Iran, there is more number of women because men have a
higher mortality rate. This has caused many women lack a sexual partner and an
individual of the opposite sex that offers financial support or other (Kennedy,
2009). Many women would be unable to support a family on their own, telling
the gender inequality. That is why polygamy was born naturally to balance this
lack of men and ensure the formation of family including a father and a
mother. Also polygamy, as it is linked as an efficient way of creating stable
families, favors the population growth, as all women can contribute to population
growth, even though the number of men and women are not equal. This is
essential for any country's economy growing, as it ensures labor, unemployment
and social insurance (Tracy, 2001)
In conclusion, many factors where polygamy is a benefit for individuals
participating in it, as well as for communities and cultures in general, because it
is benevolent in terms of quality of life, freedom of choice and demographic
factors. I think the culture is biased by cultural factors that prevent preset
acceptance of other forms of marriage than for those who have already been
trained and conditioned to live.
