The Well Known Ports are assigned by the ,-+- and on most systems can
only be used by system >or root? processes or by programs e@ecuted by
privileged users.
Ports are used in the T%P .R/%A2$1 to name the ends o logical
connections which carry long term conversations. /or the purpose o
providing services to unBnown callers, a service contact port is
deined. This list speciies the port used by the server process as
its contact port. The contact port is sometimes called the
<wellCBnown port<.
To the e@tent possible, these same port assignments are used with the
)DP .R/%A4D1.
