why i do it
I am more than just a designer. Pablo Picasso once said, “Every act of creation is first an act of destruction.” I think about every aspect of a product and design for it: from raw material procurement, to manufacturing, and to its end-of-life (even if the product is meant to be used once, like a medical device or an exhibition display). I want to show that thoughtful and conscientious design can be just as (if not more) beautiful, functional, and desirable. I strive be a game changer in the world one thoughtful step at a time.

when to hire me*

When you need a creative who can innovate at any stage. When you want to launch a new product. When you’re repositioning or restarting a product in decline. When you have an idea for a product, experience, or service. When you’re opening a retail or food service place. When you need an exhibition designed. When you want a design to grab people’s attention. When you need an eye-catching booth for a trade show. *a few of many examples

My mission is to ignite my clients’ visions and ideas, and transform them into dynamic products and services that excite and change the way people think. I partner with organizations to solve meaningful problems by launching innovative solutions using human-centered design. My work is meticulously scrutinized to ensure my design and fabrication methods are most minimally harmful to our surroundings and environment. I create positive impact through design.

a call to action
CLIENT: NATIONAL FISH & WILDLIFE FOUNDATION PROJECT: PROMOTIONAL KIOSK ROLE: DESIGN LEAD, PROJECT MANAGER

The National Fish & Wildlife Foundation, one of the United States’ largest non-profit organizations for wildlife and environmental conservation, needed interactive kiosks that would be displayed nationwide in companies ranging from startups to Fortune 500s. Each kiosk would display information on that company’s accomplishments as participants in NFWF’s programs to do their parts to protect our planet. Manufactured in the United States with local and sustainable materials, the kiosk’s design initiative pointed to the grassroots philosophy for our environment: the smallest changes could add up to significant and positive impact for our ecosystems, which current rested on a delicate balance between prosperity and destruction.

CLIENT: STANFORD UNIVERSITY PROJECT: EXHIBITION DESIGN FOR VARIOUS COLLECTIONS ROLE: DESIGN LEAD, INSTALLATION

The Cantor Arts Center at Stanford University reflected the university founders’ love for collecting objects of art and cultural interest. Originally, the museum was conceieved to display these collections. Since then, Cantor expanded and broadened its exhbitions to different areas of art and history. The design objective was to create visuals that wove each exhibition’s narrative into a stimulating, informative, and immersive experience for everyone.

tribute to history
CLIENT: ADIDAS PROJECT: ORNAMENTAL DESIGN-BUILD CENTERPIECE ROLE: DESIGN LEAD, FABRICATOR

Adidas North America, headquartered in Portland, Oregon, wanted to pay homage to one of the city’s historic signs for their 2012 Holiday Party: the “Portland Oregon” or “Made in Oregon” sign atop the White Stag building. Installed in 1940, the sign was designated a City of Portland Historic Landmark in 1977. We fabricated a 13’ x 10’ wood replica of it for the center piece. Following tradition, the stag’s nose glowed red like the real sign did during the Christmas holidays.

CLIENT: RITUAL COFFEE ROASTERS PROJECT: COFFEE MAKER ROLE: DESIGN LEAD, PROJECT MANAGER, CAD RENDERING

Not only were Ritual Coffee Roasters leaders in brewing coffee exquisitely, they were leaders in procuring their coffee beans ethically and sustainably. Ritual was looking for the next innovative and afforadble coffee maker targeted towards environmentally-minded individuals. The design initiative stripped down a coffee maker to its bare minimum, and leveraged gravity, water vapor, and atmospheric pressure to brew and separate the coffee from its grounds. The only source of power needed was a small heating plate. This elegant design saved materials from being over procured and reduced the use of electricity, while maintaining a sleek form to leave out in the kitchen.

shades of a different sort
CLIENT: APPLE COMPUTERS PROJECT: BUILDING SUNSHADES ROLE: DESIGN LEAD, PROJECT MANAGER

Apple wanted more environmental and sustainable building sunshades for its new headquarters instead of the industry standard float glass panels. Float glass was incredibly energy intensive and expensive due to the materials and labor needed to assemble them. The project consisted of researching alternatives and performing complete Life Cycle Analyses to ensure minimal environmental impact and waste. The solution: Fiber Reinforced Polymer (RFP). The RFP panels, when coupled with steel, balsa wood, and unsaturated polyester resins reduced environmental impacts (energy resources, greenhouse gas emissions, and carcinogens) by over 60%, total weight by 44%, and total cost by 53% over float glass.

balanced being
CLIENT: --PROJECT: DOUGHNUT DUMBBELL WEIGHTS

For my senior design and manufacturing project, I chose to objectify my philosophies towards living a healthy lifestyle (exercising regularly and eating sensibly). Eating sensibly for me included the unhealthy and junk foods when eaten in moderation - especially doughnuts. I pushed against accepted societal beliefs and juxtaposed two seemingly opposite entities to prove that unhealthy food and exercise could coexist harmoniously. This project portrays the peace I have found to stop the struggle between “delicious” food versus a better physique. I could positively and literally have my cake and eat it, too.
