PrEMISE - A Mobile Healthcare Platform, providing 24/7 emergency response services

Established in 1956, the nonprofit MedicAlert Foundation delivers the most dependable, responsive, intelligent, and trusted emergency identification and medical information network possible. MedicAlert ensures that emergency responders and hospital staff get your up-to-date medical information, the moment they need it, to make informed decisions about your treatment and care. MedicAlert has engaged Endeavour to design and architect a mobile platform that can relay critical information to healthcare providers during emergencies thereby ensuring higher likelihood of optimal medical care for their members.

Case Study – PreMISE PrEMISE provides healthcare emergency personnel the ability to access all the health related data on file like a MedicAlert member’s medical conditions, allergies, medications, and dosages so that the member receives faster and safer treatment. Through the application the emergency responders can also access medically relevant legal documents, insurance information, and members’ photograph. Further, in order to ensure that the individual’s information is kept confidential and that the solution adheres to HIPPA guidelines, the solution has advanced notifications built in to inform family members as and when a member’s health information is looked up. The solution also facilitates connecting with Emergency Response Providers by a phone call and sharing medical documents over fax. Challenges to be addressed? To connect and provide the right kind of safe medical aid anywhere and at any time of crisis was the biggest challenge. Along with that some of the other challenges included:  Understanding the regulatory environment and the privacy and security requirements in the U.S. This meant compliance with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) and Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health (HITECH). Being associated to emergency healthcare, it was absolutely necessary to ensure performance and continuous availability since interruptions might impact patient care. Integration of the mobile solution and services with the complex applications and data sources of MedicAlert including experience with Health Level Seven (HL7)-interfacing challenges. The solution should address the connectivity challenges and provide access to the most current and updated information of the MedicAlert member Supporting and displaying various document types (i.e. doc, pdf, png, jpg) on a smaller screen



  

Endeavour further assisted MedicAlert with the following deliverables:  Requirements and Detailed Design /Architecture  Development on iPhone/ iPad and Android Platforms  System Testing  UI Assets

The Solution Mobile enabling the emergency healthcare service by building a unified solution through which

 Emergency responders can enter MedicAlert member’s ID and the facility and the reason for accessing data of the member  The emergency responder can add /edit/delete facility and reason for accessing data  Emergency responder can verify member first to notify they have the right person before drilling further in the medical information screen.  User details such as photo, name, age, gender, MedicAlert ID, last updated date, and the number of emergency events are shown in Member’s Healthcare Record. It also contains a health record of the user.  While accessing details of the member, users can also see the contact information like address and any alternate address the member may have. It also shows the contact information of physicians if any.  The emergency responder, once logged into the member’s detail, can view the Hospital and Health Insurance details of the member, if any.  The user can view lists of all documents that are scanned in the member's account.  A responder can select multiple documents from the document list and fax them to the required fax destination  Once the user sends the fax they can also receive fax confirmation detail. The details contain the fax status of "submitted" and fax date and time, as well as details of the fax destination.

Our Value Add  Security: Implemented advanced session management to ensure secure access to member’s health related documents.  Regulatory Compliances: Designed the solution in full compliance with HIPPA, HITECH and HL7 related healthcare standards  Mobile Device Support: Supported across devices with different form factors including iPhone, iPad, Android Smartphones and Android Tablets.
