Procedure

1. Tank T1 (hot water) and T2 (cold water) are filled with water to their maximum level
by pass valve (BVH), discharge valve (HV) and suction valve (PH) are ensured to be
fully open. Their overflow drain pipes D is defined. After the tank T1 was full, the
water is reheated until the temperature reached to 70 0C. This will take about 20
minute.
2. The flow rate USGPM, FC (flow rate Cold) is set up at 10 and the FH (flow rate Hot)
at 13. This flow rate is set up by reading the panel-mounted digital flow indicator.
When the flow rate is maintained, the DP selector is change to DP (Shell). After that,
the temperature in tank1 is ensured to exceed 70 0C.
3. When the DP (Shell) reading is static, reading from temperature cold in (TCI),
temperature cold out (TCO), temperature hot in (THI) and temperature hot out (THO)
are taken from Resistance Temperature Detector. Besides that, the pressure reading for
hot and cold water is also taken.
4. When all the reading has been taken, the operation is switched off by turning the
button to OFF. The experiment is repeated for the DP (Tube) by using the same flow
rate and follows the same methods above.
5. The same methods as above are repeated for the next two experiment with the different
flow rate with FC at 10 and FH at 15, FC at 10 and FH 17 respectively. Finally, by
using the data taken, the heat transfer from the exchanger is calculated.
