PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT PLAN As future teacher, there are lot of things that I think that I am going to do in school later. So in order to predict my future, I created a professional development plan for 10 years after my first posting. Planning for my future is one of the good things for me because it can help me to aim better for the matters that I need to focus in my school days later. It is just as a lesson plan where we need to plan it carefully if we want to have an effective lesson. This professional development plan will provide me a better future that I always dream about. My school life as a teacher will be more organised through the plan.

My first phase is my first year of posting to third year (2016-2019). During these three years, I plan three major tasks that I need to complete. First thing I want to make my position verified by the Educational Service Commission (SPP)

as quick as I can. This is because

verification from the Educational Service Commission is very important if I want to be a fullfledged government servant. To achieve this there are many things that I need to do such as build a good reputation in school. This means that I need be a responsible teacher that does all the work that I should do. I also need to have a good relationship with the school authority. This does not mean that I need to follow the authority blindly but I need to prove to them that I am a capable teacher through my works. During this first phase also I need to build rapport with school community like the authority, teachers, staffs and students. In almost every significant domain of life, attractive people get better outcomes than unattractive people (Hamermesh & Biddle, 1994; Zebrowitz, 1999). Through this statement I need to enhance my appearance during my first time meeting with all these people in order to make a good impression.

I also want to be friendly with the parents through the Parents Teacher

Association in order to deal with them easily later for their children matter. I also need to enhance myself in teaching strategies and method to manage the students by learning it from the experienced teachers in the school. Fuller (1969) described three major phases in teacher growth: concern towards self, concern towards task and concern towards impact. As for a new teacher like me, I mostly concern towards myself where I need to worry about many things such as class control and own ability. So I really need to learn a lot in order to erase all these uncertainty.

My second phase is my fourth year to fifth year of teaching (2020-2021). During this phase I plan to join a tuition centre. As I am still in the concern for self-stage, I do concern about my survival in term of financial. So I need to do something that can help me earn side income by using my expertise. There is another reason why I chose a tuition centre because mostly the tuition centre consists of skilful teachers in many areas. So I can use this opportunity to learn many things from them. I also want to apply for my master in educational for teaching English as second language. This is because I want to deepen my understanding towards teaching English. I also want to be more proficient in English because as a teacher I should be a proficiently English user. I also want to further studies in general pedagogical thinking to help my students improve their English. According to Fillmore & Snow, 2000; Zwiers, 2008, general pedagogical thinking has highlighted the importance of links between language and content learning even for students being educated through their first language (L1).

Third phase for my teaching years will be during the sixth year to seventh year (20222023). During this time I will focus more on becoming the head of English committee. I want to make my English club more active than before. I want to create an English loving culture where my students try to use English during certain times, create more activities like language games activity, English theatre and action song session. This will make my students more familiar with English and thus will help to erase their perception towards English as an alien language. During this phase I also want to apply for my rugby coaching license because nowadays we need to have license or certificate on something if we want to go to a higher level of something. I choose rugby because rugby is my primary sport since my schooldays. I also want to be active in Bulan Sabit Merah Malaysia as my extra-curricular activity because I already have basic in this field. So it is the time for me to give all my knowledge to students. Beside school activity and position, I would like to join the state question maker committee (lembaga peperiksaan Negeri). This is because I want to learn how to produce good questions for my students in school. Apart from producing good questions, I also will learn how to give good answer to those questions. So I can create a technique or method for my students that can help them face the examination easily.

The last phase of my plan is during my eighth year to tenth year (2024-2026). During this phase I plan to do major changes in my life which are to apply for ‘Guru Cemerlang’ and to become a motivator. What is ‘Guru Cemerlang’? It is a way to provide opportunities for teachers to really excel and shine in the subject taught or in a field of specialization without the need to convert to administrative positions. There are lot of advantages by gaining this position for example promotion for the next grade will be higher, don’t have to be involved in administration of school and able to share the knowledge between Guru Cemerlang. I also want to be a good motivator. This is because I want to motivate my students by using my life and other people as their guidance. I believe that through good motivation, students can enhance their life to a new level. As a teacher later, I want to make my best in teaching in order to become a great teacher.
