Viking Ranges
Viking 36 inch convection range. I prefer gas but we don't have that option, so I went with the electric convection
model. I chose Viking because of their reputation. I am not a fan of this range. The 36 inch range has four burners
with the smallest burners in the front. The right side burners can be used as a single cooking zone, but the heat isn't
consistent. All of the burners adjust the temperature throughout cooking which I suppose is a good feature unless
you're trying to boil water. The oven is noisy even without the convection. The oven is self cleaning but it takes 8
hours to go through the cycle!
Make sure your installer is familiar with Viking. Ours was not. He was there all day trying to get the range installed,
and we had to have a technician back immediately to make adjustments. The range is nothing special for the money.
It isn't cheap or cheap looking, but I have had much less expensive ranges that I liked better than this one.
I find this range very frustrating to work with. The 36 inch, ceramic top convection model ran about $5000. It's self
cleaning, assuming you have the 8 hours needed. The middle rack in the oven glides beautifully which avoids spilling of
quiches, souffles, etc. The features I find the least appealing are the ceramic top and the tiny burners in the front. The
ceramic is impossible to keep clean and the small burners don't heat the pan evenly. Also, the knobs don't lock into
place, so you constantly have to check the settings. The burners self regulate, so the burner will reduce the heat
throughout cooking. This becomes very frustrating if you are trying to boil water. Gas is probably more consistent.
The oven seems small. The racks do not cook evenly, so you can't use all three simultaneously. I can't tell any
difference between convection and non-convection cooking except convection is louder.

Had Viking stove top for 3 years without any problems. One day spilled about 3 tablespoons of water over a flame
adjuster knob which somehow shorted the wiring inside. Then it seems in the entire Northwest suburbs of Chicago,
there is only ONE Viking authorized repair service. So you guessed it. they charge astronomical prices. Went to a
highly peer-rated appliance repair service that was a lot less costly. They stated Viking is slow as snails in giving up
replacement parts unless you work through their authorized repair shops. Sure enough, it's been almost 2 months
without parts shipped. Don't buy Viking if living near Chicago.
Bob of Seymour, IN on March 14, 2016
We purchased a Viking double oven 10 years ago and it has never worked properly. Will burn backside of pizza, pie,
any dish that isn't rotated by hand, so much for the convection. The cost to repair is quite expensive, especially if you
do not live in a metropolitan area, due to lack of "Viking qualified" repairmen.

After reading some of the reviews, I guess I've gotten off easy with my fully Viking stocked kitchen, but nevertheless
I feel compelled to add to the pile of one star ratings. Granted my Viking appliances are 10 years old, but having had
GE and KitchenAid appliances, which last 20 years, my expectations are that if Viking is going to charge THAT much
money for an oven, or a dishwasher, then it'll last even longer than the other brands. We had a year's worth of
trouble with our oven burning everything before it finally exploded (literally). After 2 months Viking finally sent the right
part. Oh, but they told the repairman to bend the piece to make it fit; even the repair man was incredulous.
Now we have been waiting 4 weeks for a part for our dishwasher. I called the day it was due in (today), and nope,
not ready. It'll be another 2-3 weeks. It's back ordered. Who is making these parts? Elves that work only by the light
of the moon. Viking: Figure this out. Figure out how to make better appliances (Many, many of your competitors
have already figured this out. It's not rocket science). And then, figure out how to get your parts faster. Your
turnaround time takes me back to the 1860's. It's absurd. Thankfully we didn't buy these appliances, the previous
owners did. But I cannot wait to replace them. My plan is to take all 4 Viking appliances to Burning Man and set them
on fire.
Sue of Whitehouse Station, NJ on March 8, 2016
8 years ago we did a total renovation to our kitchen and chose to put in a 48" Viking range/hood. This undoubtedly
was our most expensive purchase. In the last 7 years I have had nothing but problems. 2 of the burners never light
unless done with a match. I am now on my 3rd thermostat for the broiler, I have been waiting 3 MONTHS for this
part. Again. The oven thermostat has been replaced 2 times. Of course these repairs have cost us $500-$1500. This
has been the most disappointing purchase I have ever made. Terrible product and terrible customer service. Don't DO
IT. Buy something that backs up its product for more than a year.
Edy of Clifton, VA on March 4, 2016
I have a full Viking Professional kitchen: 48" gas range, 48" refrigerator, 24" undercounter bev fridge, full height wine
cellar, dishwasher, and a warming drawer. The range and the beverage fridge did not work from the day they were
installed four and a half years ago. We asked for a new bev fridge and were told it was a production issue and a
replacement part would be sent when the issue was fixed. So we had a non-working, brand new beverage
refrigerator under our counter for at least three months before the replacement part was sent.
Since then it requires repair, on average, every three to six months. And since the warranty is no longer valid that
costs $500.00 each time we repair it. It's always the same issue, which is the display board needs to be replaced.
There was a time that I refused to have it repaired because of the cost and the number of times we've had to have it
repaired and the fact that Viking would not cover the repair because the warranty was past.
Our range, from the day it was installed, didn't work properly. I found this out the first time we went to use it while
hosting an engagement party for my sister in law. The caterer came to me to tell me the oven wouldn't stay on.
After replacing part after part on the oven, over many months, we finally were given a new range over a year later.
This is at least five times that someone had to come out to our house to try to repair the oven, and went on from
July 2011 until August of 2012 when we finally received a replacement range.
A month after the new range was installed we began having issues with it. I have invoices for six more service calls
for repairs on the range alone. Most recently, we had to have the hinges replaced on the larger ovens door, which
was in September of 2015. And just three months later the new hinges need to be replaced again. That's $380.00 a
pop. The range will still shut down if you are using too many components. If you're using the oven, the burners and
the griddle it will overheat and shut down.
Our wine cellar has had to be repaired on quite a few occasions. It has even had to have the condenser replaced in
more than one zone. We've had to have our ice dispenser repaired on at least two occasions because of poor design.
It causes the dispenser to grind down plastic from the bucket as well as in the dispenser. The result is plastic in your
drink and a dispenser that wears down. We have had to have just about every single Viking Professional appliance
repaired at one time or another over the past four and a half years and most of them several times.
Granted, we do have a couple of appliances that we haven't had repaired, but that's just because the malfunctions
are so trivial I don't have the energy to deal with those since there are usually larger issues with other appliances that
need to be dealt with first. For example, the warming drawer grates don't actually fit. They are too large to lay flat.
And when it heats up the drawer scrapes somewhere on the interior. The door in the dishwasher that holds the
detergent in is broken as well as the door on the butter compartment in our full size refrigerator. I've also had to
replace drawers in the fridge because they cracked or plastic popped out in the crisper. This is completely
unacceptable. When you purchase high end appliances, spending tens of thousands of dollars you do not expect that
they will require repairs several times a year, nor that you'll have to spend thousands more for said repairs.
I have well over 20 invoices for repairs. This doesn't even go into the time we've had to go without an appliance while
waiting for parts to come in, nor the times wrong parts arrived or broke immediately after being installed. It seems a
complete company overhaul would be necessary to correct all of Viking Range's problems, and unfortunately I cannot
afford to hold out hope for that to happen, neither financially nor intellectually.

Purchased a 30 inch Viking gas range that was delivered Dec 9, 2015. The oven temperature was anywhere from 25
to 100 different from the dial reading--had to buy an oven thermometer to realize that it was the oven and not me.
Service guy came out a month later and "recalibrated" it. Temperature was still 25 degrees different than the dial
reading. Technician returned two weeks later and replaced the thermostat and "internal computer". Still 25 degrees
discrepancy from the dial reading. Viking rep told me that I just needed to get "used" to the oven. A $6000 range
should not perform this way. I was very persistent with rep calling and THEY WILL BE REFUNDING THE PURCHASE
PRICE AND REMOVING THE OVEN. I am thrilled!

We moved into our brand new home in July of 2015, and we purchased all Viking. Stove panel went out twice in first
month, refrigerator and now microwave panel. Very dissatisfied with length of time we waited for the parts over a
month and we are in warranty default.
Gallit of New York. NY on Jan. 14, 2016
We bought a Viking oven three years ago and it's been one problem after another. The temperature controls are
wonky, there was a gas leak (gas company had to come and turn it off) and the fan is much louder than other
comparable high-end models. All in all, the oven is a huge disappointment and I would not recommend anyone buying
it.
Robert of Chicago, IL on Jan. 10, 2016
Bought a four burner stove top oven and microwave/oven. Microwave: Spring in handle broke, touch screen face
faded, Viking logo smeared all over the front of microwave. The microwave completely died. Stove top: Impossible to
get even flame, difficult to cook on low flame without annoying loud clicking sound. Spend your money elsewhere!

Purchased 2 Viking ovens in 2012, stopped work properly in about 10 months. Called Viking for service, found out
Viking only warranty is for 6 months. Had a repair person come out, he said the parts would be around $500.00 for
each main control boards to fix the problem. Tried using only the convection functions to do most of baking for
several years. I did this only because I did not want to spend an additional $1,000. on these damn ovens. Now, the
convection is out, called back repair, when everything is completely fixed on both ovens, we are looking at
$1,600.00. I think Viking is truly an awful brand, they do not stand behind their products and part are expensive.
Buyer beware!
Joaquin of Mexico, Other on Jan. 8, 2016
I never used the oven and the first time I used it blow. I call the service center in Mexico and they send a supposed
technician to fix it. He charges me 2000 USD. The next thing is that he leave the oven working with no interior light
and the door with a lot of scratches. Then the oven worked for 20 min and it blows again and in the blow it make a
short circuit in the microwave oven so now I have a completely destroyed oven and no microwave. I call the service
and they say that they don't know me and the technician is dead. Honestly I will never buy a Viking in my whole life is a cheap product.

My husband and I purchased a BRAND NEW Viking VDOF730 professional series double wall ovens with the french
door. It was installed on December 21st 2015. It worked beautifully for 10 days. The bottom oven stopped working
on December 31st 2015. Turning the bottom broiler or convection on and the oven still doesn't get over 150F. When
I finally got through to Viking customer service this morning after a 30 minute wait on hold, they authorized appliance
service to come out and 'fix it' on Wednesday, the day after we can no longer return the product. Let us hope that it
keeps working afterwards.
Updated on 03/10/2016: I first posted in the beginning of January 2016 regarding brand new french door stainless
steel double wall ovens. It took several days for a serviceman to come out and verify that indeed the bottom ovens
are not working. He ordered the replacement relay board and bottom element that day. Then the service department
did not know when the replacement parts would ship. After almost a month of daily telephone calls to the customer
service and to Pacific Sales, Viking finally agreed to replace the whole unit.
The second unit was going to be sent to another city as there was an error on geography. Another two weeks pass.
The replacement was damaged -- enamel cracked and scuffed off, oven webbing ripped, spiral machine marks on the
racks and off-center doors. They were notified and we were told another new oven would be sent out. This time, 11
different signatures were on the inspection paperwork and it was installed. Then the installer damaged the doors. A
different service is finally sent out -- without the french doors, or bottom hinges as the bottom oven is not closing
properly. But it is okay to cook with -- so I am told.
Within 2 days of it being installed, the ovens are running hot. You set it for 325 and it goes to 450. I am greatly
annoyed. Yesterday, we are not notified that the service guy would be here to replace the inside of the french doors
and the bottom oven hinges -- on a brand new oven. It was a fluke that he pulled up as I was coming home. He
installed everything but still doesn't like the replacement hinges. I am giving it another try for a month; otherwise,
goodbye Viking ovens. The gas cooktop appears to work fine although our downdraft pulls the flame out. I would
NOT purchase their products again.

Should have written this long time ago. Bought an electric stove top from Goemans in Mississauga, Ontario. Cost a
fortune but wanted quality as installed in new granite, what a piece of **! The seal separated - fixed under warranty,
large burner control failed - fixed under warranty. Less than a year later, seal split again followed by the same control
valve failing, contacted Goeman's and Viking several times but they would not cover costs to repair. Why would
anyone pay for this kind of repair? Fool me once, shame one you. Fool me twice. Zero stars. Crap product/Crap
service.
Charlie D. of Billings, MT on Dec. 25, 2015
The first range, a 36" open burner and the range hood, have been fine for 12 years. Surviving a move to a new
house even. The dishwasher purchased at the same time started badly staining glassware & silver after a couple
years. Viking said it was crappy dishwasher soap (phosphates removed) but the Bosch at our ranch did fine.
Limeaway removed the staining temporarily. Inspected the racks and found the plastic coating cracked exposing the
carbon wire core which was rusting. Viking said they'd happily sell me new racks for $450. Compared it to a
neighbors' dishwashers, found it to be an Asko. Racks were less than half Viking's. Very Funny. 30" open burner gas
stove at ranch would not light/stay lit. Viking said likely master propane regulator was bad (but fireplace & Rannai
water heater worked fine).
Third-party repair person specified by Viking found range regulator out of limit, requested replacement. A month later,
no regulator after many calls. I built a water manometer, adjusted Viking regulator to spec, range worked fine. Then
noticed when range top leveled, triangular gaps between range & counter face. Adjusting feet to plumb range sides
with counter made range top 1/2 bubble off. Viking said floor not level (it was fine). Problem was range not square,
back had been screwed on with sides not plumb. Called third party repair person, he said call somebody else. Viking
hadn't paid him for diagnosing the regulator problem. Removed back, squared stove, replaced back (new screw holes
required), problem solved. BBQ looked massively "professional" but cast-iron burners' holes continually rusted shut,
had to be reamed twice a year.
Porcelainized sheet iron flame diffusers and grates didn't last two years (their new ones are stainless), found SS
burners, diffusers & grates on the internet for 1/4 Viking's prices. Drip-drawer plastic (!), rollers melted immediately,
replaced with SS. Moral: Great appearance, great brochures, celebrity endorsements (paid, most likely), a generous
retail mark-up (probably) encourages dealer loyalty and dealer omission of known crappy quality control, crappy build
details and total absence of warranty service discharge. Wouldn't buy anything Viking again.
Deb of Wilmington. NC on Dec. 23, 2015
We purchased several Viking "high end" appliances for a condominium about 6 years ago. I have never been so
dissatisfied with an appliance line ever. We opted for induction cooktop as we could not do gas. It has been highly
disappointing! All of the large burners have stopped working. First one about a year ago then two others less than 3
months apart. I was told by service rep for Viking the parts alone will be over $3,200. Are you kidding me? The
elements usually burn out affecting same circuit. One large and one small burner share but our small burners work.
I would never buy another and suggest you DO NOT either. In addition our Viking ice maker does not work. Our
refrigerator ice maker became our source for ice since. It works only if you manually move arm each time shelf is
pulled out. I can not begin to express the poor quality and especially short life cycle of these very expensive appliance.
Sheryl of Suwanee, GA on Dec. 8, 2015
Viking six burner gas cooktop - I confess. I saw some of the bad reviews for Viking customer service and thought
that out of the large number of sales, it is the angry customers who write reviews. But here I am. My appliance is still
under warranty. I ordered a part on November 3rd. Weeks before Thanksgiving, the part is still not here and will not
be here by Christmas. No one knows when it will be here. Not so much as a clue. The Viking customer service is really
simply nonexistent. The part is "on back order." They "do not know when it will get to the factory." They have
absolutely no sense of how disappointing it is not to be able to use a brand new kitchen for Thanksgiving or
Christmas.
The customer service department is universally cold and uncaring. At this point Viking cannot possibly redeem itself.
They cannot turn back the clock. But not to worry. They do not even care. I bought the cook-top. There is no return
policy. I made the bad decision to purchase Viking. I should have just lit a fire with my old cook-top and burned a few
thousand dollars. In which case I would have been better off because I might be able to have used the huge fire to
cook for my family over the holidays. Please look away from the shiny brand name. Money cannot replace the time
that you will invariably lose waiting for parts. Buy a different high end brand.
Joanne of White Rock, BC on Dec. 3, 2015
When we first took delivery of our Viking stove (double oven, 4 burners and grill) the larger of the two ovens didn't
work and the computer motherboard had to be replaced. The company servicing it was great so the impact was
minimal. Within the first few months, the black finish on the grease trough, although never used, started to peel,
exposing the shiny metal underneath. Since it is so visible on top of the stove, I reached out to Brigade (the new
name for Viking in Canada) for a replacement part, under warranty. After much waiting on hold, and back and forth
emails, they agreed to send the replacement part.
I waited five months only to find out that the order was never placed and a new company has taken over their parts
distribution. They have informed me that since my warranty has now expired, they will SELL me the part at a
discount. How nice! This stove, which looks beautiful, was meant to be a once in a lifetime purchase. Not only is it
showing early signs that it won't stand up to normal use, the lack of customer service is disheartening! I wish I loved
my stove but I don't and would not recommend a Viking/Brigade due to the poor customer service.

I have a Viking gas stove that does not turn off and continues to heat until I have to turn off the electric at the circuit
breaker. I have had this repaired just a few weeks ago and it is happening again. I have been waiting for a call back
from Viking since Monday and this is dangerous. My husband has called many times daily. The oven thermometer
read over 700 degrees. Viking will be responsible if something happens. Weeks without an oven is unacceptable when
you pay almost $5000 for an oven. I want this fixed. If my house blows up, it is well documented that this is part of
the recall and I have called you guys. I'm sure the insurance company would see Viking as responsible. Unacceptable!
Alex of Los Angeles, CA on Dec. 1, 2015
I just sold my 30" Viking range (to a guy that refurbishes and resells them) and have never been so happy in my life!
What a complete piece of crap and absolute horrible customer service. I purchased brand new in 2008 and after a
couple years of moderate use the oven began to cycle off during cooking and would not cycle back on. I spent over
$1000 with two different "Viking Authorized" repair companies to replace the computer control board, the
thermostat, and sensor, only to have the exact same problem. Viking customer service provided me with zero help.
The repair guys both told me that they encounter the same problem with countless Viking ranges. I'm giving Wolf a
shot - hopefully they will be better. Buyer beware!

I am extremely frustrated with my viking appliances. We saved a long time to purchase the best I thought at the time
to be viking. I purchased the microwave, dishwasher, and range. From the very first month I had nothing but
problems. I have never been able to use the stove. It had to be repaired from day one. Can't bake cookies - one side
is done, the other burnt. What is sad is that I a have brand new stove and can't use it. Last Thanksgiving I had a half
done turkey with 20 people waiting to eat dinner. This is after it was repaired for the 5th time.
Now it is Thanksgiving again and I can't use my brand new stove and have to go rent one because my Stove is not
working again. The repairman informed me that the part had to be back ordered. Are they Kidding. With a company
their size and how expensive their unusable appliances are, you would think they would have a little replacement part
that they could fed-ex the next day especially when they know it is close to a holiday, especially Thanksgiving.
The microwave didn't work either and had to be replaced and it still doesn't work, it continually kicks a breaker. We
have lived in our house 20 years and never had a breaker problem with our old microwave. Also the knobs on the
front of the stove are a fire hazard, if someone even brushes up against them they will turn on. Afraid for the kids. I
would like to take my overly expensive VIKING APPLIANCES that are nothing but junk straight to the city dump. I
would NEVER purchase anything that is VIKING again!

I wanted to share a review of my Viking range because it was such a big investment. We purchased a gas sealed
burner VGSC5304BBS range back in the fall of 2011. My wife loves to cook and she thought a Viking would last
forever. She patiently waited over 10 years to buy her dream stove. We've had nothing but problems with both the
broiler and the bottom burners. Both burners have required constant repairs and the broiler still won't light on the
convection setting. We've had to replace the bottom oven pan because it had a broken weld and we replaced the
convection fan cover because it was rubbing the fan.The stove looks nice and it definitely gives the impression of
quality but its reliability is horrible. I filed a claim with the BBB but Viking refused to help me. Save your money and buy
a different brand. any other brand. Also, it has been recalled twice for safety problems. Terrible investment at over
$6k.

Constant repair of Viking vgic365-6bss range. One thing you can count on around the holidays is to work on this
piece of ** range. I was sold on the idea of handing this down to generations to come. I would not wish this piece of
** to any of my children. Shop around and read reviews. Regrettable.
Roger of Leawood, KS on Nov. 12, 2015
I purchased a new home with a Viking VWH3648SS "professional style" residential range hood to accompany the
Viking Range that was installed below. It is fitted with a 1200CFM in-line blower. The package cost close to $2500
new. We use our kitchen daily for a family of 4. At the 8 year point, the lighting control knob began to loosen.
Eventually, we called an "authorized" Viking Service provider called, "Mr. Appliance" They sent out a repairman who
worked on the hood and seemed to have repaired the problem. But within three or four weeks, the knob came loose
again. We called and the head honcho from Mr. Appliance came to fix the problem. We thought that was the end.
Fast forward 5 years later and the knob loosens again. Not wanting to spend another several hundred dollars, I
decided to address the problem myself. As an degreed engineer, I am not one to avoid a technical challenge.
I pulled the hood switch panel apart only to discover that the switch had been tie wrapped into place. Over the years,
heat, vibration and usage caused the tie wrap to stretch. The proper way to have made the repair was to remove the
switch face plate which is held in place by the fan, lights and heating lamp rocker switches (spring clips). This provides
access to an underlying nut plate to which the control should have been mounted using a 1/2 inch nut. In the process
of disassembly, I discovered that the control thread, made of nylon or plastic, had been stripped which might explain
why a tie wrap had been used. I ordered a new part for $58 and mounted it correctly, adding a lock nut to the
assembly.
But that's not the biggest problem. Upon disassembling the hood, I discovered inaccessible areas to be caked with
grease so thick that it took a scraper to remove. This grease was checked separately as being flammable. The recess
areas and sockets where hot halogen light and heat bulbs sit was particularly thick with burned grease. There were
pools of liquid and solid grease in inaccessible areas of the hood that if ignited during a pan fire or electrical fire would
provide fuel to burn the surrounding wood cabinets, the drywall and the exposed studs behind the hood covering.
Mind you, these areas are not normally accessible for cleaning by a consumer.
In my attempt to clean and repair this poorly constructed product, I was exposed to razor sharp sheet metal edges
and burrs which had not been properly or safely machined during the manufacturing process. Particularly dangerous is
the access holes surrounding the range hood lights where a consumer might attempt to clean only to be cut in the
process. There are dozens of complaints in various internet review sites that complain about this issue in consumer
accessible parts like the filter elements. Any machine shop professional will tell you that Viking Range has used
improper technique in their manufacturing process which expose service people to the possibility of serious cuts.
A call to Viking Range customer service resulted in the answer: "We don't recommend that consumers access these
areas and any tampering will void the warranty". Of course, the warranty is long expired. There didn't seem to be any
concern (or understanding) by the Viking Range person of the dangerous design that Viking Range has released to the
market.
I have video taped my work and after I have a chance to edit the raw material, I will post the shocking videos and will
be sending a copy to the CPSC (Consumer Product Safety Commission) for recall consideration. This range hood is a
fire danger and a health hazard that should be addressed with the thousands of customers who unknowingly have

I would love to see responses from authorized (or freelance) service personnel with opinions on these issues. By the
way, the Viking Range VGRC365-6BD commercial grade open burner gas range that accompanies this hood is just as
poorly constructed with dangerous sharp edges. It is a nightmare to clean. Never again a Viking Range product.

After multiple service calls to repair/replaced the igniters on our Viking Professional Range, we now keep a fire starter
on the range top to ignite the burners. Two local service companies will not warranty either the Viking igniters or their
repair/replacement because igniter parts are consistently defective if they are even available from Viking Parts. Viking
Ranges will not return our calls. Nice range with chronically defective parts that are impossible to repair/replace. After
more than $1,700 in igniter repair/replacement, don't expect to light my stove without a fire stick. Remember, most
Viking sales people are painfully aware of the problem but totally avoid the issue before you purchase the range.
