But Uma had no control and right to say no; when when a senior Maoist would demand submission. She could only lay devastated bearing the repeated degrading ordeals and perhaps curse being a woman. Four months ago, she come out on the pretext of seeing a doctor and stay hidden with her aunt. Uma has been leading from the front in the romanticized people’s war; killing dozens of policemen and innocents who got caught in the violent cross fires. Now she wants, the state, against which she had picked up the gun to save and rehabilitate her. That involves the massacre of 24 policemen and raid on a police station in which two policemen were killed and an officer abducted in October 2009. She is also one of the suspects in Jharkhand MP Sunil Mahato's murder in 2007. Uma is tormented and very angry. She joined the Maoists at age of seventeen; will surrender on 26th August and let the world know how the women comrades have been treated in the vast jungles under brutal control of the ultras. If someone like her, having a leadership role is not spared, the plight of others can easily be imagined with clarity. Her eyes flashing with deep rage,summing her seven years of tormented life under the pervading beastly culture in the jungles. After about a year of joining Maoists, she was put on night-long sentry duty at a forest camp in Jharkhand. Suddenly, out of the dark, Bikash came up and asked her for water. As she turned to fetch it, he grabbed and tried to force himself on her violently, threatened to strangle her. After forcing her into submission, raped her. Bikash now heads state military commission of ultras. She was 17 then. He warned her against telling anyone about its. Her complaints were never taken seriously, as most women recruits are exploited by senior Maoists. Even senior women leaders are forced to have multiple sexual partners. If a member gets pregnant, she has no choice but to abort. A child is seen as a great burden that hampers the agility of guerrillas, waging a war on an unjust and uncaring state.. She knows in depth the wide spread and commonly accepted brutalization of women Maoists. Many of her senior leaders exploited her sexually repeatedly, as a copy of Das Capital and other paraphernalia of guerrilla litterateur, could have been fluttering aimlessly, thrown aside. According to her, even natural feminine urge to paint nails, wearing a nose ring or earrings is deeply frowned upon by decision makers. But they had no problem when lusty uncontrolled urges of men, made them turn in to animals, against defenseless unwilling females. The starkly visible absence of any internal mechanism to address and control such brutalities only signify the acute callousness and incompetence of the leadership. They claim to change the world fundamentally and erase exploitations and inhuman urges, but Uma has exposed them completely. Hers is not an isolated case, and betrayed the wide spread malice and basic weakness. Further, it not that the virile comrades have confined unleashing their lusty depravity only on the females with in their rank.s They have been even more ruthless when mounting a raid on treacherous villages, suspected to be teeming with police informers and those siding with the state. They have invariably raped the women and killed the men to further their war and fear. It will be further horrific, if Arundhani Roy and highly respected author Mahasweta Devi, decide to spin weird tales to obfuscate the real issue and put the blame elsewhere. Who are these Maoist, who claim from rooftop to fight against the exploitations to change the wretched exploitative world? These are those deeply trigger happy and blood craving ideological infants, who abhorred pathetic democracy, cried aloud, got very angry, took to jungles to calmly foment the long awaited violent revolution and annihilation of class enemies. They have systematically stole and sold forest produce to buy guns, collect red taxes, formed violent gangs to take their perennial hate agenda ahead. That process was made easy by beating and terming corrupt Forrest guards/policeman/traders as class enemies. These enemies are sentenced in Kangaroo courts and killed before poor harassed tribal,who are given guns to kill more enemies. These sordid facts are coming out now in open and the Maoists, so far were believed to be beyond inflicting any injustice with in their presumably egalitarian ethos and practices; built and controlled precisely to the last small step towards a Utopian world of equality and justice. Years ago, my close friend, a former important member CMI-ML, used to share such large scale exploitation, he him self has been a part of. Corrupt forest officials, policemen and other lesser beings have always been involved in such pathetically low human behavior. There is an uncanny corollary and mirrors well known depravity of thugs, filthy riches, feudal and bourgeois, depicted in written and cinematic tales. Now, when the the highly focused and ideologically enlightened ultra leaders have been so widely been accused of such depravity, its needs some rethink about the ability, limitations of people and their leaders who have gone in to jungles to change the world, so decisively. Arunthati Roy went in to jungles to see the wonderful world created by fighters of justice and equality. She scathingly quoted prevalence of dastardly rapes by the security forces being one of the main reason of people taking arms and wage the just war. How come no Uma, could tell her the plight of women in jungles? Certainly the leaders were careful enough to choose who could be with Roy to hide the widespread female plight and further her already misty and romanticized vision. Or even she could have brushed aside feeble complaints of few foolish girls out to defame the brave warriors of
justice. Perhaps to her extra sensitive faculties , these are small prices are to be paid by females towards the accomplishment of a larger and far reaching goal. Marxists intellectuals and Maoist supporters have historically blamed the well known demons of feudalism, capitalism, imperialism etc for such dastardly acts and always ridicule and cox the world to to see the unavoidable manifestation of such fundamental malice of powerful affecting the poor of the world.
