RESEARCH IN CONTINUING EDUCATION Introduction
Nurses who continued their education in this field enjoy marked professional advantages. Usually , Continuing Nursing Education means obtaining certification in nursing specialities. Certification validates nurses expertise and enables them to provide patients with more comprehensive care. An increasing number of studies are evaluating the effect of CNE on practice. Researchers who investigating this relationship have traditionally adopted Qualitative Non Experimental research designs. Also a small but significant number of studies have adopted the Classical experimental approach, and those studies asserts that the experiments (i. e, CNE) can make a contribution which is very valuable when we evaluate the relationship between Continuing Professional Nurse Education and practice.

Barriers in research in CNE
The main barrier of research in CNE is the problem of implementing valid research results in nursing practice. CNE has been promoted as one way to bridge the gap between the research and practice so that patients may benefit. Davis et.al described Continuing Medical Education phase in career of a physician and this can be applied to other health professionals especially nursing. Therefore the measure that can be taken to solve this barrier can be, i. Setting research into practice Getting research into practice is not as simple as choosing an intervention. Here many factors acts as mediating factors like the characteristics of patient ,the practitioner, and the desired behaviour change. Similarly administrative or financial policies within the organisations & settings acts as an disincentives ,but still implementing something that are not done as usual, or doing something new creates much difference. Planning for improving the practice For improving the practice, as professionals we need to develop systems of scrutinising one s practice. It includes initial need assessment accomplished using strategies such as self reflection, reading, and discussion with respected peers. Choosing a learning activity where often there arises discrepancy between health professionals preferences for a style of continuing education and what might be most effective in improving practice.

Reading materials can also be used if they are evidence based. Secondary sources such as journal are ideal because they present only high quality research. Evaluation of behavioural change strategies

Several studies have been conducted to assess the effectiveness of CNE programmes in behavioural change strategies and the reviews states that CNE were effective in improving practice.
