A full version of the Student Accommodation Code is available to download at:

Environmental Good Practice
Sunderland University was the first University in the North East to achieve the Carbon Trust Standard accreditation. The Carbon Trust Standard is the world’s first carbon award that requires an organisation to measure, manage and reduce its carbon footprint and actually make real reductions year-on-year. The University is proud of its achievements in this area and is committed to environmental sustainability. Residential Services seeks to reduce its carbon emissions through greater environmental awareness and control across all its accommodation – monitoring closely the areas of waste, energy and utilities, transport and procurement to promote sound environmental management policies. We encourage our residents to save energy usage through simple measures, ranging from switching off lights, computer screens and phone chargers to sharing the cooking of meals. In doing so our residents will support the University’s energy awareness campaign ‘The Big Turn Off’ and collectively these small measures can have a massive impact on the amount of carbon produced by the University and help in achieving our carbon reduction targets.

http://www.thesac.org.uk/
and the National Code at

http://www.nationalcode.org/

The codes outline best practice and provide benchmarks for the management and quality of student housing in the Higher Education sector, protecting students’ rights to safe, good quality accommodation, wherever they are studying, and makes sure they get the best out of their time living in university or college residences.
