Right Living

Phil 4:9
9 Those things, which ye have both learned, and received, and heard, and seen in me, do: and
the God of peace shall be with you.
KJ V
Introduction
1… (Phil.4:6-7) teaches us “Right Praying.”
2… (Phil.4:8) teaches us “Right Thinking.”
3… (Phil.4:9) teaches us “Right Living.”
Phil 4:7-8
7 And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds
through Christ J esus.
KJ V
Note the link between the heart and mind. (You will never have peace in your mind until you
have peace in your heart).
Note what Paul said in (Phil.4:9), he say to think on those things:
1…Which ye have both learned. (Are you learning?)
2… And Received. (Are you receiving?)
3… And Heard. (Are you listening?)
4… And seen in me. (Are you being a good example?)
5… Do. (Are you applying these things?)
The end results; and the God of peace shall be with you. (Paul has up to this time taught us that
right praying, right thinking, and right living brings us the peace of God.
Right Living:
Rom 5:1
Having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord J esus Christ,
NKJ V
1… Right living is putting our faith in the finished work of Christ.
2… Paul said in (2 Cor 13:11); Become complete. Be of good comfort, be of one mind, live in
peace; and the God of love and peace will be with you. (Here Paul connects the mind to right
living).
3… Paul said in (Phil 4:7) that the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard
your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. (Here we see the connection of the mind and the
heart in right living).
Keep this in mind:
1… You cannot separate outward action and inward attitudes. (What is in the heart, will show in
your actions).
2… Paul said in (Gal 5:22-23) But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering,
kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law.
3… Some people don’t have a FRUIT problem, they have a ROOT problem. (The fruit is what
shows up from the root).
4… The important thing about a tree is the root system. If the roots do not go down deep, the tree
will not grow in a healthy manner. If we are rooted in the things of the Lord, then our words will
be the fruit of fellowship with him.
5… Right living will result in right fruit.
6… When you think right, you pray right, you live right, your fruit will be right.
The way we think affects the way we live.
1… Right living starts on the inside, having the mind of Christ.
Phil 2:5
5 Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ J esus:
KJ V
2… (Luke 6:45) puts it this way; A good man out of the good treasure of his heart bringeth forth
that which is good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which
is evil: for of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaketh. (Here we see the connection of the
mind, the heart, and the mouth).
3… Fruit is always true to character, an apple tree produces apples, not oranges, and a Christian
will always produces good fruit, not evil.
4… (Matt 15:18) teaches us that the things that come out of the mouth come from the heart, and
these make a man 'unclean.'
Right living and what we speak:
J ames 3:11
11 Doth a fountain send forth at the same place sweet water and bitter?
KJ V
1… James issued this warning; a fountain cannot give forth two kinds of water, a tree cannot
bear different kinds of fruit.
2… We expect a fountain to flow with sweet water at all times, we expect the fig tree to bear figs
and the olive tree to bear olives.
3… The bottom line is this; if the tongue is inconsistent, there is something wrong with the heart.
James 3:10
10 Out of the same mouth proceedeth blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought
not so to be.
KJ V
4… The problem is not the tongue; it is the heart.
Matt 15:18
18 But those things which proceed out of the mouth come forth from the heart; and they defile
the man.
KJV
5… (Prov 4:23) tell us; Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life.
(What is in the heart comes out the mouth).
