Robot Drive System using
An industrial robot is a programmable device which is used to move materials, parts, tools, or special devices through variable programmed motions for the performance of a variety of tasks. An industrial robot consists of a number of rigid links connected by joints of different types, controlled and monitored by a computer [1]. The links of the robots shifts about the prescribed axis by getting power through the drive system or actuators. The movement produced may be translator in nature or rotary about a joint. t the joint the actuators provide re!uired force or tor!ue for the movement of the links. The movement of all the links combined together form the arm end or wrist motion. The source of power for the actuators can be through the compressed air, pressuri"ed fluid or the electricity, based on which they are known as #neumatic drive, $ydraulic drive and %lectric drive respectively [1]. Generally the power sources used to operate the robots are $ydraulic drive, %lectric drive and #neumatic drive. The designers and users have a multiple choices of robot drive system and the final selection should be based upon an application requirements. Hence, robot drive system selection is an important task for the designer. Once, application of robot drive ill be finali!ed then designers should focus on the consideration of robot drive system. The main requirements of good robot drive system are that it must have satisfactory po er to eight ratio, reliability, accuracy and response, compliance, etc. Hence, selection of robot drive system can be considered as multi criteria decision making problem. The main objective of the present study is to implement the Analytical hierarchy process "AH#$ method for selection of optimal robot drive system for a given industrial application.
