University’s Leaking Pipes Rehabilitated Over Spring Break
This university needed a leaking HVAC system rehabilitated in-place during its one-week spring break, and Nu Flow was up to the challenge. The pipes were effectively cleaned and lined without causing any destruction or disruption to normal school operations. Project: Use Nu Line to rehabilitate the failing HVAC lines in-situ. Site: A southern California public university’s science building. This 3-story building was constructed in 2002 and holds science classrooms, laboratories and staff offices. System: 650 feet of black steel pipes that make up the HVAC chilled water system for the building. The 6"-wide pipes are located above the ceiling of the first floor, behind fire rated drywall ceiling.

Problem: The black steel pipes had water corrosion and MIC build-up, which caused leaks throughout the system. Also, the school wanted the work done during spring break, so there was a very tight schedule. Circumvention: If the university had chosen a traditional pipe repair instead of Nu Flow’s in-place solution, the science building would have been closed off to students and faculty during the normal school year. The fire rated drywall ceilings would be opened, causing a messy destruction site and expensive repairs. Solution: Nu Flow’s most skilled Nu Line technicians completed this project within the short timeframe. The pipes were cleaned and then the epoxy was applied to the pipe system. This epoxy barrier coating will prevent future pinhole leaks, corrosion, MIC build-up and other common failures. This process was completed using two small existing access points at the beginning and the end of the pipe system.
