SAP DMS: Use of Characteristics and
Classes
INTRODUCTION
• We utilize SAP classification system, to hold record
data for different SAP business objects like document
info records.
• We have to modify the arrangement as per our need to
exchange file information of the archives in sap DMS.
• That means, we have to secure classes and assign list
fields, otherwise called characteristics, to them.
• The Principle Consultants of ArchitectSAP Solution has
implemented this process effectively in one of their
client’s project.
Process..
• Here, we need to make the characteristics first,
then we make class and afterward we relegate
these characteristics to the class.
• After doing it we assign this class to document
type.
• While creating document in CV01N using this
document type, we get the characteristics to be
assigned in the documents.
• At ArchitectSAP Solutions, an effective SAP BASIS
consulting is provided through implementation of
such processes.
Steps To Create New Characteristics...
• Open transaction CT01.
• Write in a name for the new characteristic and then enter (use
characters A-Z, 0-9 and hyphens only).
• At the new panel enter a information into the field Description.
• Select a Data Type. It’s advised to use data type CHAR in order to
avoid conversion errors while importing archives.
• After filling the Data Type fill in the options in the appearing dialog
(e.g. length of the string). Do not transform the Value assignment!
• You may check the Entry required checkbox, if this characteristic is
necessary
• Save the settings.
Creating all the necessary characteristics in this process is a part of SAP
BASIS consulting services.
Steps To Create New Classes
• Start transaction CL01
• In the appearing dialog select the standard class type for the
document management system (default: 017).
• Fill in a name of the new class.
• Enter a description for the class in the class basic data panel.
• In order to include characteristics click the Characteristics
button.
• Save the class after adding the characteristics.
Finally, Check the settings by creating a document info record
that is assigned to this class.
