Saving the Earth – Comic Strip

Lesson Saving the Earth – Comic Strip
Initiation:
Q.Raise your hand if you read the comics in the newspaper.
Q. Raise your hand if you read comic books.

A. Japanese, Comic Strips, Comic Books
Procedure / Activity
Your challenge today is to create your own comic strip that consists of 6 panels in order to tell people
about something having to do with recycling, the environment, or any of the vocabulary words below.
Students will complete the Comic Strip Idea Worksheet
Get ideas on paper before starting.
Topics
Recycling
Clean Drinking Water
Conserving Electricity
Conserving Water
Clean Oceans
Deforestation
Forest Fires
Etc.
Students will create their own comic strip including a brief story, 2 characters and color as described in
the rubric provided.
Closure:
What was the hardest part about creating your own comic?
Story
Creating the Characters
Getting the Characters to look the same
Coloring the back ground
Etc.
Notes:I have enclosed a teacher example that shows different techniques and options when helping the students
create the comic. Some things can be alluded to, some characters do not have to be entirely in the frame, etc. I
recommend connecting with the art teacher for an interdisciplinary or co-teaching opportunity.
I am sure your students are better artists than I am.
