SCHOOL BUS TRANSPORTATION – SHORTER WALKING DISTANCES Frequently Asked Questions and Answers: • Why is this change taking place?
The Thames Valley District School Board is harmonizing walking distances with the London District Catholic School Board. Secondary school students who attend Thames Valley District School Board schools presently have to walk more than 4.8 kilometres to be eligible for busing. In September 2010 that distance will be shortened to 3.2 kilometres. Walking distances for elementary students will also be shortened from 2.0 kilometres to 1.6 kilometres.

How many students will this change affect?
More than 3000 students in total will be eligible across the district.

What about Thames Valley students who live outside London?
Most students outside of London are already benefiting from the shorter walking distances. Woodstock and St. Thomas students will also notice a change from the new harmonization rules starting in September 2010.

Will students who have been eligible for busing in the past face any changes?
No, if you were eligible for busing in the past, you will continue to be eligible.

How will I find out if my child is eligible for bus transportation?
You will receive information in the mail from Southwestern Transportation Services in the next few months.

We received a letter in the mail saying our child will be eligible, but we plan to move before September 2010. Will our child still be eligible for busing?
