THE SCOTT FAMILY
By Noel Winfield Scott, (21 Feb 1907-5 Dec 1987), compiled about 1975.
The name Scott is of Scotch or English origin and this family is from all sources available, of Scotch extraction. Owen and Jacob Scott, the progenitors of all the Scotts of our family were evidently born in Pennsylvania. At least they migrated from Pennsylvania to Indiana. Their father’s name is unknown, although from various sources, the name Ruben is associated with him. The brothers, Owen and Jacob, came from Pennsylvania in about 1816 and settled in Whitewater Township, Hamilton County, Ohio, (this date is based on the fact that Daniel Scott, son of Owen Scott was born in Pennsylvania in 1815 and Issac Scott, his next son was born in Hamilton County, Ohio in 1817. From there (Hamilton County, Ohio), they migrated to Rush and Marion Counties, Indiana, respectively. Records show that Owen Scott entered land from the government in Anderson and Richland townships, Rush County in 1821 and 1823; and the will of Jacob Scott is on record in Marion County where he died in 1860, (Will Record “C”, Page 276). Evidently, he settled in Marion County, Indiana. Owen Scott spent his entire Indiana existence in Rush County, dying there in the village of Richland on January 2, 1865. His birth date is not known nor his burial place, but in all probability, he is buried in Pleasant Run Cemetery, north of Richland. He was married twice. Of his first wife and mother of all of his children, we know nothing. His second wife was Missiah Earlywine. At his death, he owned very little real estate, but his estate was valued at about $6,500. His will and the documents of final settlement of his estate are on file in the Clerk’s Office in Rushville, Indiana.

For the Benefit of the descendants of Daniel and Issac Scott (brothers) who married Mary and Elizabeth Rector (sisters), the following notes on the Rector Family are given: John Kennedy Rector, (1800-1863) was born in Kentucky and migrated to Jefferson County, Indiana, thence Decatur County, thence to Clinton County, Indiana. He married Sarah King in Decatur County, Indiana. George King, (1751-1838) was a Revolutionary War soldier; married Mary Saunders, (1756-1842). He is buried in Milford Cemetery, Decatur County, Indiana. Their children were: James, William, Edward, John, George, Jeremiah, Phoebe, Esther and Sarah King Rector, (1795-1865).
