Newark- Joseph Ferriero- Chairman of the Bergen County Democratic Organization.
was found guilty of bribery, fraud, and racketeering charges on Yesterday. Federal
Prosecutors are calling it a Politics For Profit scheme. Ferriero 57 faces a maximum of
45 years in prison and 750,000 dollars worth of fines. Prosecutors are saying that he used
his position to " line his pockets."
"What Joe Ferriero did in a decade as chariman of the Bergen County Democratic
Organization was to take that unpaid position and make it pay." says the assistant U.S.
Attorney Rachael Honig during closing arguments on Tuesday.
Ferriero was a part of a scheme to extort thirty five thousand dollars a month from Mills
Corp- the company that plans on completing the Xanadu Complex at the Meadowlands.

Prosecutors also claim that he made shell companies to put hundreds of thousands of
dollars into his own bank accounts.
Ferriero's lawyer Baldassare said, " Once again, the best of the government could do
against Joe Ferriero was obtain a mixed verdict. Just as occurred the last time the
government prosecuted Mr. Ferriero, we believe this verdict will not survive post-trial
motions.
What Baldassare referred to was Ferriero's conviction on federal corruption charges in
2009 which were vindicated a year later.

In National News…

The unnamed Baggage handler who was on the Alaska Airlines cargo hold has been
banned from working as a cargo person. He claims to have fallen asleep in a cargo hold
of an Alaskan Airlines flight on Monday and awoke when a piece of luggage fell on top
of him.
"It was nothing but pitch black and a loud noise. So I was scared, and I didn't know what
was going on."
He wasn't injured, but Alaska Airlines released a statement yesterday that he has been
permanently banned from working on Alaska Airlines flights. The luggage company is a
private contractor, so even though he cannot work on Alaska Airlines anymore, he still
has a job.
The plane was headed to Los Angeles, and was only in the air for fourteen minutes when
it had to turn back around to land at Seattle.

In international news...

Iraqi Prime Minister Haider Al-Abad said that perpetrators of human rights abuses among
his security forces and Shi'a militia allies will be held accountable. Photos and videos
have been popping up all over social media showing Iraqi special forces torturing and
murdering civilians. These are the same forces that the United States are training and
providing one and half billion dollars worth of weapons to combat militant groups such
as ISIS.
Federal law requires credible evidence about gross violations of human rights requires the
United States to cut off aid- Lahey law.
Some Iraqis are claiming that these videos are ISIS propaganda to make the Iraqi military
look bad, claiming that the patches seen in the video could be bought at marketplaces.
The United States are monitoring Iraqi war crimes, and have already withheld financial
aid to certain military forces overseas.

Churchill Downs will be banning the "selfie stick" for the kentucky Derby on May
Second. Venues around the world have started banning the contraptions used to take
pictures of yourself from a greater distance. For Churchill Downs, Track Spokesman
John Asher says, "Banishing selfie sticks is a safety measure to protect the horses and the
massive crowd on Derby Day."
Knowing how crazy any sporting event could get. It is a legitimate safety concern. Asher
states, " I would expect a lot of sports to have concerns about their potential misuse."
They can easily be turned even into an accidental weapon just by accidentally swinging it
and hitting someone in the head. Asher is still promoting taking selfies at the race, just
not selfie stick selfies.

Weather
We were off to a little sloppy start today, but it should get better as the day goes along...
This morning was a little drizzly, but that should be the last of the rain for today. The
clouds should clear up a little bit, so we might be seeing some sun later on in the day. it
is 57 right now with a high of 70 in the afternoon. There is a twenty percent chance of
rain for the rest of the day.
Saturday should be a beautiful day with a high of seventy eight with partly cloudy skies.
It will be a little cooler on Sunday with highs of sixty two degrees, but still beautiful
weather.
Keep in mind your allergies this weekend. This should be a shorter allergy season, but
according to ABC News it will be shorter, but extremely intense because of the winter
that we have had. Researchers are saying that people who never thought they had
allergies will find themselves rubbing their eyes this allergy season.
