Event Is place to meet senior service providers, visit senior living communities
by Kevin Murphy The Webster Groves Senior Roundtable, a group of individuals representing senior organizations in and around the community, will hold its third annual “Senior Sampler” open house event on Sunday, May 2. The sampler, sponsored by the Webster Groves Senior Roundtable, is designed for seniors looking for assistance so that they may stay in their homes, or for those exploring the possibility of moving from their homes into a senior living community. Seniors and their families are encouraged to attend the event. Activities get underway with a Senior Resource Fair held at the Webster Groves Recreation Complex, located at Glendale and South Elm avenues. Running from noon to 2 p.m., the Resource Fair will provide an array of information from a diverse field of senior service providers. Visitors to the Resource Fair can take advantage of health screenings, learn about homedelivered meals, home health care, social and recreational opportunities, transportation opportunities, home safety and more. Refreshments will be served and prizes will be awarded. The Resource Fair is also the place to pick up a map for the afternoon’s Senior Resource Fair. The fair, which includes six area senior living centers, may be visited from 1 to 4 p.m. Participants may visit these living centers at their own convenience throughout the afternoon. “This is aimed at two groups. One is seniors who are looking around and thinking about alternative living opportunities. The other piece is families. The Senior Sampler is an event where people can come to know what’s there for seniors and their families,” said Webster Groves Mayor Gerry Welch. “We, the Senior Roundtable folks, have talked a lot of about crisis decisions — important decisions being made about seniors in the emergency room. This is the chance to make yourself knowledgeable before you reach that crisis point,” Welch continued. This year’s Senior Sampler stops are: • The Rockwood Retirement Community, 330 W Lockwood Ave. in Webster Groves, consists of 29 apartments housing active adults age 62 or better. Located in the heart of Historic Old Webster, residents enjoy tree-lined streets, sidewalk cafes and nearby shops. The Rockwood brings exceptional retirement living to one of St. Louis’ finest neighborhoods. • Bethesda Orchard Senior Living, 21 N. Old Orchard Ave. in Webster Groves, is the largest of Bethesda’s independent communities and one of the most active.
