September 2013

Family Readiness Group
Hello Louisiana Gold Families! We would like to start by thanking everyone who has participated in the activities held by the FRG over the last few months. Your attendance at meetings, contributions to our garage sale, and participation at our first play date has greatly improved the FRG as a whole. We hope to continue this positive growth over the next few months. Our September meeting will be held at the Bangor Chapel Fellowship Hall on September 12 at 6:30pm. Because September is Disaster Preparedness Month we will have informative packets available regarding what you should do to take care of your family before, during, and after a disaster occurs. We will make the packets available to anyone interested but unable to make the meeting. We will also discuss the upcoming Halloween party and make further decisions regarding food, prizes, and entertainment. We encourage everyone to attend the meeting and meet someone new from the boat! We appreciate all who turned in Calendar Squares and have enjoyed seeing the creativity of the families on our boat. We know our sailors will enjoy them! We were also able to assemble an additional twenty Single Sailor Boxes for our sailors. Beginning this month, if you have any shoe boxes you would like to donate to be used for Single Sailor Boxes please bring them to our monthly meetings. They will be stored and used for future Single Sailor Boxes. As always, please contact the FRG with any questions, concerns, or ideas you may have. We want to hear from you so we can meet the needs of our members. If you would like to get involved but are unsure how please contact us! We have many options available for those wanting to help out. Hello from the CO’s Wife
Hello, Louisiana Gold Families! My name is Sarah Peters, and due to that last minute rush before patrol, I get to fill up the CO's column this month! It was a pleasure to see so many families touring the ship on August 24th for Family Day. I hope you enjoyed your personalized tour from your favorite sailor! Not only is it amazing to see the sheer size of the ship, but visualizing your submariner going through their day onboard is a way to stay connected through the miles. Over the last month, I could not be more amazed at how responsive the crew and families of Louisiana Gold have proven themselves to be. This patrol started far ahead of schedule. Give yourselves a pat on the back for supporting your service member so their job could be done and done well. Have a great September, stay in touch with your sailor via email, and remember that those who stand and wait also serve. Sarah Peters
