OAuth to use context token.
 To authori ze requests by an app for SharePoi nt to access SharePoi nt resources on behal f of a user.
 To authenti cate apps i n the Offi ce Store, an app catal og, or a devel oper tenant.
For exampl e, OAuth is used i n cases where call s have to be made from a remote web server to SharePoi nt
2013 on behal f of a user. You woul d not use OAuth to make a call from the app web or from a remote
webpage usi ng the cl i ent l i brary, for exampl e.
To access resources, an app has to request app per mi ssi ons. In general , del egated authori zati on codes or
access tokens are issued by the OAuth securi ty token servi ce (STS). An exampl e of OAuth STS i s Wi ndows Azure
Access Control Service (ACS) OAuth endpoi nts. In contrast, the WS-Federati on STS and the Securi ty Asserti on
Markup Language (SAML) passi ve si gn-in STS are pri mari ly i ntended to i ssue si gn-i n tokens.

search resul ts are i mproved.
Another huge i mprovement i s the abili ty to use query rul es to create promoted resul ts. As i n the previ ous
exampl e, you coul d speci fy that when users search for “l eave request form,” they be provi ded the form they
are l ooki ng for as a promoted resul t.
Search presentati on i s not the onl y thi ng that got an upgrade. Crawli ng gets a ni ce feature upgrade, too, wi th
Conti nuous Crawl . SharePoi nt search can now pl ace a content scope under “Conti nuous Crawl ," maki ng new
content appears i n search resul ts that much faster.
6. Simplified Licensing
Thi s is not so much a feature unto i tsel f, but i t is worth menti oni ng here because the i mprovements made to
the l i censi ng al low you to get access to features that were previ ousl y restri cted to addi ti onal l icense fees.
FAST Search, whi ch carri ed wi th i t an addi ti onal cost i n SharePoi nt 2010, is now i ntegrated i nto the SharePoi nt
2013 search servi ce – no extra l i cense, no extra fee.
In SharePoi nt 2010, you also had to take on the more expensi ve “For Internet Si tes” l icense i f your server
provi ded any services to Internet users. In SharePoi nt 2013, Internet users are i ncl uded as part of the Standard
and Enterpri se SharePoi nt Server l i censes. No more “FIS” l i cense concerns.
7. Increased Performance
Performance gai ns i n SharePoi nt 2013 are wi despread. The new versi on takes a streamli ned approach to
handl i ng data from the bi ts stored on disk to the appli cati on presentati on. For i nstance, onl y data that has
changed on a vi ewed webpage i s sent to the cli ent. Any pi eces of the SharePoi nt s i te that remai n unchanged
after the page i s updated stays presented from cache. A si milar approach was taken at the SQL l evel : If user
makes a change to a document stored i n your SharePoi nt document l i brary, onl y the del ta is modi fi ed i n SQL.
Thi s can have a dramatic performance i mprovement, especi all y i n cases where the edi ti ng of l arge documents
are taki ng pl ace.
8. Full Cross-browser Functionality

SharePoi nt 2007 was Internet Expl orer-onl y. SharePoi nt 2010 tri ed to work wi th other browsers, but the
di fferences wer e apparent and frustrati ng. Worki ng wi th Chrome or Fi refox woul d work i n some parts of
SharePoi nt 2010, but for doi ng some features, you just had to swi tch to IE to get thi ngs done. Thi s was due to
the rel iance on Acti ve X to perfor m si te admi nis trati on. Even though some i tems coul d be done i n other
browsers, for anythi ng that requi red Acti ve X you coul d onl y perform that i n Internet Expl orer.
SharePoi nt 2013 now works wi th no Acti ve X controls, so you can do everythi ng – from worki ng wi th lists and
si tes to ful l y managi ng your farm through Central Admi ni strati on – through any modern browser.
9. eDiscovery Advances
Performi ng discovery for an audi t or i nvesti gati on can be a ti me-consumi ng, error prone, and frustrati ng
process. Unfortunatel y, i t i s al so a compl etel y unavoi dabl e and mandatory process i n many organi zati ons. e-
discovery i s the process of i denti fyi ng data that has been accessed, ei ther edi ted, or communi cated about
ei ther a person or a topic. This is for l egal professi onals to make a request to “gi ve me al l of the documents
deal i ng wi th X former empl oyee" (or partner, contractor, product, or cl i ent).
SharePoi nt 2013 i ncl udes an eDi scovery Center si te templ ate; what’s more, i t makes the process of fi ndi ng the
data availabl e through Enterprise Wi de eDi scovery. Enterpri se Wi de eDi scovery l ets SharePoi nt 2013 be the
central authori ty for fi ndi ng this documentati on, whether i t exi sts i n an Exchange 2013 mail box, Lync 2013, a
SharePoi nt si te, a searched websi te, or an NTFS share.
If the l egal team needs to fi nd all data rel evant to thei r i nvesti gati on, a discovery can be compl eted qui ckl y and
the resul ts saved off i n a format that can be accessed l ater.
10. OData Connections in Business Connectivity Services
Busi ness Connecti vi ty Services is not new, but l i ke workfl ow and search, i t’s such a huge part of SharePoi nt’s
successful features, that i ts i mprovements are worth menti oni ng. Especial l y this one, because SharePoi nt
al ready di d a great job of surfaci ng data from external sources through Busi ness Data Connecti vi ty, that the
i ncl usion of OData i s the frosti ng on the cake.
For those that are not aware of OData, i t i s a protocol for posti ng data to the web, can be used to connect to
web data:
 Netfl i x
 Ebay
 DBPedi a (an OData representati on of Wi ki pedi a)
 Datal ab
 Pl ural sight
 Stack Overfl ow
 TechEd 2013
 Twi tpi c
 Server Faul t
 Research.mi crosoft.com
In addi ti on, not onl y are websi tes maki ng thei r data accessi bl e through OData, but other appl i cati ons make
thei r data avai l abl e as OData producers, too.

1.6.4 SharePoint Foundation 2010 vs. SharePoint Server 2010
Just to say simply, SharePoint foundation is the basic, while SharePoint Server 2010 contains
advanced features. Even to install SharePoint Server SharePoint Foundation installation is must. The
basic question remains when to opt for which SharePoint Foundation or SharePoint Server?
The Question is too difficult, but answer is too simple. Answer is “Depends on user Requirements
not on Organizational Size”
