Social networking and applications debate

A very good morning I bid to the honorable adjudicators, the ever accurate
timekeepers, the misleading government, my fellow comrades of the opposition team, ladies
and gentlemen. Once again members of the floor the opposition case line is, we believe that
social networking sites and applications have positive impacts on society that overrule any
negative implications.
Before I deliver my arguments for the day, ladies and gentlemen, I would now like to
rebut the misleading arguments given by the government

Ladies and gentlemen, imagine a world with no boundaries, where even the search for
knowledge is limitless. Where learning is brought to new heights. All knowledge at just the
tip of your fingers. Now ladies and gentlemen, the technological advancements of this era
allows this unlimited learning. Are we then going to limit the advancements in learning, by
saying that social networking sites and applications have more negative impacts than
positive? Members of the floor, this is utter bollocks. Applications and even social
networking sites have indeed restructured the whole learning process. And that is my first
argument for the day. Social networking sites and applications in education.
Members of the parliament, imagine a child who has troubles understanding what he
is taught due to it being too vague. Studies done by Children Learning Foundation shows that
illustrations and colors in fact can increase a child’s understanding rate.Now this more
graphical learning is possible today through the usage of applications such as Khan Academy
and The Learning App. Khan academy ladies and gentlemen for instance, is a non-profit
organization with a mission of providing a free world class education for anyone, anywhere.
Now this amazing idea by Salman Khan was recently turned into an application to
revolutionize learning to be more portable.

This app now features thousands of educational resources including a personalized
learning dashboard. Various fields of study such as mathematics, history, biology, physics,
chemistry, economics and many others are explained thoroughly through videos that can be
viewed on your phones or tablets. Members of the floor, the best part is, all these resources
are free. Khan academy reaches to about 10 million students per month according to their
report in 2013. This is merely one application that has truly impacted society, students and
the youth as a whole, ladies and gentlemen.
Applications such as this eliminate the economic barrier that prevents effective
education. Even schools and institutions have begun to use applications like these to guide
and educate students. This type of education allows students to learn at their own pace and
comfort, which will allow for greater substance of the material they are presented with. As
the cost for education continues to spiral upwards, according to research done by MIT, more
people will have the chance to receive a quality education from anywhere in the world. This
chance of education for everyone simply proves our case line ladies and gentlemen that social
networking sites and applications have positive impacts that overrule any negative
implications.
Social networking site and applications have become increasingly important in
schools. The use of application such as google drive, google docs and even google hangouts
can make students collaborate infinitely with each other 24/7. In schools students can
collaborate so greatly and can achieve so much, but why does it have to stop when the school
bell rings? Why can’t this collaboration transcend the school walls? Now ladies and
gentlemen, with the help of social networking and applications this is now possible. Besides
that, students can further explore topics that they’re interested in through online social
networking. They can also learn and exchange knowledge with others that they may not have
had the opportunity to interact with face to face. Teachers often take advantage of student’s
social networking abilities to create class blogs, discussion forums, videos and more.
Members of the floor, this concept of infinite learning has already been implemented in the
Malaysian education system through the application Frog VLE. VLE actually stands for
virtual learning environment. So ladies and gentlemen this just proves our case line that
social networking sites and applications have positive impacts that overrule any negative
implications.

Ladies and gentlemen, social networking has revolutionized the medical field itself,
this shows the potential of social networking sites and applications to bring us to new heights.
Social networking can actually be used to inform people of various new diseases. You see
ladies and gentlemen, ideas and findings on the internet spreads faster than any disease. And
with this, doctors can find a way to prevent these illnesses from spreading any further. Apart
from that, applications such as Skype through video conferencing can be used by specialists
to assist other doctors in medical procedures. Imagine this, ladies and gentlemen, a
neurologist in a developed country like Japan or The US can assist in a procedure at the other
side of the globe. Isn’t this just amazing. Think of the possibilities over the horizon, people in
rural areas that lack doctors can indeed get medical help from specialists around the globe. It
is as if all medical knowledge is at reach. Members of the floor, there’s always hope for a
better world. All countries working together to better the people. Let’s go global. Let’s build
this world without borders together.

The possibilities of people changing the society itself has increased through these sites
and applications. The fact that we're sharing our ideas and toughts with other people, aren't
we not benifiting others too? Ladies and gentlemen, forums and discussions in these social
networking sites and applications have encouraged the transfer of ideas. It is so easy. Just
type in your problems and your solution is on your screen. Everything at your fingertips. It
has truly redefined living and brought us as a whole new level, advancing through technology
and breaking new boundaries. From manufacturing innovations that actually impact society
to ideas that change the world. We once again, strongly believe that social networking and
applications have possitive impacts that over rule any negative implications.
