P Q) How do you feel about EEA coming up with its newsletter 'SPARK', the first of its kind? A) I am very proud of the EEA for taking this initiative. I appreciate their effort to bridge the gap between departmental facilities and student requirements. ‘SPARK’ also serves as an apt medium of information regarding departmental issues. Q) How is our Department being affected by the changes in technology and infrastructure? A) The future batches are very st nd lucky, especially the 1 and 2 years, as there are plans to expand the department so as to accommodate the classrooms, laboratories and faculty rooms. The laboratories are also being planned to be diversified into separate rooms. Technology wise, there are plans to revise the curriculum, that are regularly employed in accordance with the Board of Studies, which consists of experts from premier institutions like IITs. These plans also include industry inputs as another judging factor. Q) From your experience, how do you feel the student community is changing over the years? A) As the years are passing by, the intellectual capital and enthusiasm of the students is increasing by leaps and bounds. However, the students are becoming more self-centered. Instead of being on the lookout for immediate benefits, they must strive continuously to gain knowledge. They must also have a broader perspective and must keep track of the technological advancements to work on something substantial. The students should get acquainted with the latest technologies.

From page ! Q) What are your expectations from EEA through ’SPARK’ ? A) The issue that the department has the required infrastructure and facilities that are not reaching the students beyond the classrooms is a drawback. The association must strive to facilitate the faculty members to reach students. It must also take up the initiative to arrange guest lectures on related fields to invoke curiosity amongst the students. The industrial tours and trips that are planned must also be taken seriously by the association to expose the students to the current level of technology being employed. Also, this magazine should serve as a medium to highlight the achievements of our department stalwarts. Q) Any advice to students in general and Fresher’s in specific? A) The students have a lot of energy and enthusiasm. However, this has to be perfectly channelized to build the necessary confidence, knowledge and skill set required for their future endeavors. The continuous support and guidance of the seniors is to be ensured by ‘SPARK’ to benefit the fresher’s batch. I wish them all the very best for their future and sincerely hope that they can make best use of the available facilities.

EEE FRESHERS’ EVENT
The Freshers’ event for the first year students of the Electrical Engineering Department was held with much pomp and grandeur on th August, the 11 . There was a lot of participation with up to 90 students taking part. The first round comprised of an aptitude test through which 20 boys and 10 girls were shortlisted. The question paper received a lot of appreciation for its level of difficulty and intellectual content. The shortlisted students had to undergo a session of group discussion with interesting and demanding topics. This round turned out to be lively with students coming up with witty statements. Finally the shortlisted students had to go through a gruelling interview which tested them on three aspects: their sense of logical reasoning, level of confidence and their skill on application of fundamentals. This interviews were taken by the fourth and the third year students who after lot of debating came to a decision and declared Arjun Manoj and K.Swathi as Mr. and Ms.EEE respectively. On the whole it was an enjoyable event both for the freshers as well as the event organisers. The main motive behind organising this event was to develop a healthy relation and promote a sense of friendliness between the seniors and the juniors.

Right now I feel like I am at the top of the world .At the very outset I would like to congratulate the organizers i.e. EEA for making the Fresher’s event a thoroughly enjoyable one for the participants. It was the perfect platform for knowing the EEE family at NITW.
I had always aspired to join NIT WARANGAL, which is among the best engineering colleges in India. I am very proud to say that my parent department, the Electrical Department ,was among the founding departments of NITW & has come to be known as one of the most successful departments over the years. So,it is a privilege to be adjudged Mr. Fresher’s. I can say with confidence that a bright future has been secured for us because we are the part of the coveted Created by branch,EEE at the best NIT in India.trial version, http://www.pdf-convert.com
The Fresher’s event organised by the EEA was the ideal platform for the students to showcase their potential & latent talents , at every juncture of the selection process . I feel privileged and excited but at the same time surprised that I became Ms EEE. I did not expect to win this title . I will use this opportunity to proactively contribute towards propelling the parent department to even greater heights. I will encourage all my friends to be actively participate in the upcoming Technozion and all the other cultural and technical events conducted by the department. I will do my best to uphold the ethos of the department and duties entrusted in me .I thank the department for entrusting me with this responsibility.
ALUMNI SPEAK
What according to you are the attributes of a teacher ,as a role model for the students? I became a teacher because, as a student I was inspired by them and somehow felt that I possessed the qualities I had expected in my teachers. As a student, I wanted my teachers to call me by my name because it made me feel honoured. Students should feel free to approach teachers. I am of the opinion that, good notes go a long way in helping the students prepare for their exams efficiently, because 60 percent of students stick to the policy of “Note down now, Study later”. The teacher should always try to keep below average students in mind while making notes. Teaching in such a manner would work wonders to build up confidence of the students and inculcate interest in the subject. How different are the students of the present generation from the students of your generation. It cannot be compared like that because times are changing, and there definitely is a generation gap. But one thing I would like to mention is about the respect students showed for their teachers in our time.
Students, now are preoccupied with academic interests. The interaction between teachers and students is virtually minimal. In my opinion students should love their parent department in the same way they love their parents.
Prof.

Sydulu,
Dean
Research & Consultancy (B.Tech-NITW,1978) What are your opinions regarding our initiative to bring out the Electrical department newsletter, SPARK? I believe it is a novel idea to keep the students updated with the information regarding upcoming events. Since all information is not consolidated in one place, updating new developments will help everyone. It will also help in getting to know the ELECTRICAL family better.
Each person has a responsibility to the school and college which made him what he is now…
What was the inspiration behind you taking up the teaching profession rather than a corporate job, like most of your colleagues? My interest in teaching was born when I was in my intermediate & was asked to teach a junior class. I was also good at helping my friends with academics in college. I recollect being told by one of my friends in my third year that I would become a teacher in this institute. Also I knew that I am good at reaching out to people. What should be the alumni’s role towards the development of his alma mater? The alumni have responsibility
towards their parent department. Each person is responsible not only to his college, but also to the schools he/she studied in. Think of all that you gained from the institute, and then what you have given back. If the alumni help the institute, then all departments will be self sufficient. It would also offer the present crop of students, a valuable opportunity to interact with the industry. One does feel a sense of satisfaction to serve the parent department. What kind of conduct do you envisage from the students ,as the Dean of Research and Consultancy? I expect the present crop of students to make the best of the opportunities that come their way & fully utilize the facilities provided by the institute .With the experience of our faculty in consultancy, reputation of college and with Director’s initiatives, I hope to help students further. One last thing I would like to tell all my student friends is to look at the teachers with pride and get inspired to take up challenging tasks to build a wonderful career in near future. Hard work and Prayer are two wings of a successful bird.

Internship Experience at Goldman Sachs The months of May & June 09 perhaps constituted the best (indeed in all aspects) summer vacation I ever had. Thanks to Goldman Sachs which gifted me with this apposite internship in its office at Bangalore. It was like a dream come true and it took time for this feeling to seep in. The novel system developed by engineers at the Georgia Institute of Technology allows individuals with disabilities to operate a computer, control a powered wheelchair and interact with their environments simply by moving their tongues. Maysam Ghovanloo, an assistant professor in the Georgia Tech School of Electrical and Computer Engineering has developed GS has a huge technology infrastructure and it uses it for all the colossal the tongue-operated assistive technology, called the Tongue Drive system. Electrifying EEE
On behalf of the entire team of SPARK,I would like to extend my sincere gratitude to all the faculty members of our Department who have been extremely supportive in this unique endeavour of ours. The basic idea of SPARK is to inculcate the feeling of attachment towards EEE. The students actually have a forum to voice their opinions and give constructive suggestions towards the growth of the department. This is an initiative ‘Of the Students’ carried out ‘For the Students’ ‘By the Students’. So suggestions regarding improving SPARK are always welcome. A lot of effort has gone into making SPARK so lets hope it is able to fulfil its purpose. Vaatsal Tandon (Editor,SPARK) Team SPARK: G.Srinivas (Editor,SPARK)
