“The faith-filled parishioners of Saint Joseph Catholic Church of Arma, in union with the Blessed Trinity of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit, value tradition and prayer. We are committed to strong leadership, responsive community service, and forming caring, welcoming, intimate relationships with our fellow brothers and sisters. We seek to become a more diverse, vibrant, active church family.” Notes from the Pastor: Holy Week is one of the greatest blessings God has poured on us! It is a great
opportunity to praise and worship God as we recognize His great love for us. “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten son…” John 3:16 This week connects us to the feast of all feasts: the Resurrection of Our Lord. I always believe and says, that if Jesus did not rise from the dead our faith will be in vain, and Christianity would be a dead religion. But Jesus is alive. However, before His resurrection, He suffered and died! Holy Week affords us this opportunity to reflect on our Lord’s suffering and death, so that we will be able to authentically celebrated Easter! If you have not yet done so, I am encouraging all of you to attend the Easter Vigil mass. Liturgical laws mandated that it should be celebrated at dusk and not earlier than 8PM. This mass is twice longer than normal because it includes two more parts: the blessing of fire and the blessing of water. It also includes the reception of the sacraments of baptism, confirmation, and communion of our RCIA candidates and catechumens. Though it is long, the liturgy is so rich in symbols and meanings! I hope you will experience it! Kindly look below for our complete Lenten Schedule both for Girard and Arma. If you have not heard it yet, we are happy to know that Father Emil Kapaun, a priest of the Diocese of Wichita who died a hero in 1951 during the Korean War, will posthumously receive the Medal of Honor in April 11. The White House made the announcement on Monday, March 11. Bishop Michael O. Jackels and Father John Hotze will travel to Washington, D.C., to be with Ray Kapaun, Father Kapaun’s nephew, who will accept the award from President Barack Obama for Father Kapaun’s conspicuous gallantry. A ceremony at the Pentagon will follow on April 12. This posthumous award is just one of the proof of Father Kapaun’s saintly life and hopefully will help in the advancement of his cause to sainthood. Fr. Kappaun, pray for us! For more information on the life of Fr. Kappaun, you may access the diocesan website http:// catholicdioceseofwichita.org/, click on Faith and Prayer menu and you will see a link “Fr. Kappaun’s cause.

Saturday Sunday

Holy Week and the Passion of Our Lord Starting this weekend, we enter the most solemn week of the Church’s year Last Week July 2012 to date when Jesus began His final preparations for our redemption. We gain special Contributions $1,215.00 $52,974.48 graces through our participation. These liturgies are so sacred that the Church has not labeled them Holy Days of Obligation. They assume if Christ means anyExpenses $45,307.36 thing to us, we’ll be present as often as we can. On this Palm Sunday, to mark Over/ (Under) $7,667.12 Jesus’ triumphal entry into Jerusalem, we receive the blessed palms as a sacramental for our homes, reminding us that our triumphal entry into Heaven will Saint Joseph’s Upcoming Events have to come through the Cross. Theologians say that Jesus didn’t have to suffer such a terrible death on the cross, but a simple act of apologizing for the sins of Eucharistic Adoration: Thursdays from 8:30am to 3:00pm mankind, would have atoned for human sins. However, Jesus chose to live a fully human life with its joys and sufferings. Finance Council Parish Council The Chrism Mass is usually held on the Tuesday of Holy Week, where the oils Next Meeting, April 9th Next Meeting, April 2nd are blessed for use during the church year. This is the night of the Last Supper, the First Debbie Amershek Mass that Jesus ever celebrated for us and with His Apostles. Of all of Christ’s Secretary Karen Pryer miracles, this was the greatest. He would remain with us in this way. This night also focuses on the Chair Karen Pryer Chair Fred Bogina E.M.Es Joann Black Members Bill Harman, humility of Jesus, washing the feet of the apostles and saying, “Love one anothUshers/Greeters Bill Harman Judy Wingebach, er”, and if you do, you should serve one another.
