For Information about the—
Sacrament of Baptism
Baptismal Preparation for parents and godparents: 7 – 8:30 pm the last Monday of the month. Call for Reservations. Baptisms are usually the first Sunday of the month.

Anointing of the Sick
Please notify us (355.1292) as early as possible for the Anointing of the Sick, the sacrament intended for the seriously ill or dying. It is Our Lord’s special presence and companionship in serious time of need. Anointing may take place in the home, at the hospital or elsewhere and as often as once a month. If someone should die without anointing, remember that the desire to receive is sufficient and the Lord cares!

Sacraments of Reconciliation and first Eucharist

Preparation for children who have attained the age of reason (usually during 2nd grade) is arranged either through the Office of Religious Education or St. Rita Elementary School.

If You Should Experience the Loss of a Loved One
Please call us at 355.1292 If you feel you will be in need, or your loved one has passed, we will assist in making arrangements with your chosen funeral directors; refer you to our liturgy and music directors; and offer you helpful guidelines and a book that will aid in the selection of readings for the Mass or Memorial Service. Areas we can help you with prior to the passing may help in the planning of funeral services. We know that this can be a tough time and we want you to know that your parish is there for you. PLEASE UNDERSTAND we only have one resident priest, sometimes arrangements for another priest may be needed.

Sacrament of Matrimony
Contact the Parish Office upon engagement; at least six months is needed for preparation of this joyous sacrament!

Sacrament of Confirmation

A two-year program for freshman/sophomore age teens. Apply through the Office of Religious Education.

NOTE: Adult applicants for the sacraments should contact the Parish Office.

PASTOR’S CORNER

Dear Parishioners,
In today’s readings we observe Isaiah, Paul, and Peter each caught in a moment of responding to an obvious manifestation of God’s presence and personal intervention in their lives. Isaiah, afraid to speak in the Lord’s name, has his tongue purified by the touch of a heaven-sent burning ember; Paul, declaring himself the most unworthy because he had been a “persecutor of Christians,” is rendered suitable for apostleship by “God’s abiding grace within,”; and Peter, likewise admitting he is such a sinful man that Jesus should depart from him, is nevertheless enabled by Jesus’ words of encouragement to step away from fear, put everything down, and follow Him. I am just sure that, if not with all three, each of us can at least identify with one of the personal encounters with the Lord described in today’s Liturgy of the Word. Might I not consider myself, at one time or another, “a person of unclean lips?” Are there not times when I, like Paul, would consider myself the least likely to be called into service of God’s kingdom for my past actions and decisions? Or, like Peter, simply feel compelled to say “depart from me, Lord, for I am a sinful person?” Yet and still, the Lord calls each and every one of us into the service of his mission and kingdom. Be assured that, if not already, today the Lord will require of us some act of kindness, understanding, reaching out, or courage to uphold the truth and maintain faith—in spite of our unworthiness and proclivity to sin. Isaiah, Paul, and Peter all carried on and moved forward in God’s service “for the sake of the Kingdom”— and each did so by reason of “amazing grace.” In all matters of life’s daily challenges, we would do well to recall the experiences and scenarios described in today’s proclamation of the Word. In the face of any challenge “to do the right thing” we should hear Jesus saying to us “Be not afraid!”—“Be not unbelieving, but believing.”

—Msgr. Richard Pastor’s News Notes
Reading Archbishop Gomez’ Letter— I want to thank you dear St. Rita Parishioners and friends for your care, understanding, and support as I presented Archbishop José Gomez’ letter this past weekend. It is a weekend experience of people with pastor that will remain with me the rest of my days. I made the decision to celebrate all of the Masses this past weekend and I know it was the right one; we were together receiving a hard message, but we received it within the hearing of God’s Word and praying the Eucharistic Prayer—the most perfect prayer! I felt the grace of that and I am sure you did too. After one of the Sunday Masses, amazingly, a gentleman came up to me and said, “This is the first Catholic Mass I have ever attended. How do I inquire about becoming Catholic?” Of all the possible reactions to the news shared this past weekend, you can believe I didn’t see that one coming! Can we all get a “God works in strange ways”? Once again, thank you for your constancy in faith and your understanding of what it means to be Church and to be a member of the Body of Christ. I am most grateful to Our Lord to be your pastor.

—Msgr. Richard
