Anointing of the Sick Please notify us (355.1292) as early as possible for the Anointing of the Sick, the sacrament intended for the seriously ill or dying. It is Our Lord’s special presence and companionship in serious time of need. Anointing may take place in the home, at the hospital or elsewhere and as often as once a month. If someone should die  without anointing, remember that the desire to receive is sufficient and the Lord cares!

If You Should Experience the Loss of a Loved One Please call us at 355.1292 If you feel you will be in need, or your loved one has passed, we will assist in making arrangements with your chosen funeral directors; refer you to our liturgy and music directors; and offer you helpful guidelines and a book that will aid in the selection of readings for the Mass or Memorial Service. Areas we can help you with prior to the passing may help in the planning of funeral services. We know that this can be a tough time and we want you to know that your parish is there for you. PLEASE UNDERSTAND we only have one resident priest, sometimes arrangements for another priest may be needed.

REV. MSGR. RICHARD KREKELBERG

PASTOR’S CORNER

PENTECOST 2013 Come Holy Spirit! Fill the Hearts of Your Faithful!

Dear Parishioners,  This year as we celebrate what many refer to as “The Birthday of The Church,” we have administered the initiation sacraments of Baptism, First Reconciliation, Confirmation and First Eucharist to well over one hundred young and also adult members of our parish.  And with a new Holy Father in the Vatican, it does have the feel of Springtime in the Church local and Universal. During 2012, as a particular faith community, we embarked upon a new consciousness and spirit of stewardship; in other words, in “The Year of Faith,” we of St. Rita Parish embraced the New Evangelization with high purpose and intent to “be church.” These, then, are very important days for St. Rita Parish to pray for the help and advocacy of the Holy Spirit to lead and guide us as a parish that  wills to be strong and vital to the mission of Jesus going forward. Also important is our prayer that we may be ever conscious of being linked as the Body of Christ to all of the parishes that make up our Deanery, our Pastoral Region of San Gabriel, and to the Universal Church.  We also celebrate The Solemnity of Pentecost 2013 on the Feast Day Weekend of our beloved Saint Rita of Cascia. We make all of our prayers to The Holy Trinity through her intercession—she who was wife, mother, and vowed religious. If we model our lives on hers, we stand to receive a wonderful encouragement for our continuance as a community desirous of only the Peace that Christ can offer us. Like her we seek, by indwelling of God’s Most Holy Spirit, to live in Holy Communion with the One that IS our Communion. Mary, Queen of Peace, Pray for Us! Saint Rita of Cascia, Saint of the Impossible, Pray for Us!

And this Pentecost, Happy Birthday to Us, Church Local and Universal!

Welcome to All Pilgrims and Visitors  Who Come this Feast Day Week  To Honor Our Patroness, St. Rita of Cascia!  Welcome once again to our brothers and sisters of the Pacific Islands— and to the Armenian Catholic and Orthodox Communities.  We Make Your Special Prayers Our Prayers As Well.

 —Msgr. Richard

Have you ever had moments when your heart was deeply burdened but you didn’t know how to pray?  At such moments, the Church comes to our aid, and, drawing from her rich prayer tradition shaped by Scripture itself, we are given words for the deepest desires of the human heart. This is the prayer of the Church, which we offer together at Evening Prayer.

Safeguard the Children Cell phones with photographic capability are a great blessing, but they can be misused as well. Have a healthy suspicion of anyone using a cell phone in an awkward or suspicious way. Be especially cognizant of any cell phone use in areas where people could be in various states of undress, or where children are gathered. If you see someone using a cell phone in a manner that appears to be suspicious, don’t be afraid to ask what he or she is doing, or to alert someone in a position of authority about your concerns. For the complete VIRTUS article, “Taking a Closer Look at Cell Phone Video Voyeurism,” e-mail [email protected] Office of Safeguard the Children la-archdiocese.org/org/protecting/safeguard
