Student Workpoint 1.12 - Business investigation 1: British School Quito  USP: A British school with all foreign teachers with English as their native language, most teachers are from the UK. Every student does the IB. It is a small school, a prestige school.  SWOT: Strength: It is a unique school with English native teachers with the strongest IB in Ecuador. Every student is able to communicate in English, reading/writing and speaking. Weakness: It is a really expensive school and so there aren’t many students. Being a foreign school from the UK, teachers change every 2-3 years depending on the contract. Opportunities: The school gets to be involved with many outside groups and organizations, which help the students increase their knowledge. Students have the opportunity to do the IB and be able to study abroad. Threats: Other schools are bigger and more popular within the Ecuadorian public and so the school looses its popularity. They are also cheaper and still prestige from public schools in Ecuador. The school being very reserved, having a small quantity of students, could lead to a closing of the school in future generations. The government has implied many rules that differ from the ones the school already has.  Core competence: The school needs to be able to achieve “competitive advantage” to have good quality education, which stands out from the other schools, this is the IB program. Mission Statement: The British School Quito is committed to bring in the best possible quality education in Ecuador for its students, offering top qualified foreign teachers and textbooks to be able to prepare each student for the IB program. 2. Gibson  USP: Gibson is a unique guitar-selling brand with different designs, and are famous for its unique sound and quality. Many professional guitar players prefer Gibson. They have the Les Paul designs, which are famous all over the world.  SWOT: Strength: unique guitars and sound made from the best quality and each guitar with a different range of models. Weakness: the price range is really high; most guitars are well above one grand. Opportunities: they get to work with professional guitar players and use them as a sponsorship. Threats: there are other guitar brands, which are very good and much affordable than Gibson.  Core competence: To achieve a competitive advantage they have to state that they are the worlds best guitar brand and that they have top sound quality compared to the other brands. They have to state why their price range is so high. Mission Statement: To expand our brand with professional guitar players and to prove that we are the best guitar company by providing our costumers the best possible guitar quality and sound demonstrating why it is worthy to pay such a price for our guitars
