Digital technology from as to A2 work, examples and impact. What you are what you are trying to achieve for your audiences and why how did digital technology help?

When I first started my AS Media course I had no previous experiences with any of the software the school had. First we were asked to make a condense ad front cover page for a school magazine using Photoshop, this primarily task was harder than I thought. Being new to all these devises I had no clue what I was meant to do and how I could do it. However being very familiar with a magazine layout I did have some experiences with this. Luckily enough there were YouTube tutorials and also people in my class who were experienced with these tools to help me. The first task I did not perform to my best ability as there were some things I just could not do, due to the timings and complexity of it. Moving on from my basic preliminary task we then had to gather research and planning, for this the school had provided us with a list of new ways in which we could all present our work online, visually, such as prezzie, slide share, prezzie, vocki, slide rokit and many others which took work and made it more visual to look at and read. These were pretty easy to get the hang of and use as they were online ad requite not much trouble to learn, it was mainly just doing work on power point or word and then just converting it to a uploader. I still use these online ways to present my work onto my blog in my AS coursework as they are useful and make my work more interesting to read. The last online publication would be blogger which was just where all our work would be put up on, a simple blog, which at first was hard to get your heard around with adding tags, and designs but once taught we could easily replicate this system. These publications have helped develop my work in presenting them to the highest of standards I can achieve, my progress throughout these two years have further strengthened my ability in my written work as well as my presentation work to make them as neat and as clean as they can be.

Moving on to the actual finish copy of my work, we also had industry standard software’s such as InDesign and adobe premiere pro which real magazines use to create their own. As we were making up one, our teachers wanted us to have the best experiences with them as though we were really publishing one. All of us were told to use InDesign, a software none were family to, it was really tricky at first to understand it as it was different to Photoshop but some elements were similar. Again by using the mass media of YouTube, I found out how to do many things which I ever knew you could. Previously only using Gimp to edit my magazine draft as I was most comfortable with, it had been a big step out of the basic software’s to the industry ones which showed how quickly and easily I could adapt my previous knowledge to a new format. By the end of my AS course I had mastered InDesign and managed to produce a very professionals looking magazine which I am still proud of. These new technologies are highly important in any production making, as the right ones are crucial in them looking amateur to professional. Leaning so my any new skills in the progress of playing around with InDesign for so long implants it in your memory so you now

have these skills for life. It has helped me achieve a real life magazine in which my audience will find to be real looking and believe it is like Kerrang! This was my main achievement in being s inspired by this magazine I had taken little elements out and put them into my own, developing my own ideas and thoughts, the impact was great as my audience feedback proved to show they loved it. Once finishing I used an online magazine publication called Issue which lets you post PSD filed online in a magazine format. It was all put together as an electronic magazine where the pages would flick online and you could zoom in to every part. This was another brilliant online publication in which young independent editors use to publish their own work. Moving onto my A2 coursework which was a lot harder than the AS, making a real music video. I had chosen to do this because I have a clear link between my two pieces of work, LIVE PEFORMANCED BANDS. I know what I’m good at and I stuck to that, as previously getting hold of a real band The Ocean’s Eyes, I planned to use them again for a music video, however due to the sad news of their breakup this could no longer happen. Despite that letdown it didn’t dim my thoughts as I went on the hunt again, determined to find a band, I was lucky enough to come across one I had previous seen a year ago, as I knew they would be up for it, I asked them to get a positive response. Alone Tonight agreed for me to come on a few dates of their tour to film a music video, giving me all access all areas to get all the shots I needed. It was here where my camera work would be most at use and critical as I only had one time to get these shots right. Doing a live tour diary style music video, you didn’t know what to expect or what was going to happen so despite my original plans I couldn’t stick to them if something else was to happen, making me have to run around, keeping my shots in perfect focus. The complexed technology of the cannon 550d DSLR which the school had provided for our AS course as well as A2 came very handy. Again having no expirees with cameras of this high quality I was just used to clicking a button and taking a photo, however when I held ones of these there was so much more to it than a snap. First I began to experience it for myself, as playing around with the settings. One of my friends was actually an independent photographer so I asked him for a lot of help which I found useful. First using the camera for my AS work to take pictures of the band I found it to be relatively easy, keeping the settings on auto as I wasn’t quite sure what to do, the pictures came out better than I had expected. With the great zoom lens, high aperture and normal lese I experimented with these all to get the best quality pictures I could get. My first attempt at a gig was hard as I had troubles with changing the lenses and it was my first experience, however I got help from other photographers along the way learning new tricks to the camera. He then told me how to change the expose, IOS, shutter speed and aperture for different affects and how flash ruins pictures, I kept these all in mind whilst taking my AS pictures which proved to be a great help. Looking back now from my AS I can see how the knowledge of using a camera has helped me improve and learn new things along the way when it came to filming my actual music video. I used these old techniques and applied new ones in order to improve my pictures. For example before I would just use auto and not think much about where I was positioned

what was in the shot, how I would think about this more than anything using manual settings, adjusting each one along the way along with the IOS to get a perfect quality picture, also learning that the aperture lens proved to be the best. I filmed my whole music video my hand as I thought this would add to the whole tour diary feel and not make it look as sharp and staged. Technologies have helped me to just make my work look finished and professional as it can be, using another fish eye lens to this work, I had mixed everything up in order to widen my skills that I had previously learnt. The impact of using these cameras were great as they looked as good as the ones you would see in an actual music video. Along with this we also had to edit our video on adobe premiere pro cs6, which was the hardest part, I didn’t really get the full hang of it to begin with, the basics were alright as they were the same as movie maker to cut up parts of the footage. Using YouTube as a main source, I gained the experiences and techniques I needed to apply to my music video, such as fading it out into black in the ending, overlay two pieces of footage by decreasing the opacity, colour correction, adjusting the sound levels and adding in some diegetic sound that fades towards the end. All of these things I wouldn’t have been able to do without practice, tutorials and experience. Because of all of this my music video, magazine, digipack and magazine poster have all appealed directly to my audience, targeting them at a specialised audiences of rock/ punk lovers, giving them a real incite and feel to this genre. In my two years of experiences I have come a far way to where I has started which was knowing nothing about industry style software and can now say that I am ready and adapted to learn many new ones as well as apply my old skills to ay task.
