Theatre for a New Audience, an award-winning Off-Broadway LORT D classical theatre company, seeks an experienced Technical Supervisor. TS will work closely with Artistic Director and General Manager to oversee the load-in and set up of the theatrical systems and ensure the readiness of the Theatre to open its new 299seat flexible and versatile performance space in Brooklyn, NY in the summer and fall of 2013 and will be responsible for delivering high-quality production values within authorized schedules/budgets. Responsibilities include: - Overall responsibility for all technical staff and theatrical activity within the theatre and adjacent technical spaces and facilities. This includes on-site work with construction and vendor installation crews during the construction and commissioning phase and implementing the installation and testing of purchased technical equipment in conjunction with Theatre consultants. - Maintain, inspect, and repair all theatrical systems and supplies, including, but not limited to theatrical lighting, theatrical sound/video/communications, flexible platforming system, soft goods, stage rigging, wardrobe, etc. - Receive and disseminate pertinent technical data and information to producers and in-house production staff. - Oversee all aspects of production, along with production’s Production Manager (both for rentals and in-house productions/events) from initial designs through final performance and load-out, ensuring all issues are addressed. - Assist in providing Production Manager with practical and logistical solutions to mount productions to ensure projects of all scales can be delivered successfully within in our Theater. - Recruit, manage and train team of staff working from stage, rigging, lighting, wardrobe and sound disciplines. - Develop, implement and maintain policies to ensure safe work practices in the backstage and stage areas. - Manage technical operation budgets including time, labor and cost estimates for all theatrical systems. - Be principal point of contact for plans and discussions relating to Theatre’s future theatrical improvements, contributing to the strategy for upgrading and renovating the theatre environment and infrastructure. - Develop and maintain theatrical equipment life cycle analysis. Requirements: - Ability to maintain highest standards in service, with strong communication, organizational, leadership and time management skills. - Proven track record of following through, responding flexibly and pragmatically to changing priorities under pressure. - Extensive working knowledge and understanding of theatre staging and stagecraft, rigging, lighting and sound equipment and techniques. Must be able to maintain and service all technical equipment. - Ability to manage multiple complex and conflicting projects under pressure, to budget and within agreed timescales. - Significant experience managing and leading teams of staff with the ability to listen, counsel, give guidance, feedback and delegate, leading by example and setting the highest standards of excellence. - An open mind to new ways of working and a sympathetic approach to people working under pressure in an artistic environment.

A comprehensive knowledge and awareness of Health & Safety legislation and procedures and its implications on both work colleagues and within the stages areas, adhering to and enforcing safe work practices. Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively to a broad range of people across the organization. Ablility to lift and carry heavy scenery, climb ladders and work on the grid; able to work at height using work equipment and a range of floor- based access equipment. Must work long non-traditional hours including nights and weekends. Ability to read and interpret blueprints, drawings and plots. Excellent computer skills including experience of Microsoft Office, Outlook, Vectorworks and CAD drawing packages. At least five years’ experience as technical supervisor in comparable theatrical setting. Experience opening a new theatre space in NYC desired, but not required.

Begins part time in January 2013 and begins full time early May 2013 - competitive salary, plus health benefits. Reports directly to General Manager, who reports to founding/producing Artistic Director.

Ability to lift and carry heavy equipment, climb ladders and work on the grid and the ability to work at heights using work equipment.
