MASTER'S STANDING ORDERS
The
REQUIRE ADDITIONAL PERSONNEL.
-

all the bridge equipment is at your disposal and you should not hesitate to use it as required.
The OOW should familiarise himself with the handling characteristics of the vessel, including the
stopping distances and should appreciate that other vessels have different handling characteristics
- Read , understand and follow all ARAMCO RULE IN MIM`s,SMS, GI`S
- read aramco safety flyers to take the experience from others mistakes.
I- AT ALL DUTIES ;
1- KEEP LISTINING WATCH ON CH. 11 & 16 AND WORKING CHANNELS OF PLANED
DISTINATIONS e.g RAS TANURA,WEST PIER,JUA`YMA , OFF SHORE
INSTALATIONS.....etc.
2- Follow up and update nav. Warnings register it in navigation warning log GMDSS, mark them on
the affected charts, and don’t forget to notify the master and next duty. (e.g. weather, towing
,survey ,diving operations , pipe laying, dredging operations ........etc.)
3- Safety rounds and fire patrols shall be carried out in regular intervals and when required.
4- Call me when you are in doubt, at any time you need me.
5- Be sure that visitors/passengers on board had their safety orientation
and always feeling comfortable on board.
6- Required check lists to be done prior all vessel`s operating mode e.g arrival/departure
/bunkering/500 meter zone..........etc.
7- All crew should wear their P.P.E. as they engaged in cargo /deck maintenance work.
8- No vessel aloud alongside as double bank without master permission.
9- Don’t use vessel crane if you see/or expect that it will lead to unsafe results.
10- Deck cargo should be lashed and secured at all sea state .
11- Log book should be filled properly.
12- Take all measures to protect the environment from pollution by the vessel by complying with all
appropriate pollution regulations.
II- CALL MASTER IMMEDIATLY IN THE FOLLOWING CIRCUMSTANCES:
You should normally call master at master calling points or times determined by the master.but
immediately and not limited to the following circumstances;
a)

If restricted visibility is encountered or expected less than 2 N.M.

b)

If the traffic conditions or movement of other vessels are causing
concern.
If difficulty is being experienced in maintaining a course or speed.

On failure to sight land, a navigational mark or to obtain soundings by
the expected time.
If unexpected land or a navigation mark is sighted or a dramatic
change in the sounding occurs. .
In case of breakdown or other problems to the engines, propulsion .
machinery remote control, steering gear, or any essential navigation

equipment, alarm or indicator
g)
If the radio equipment malfunctions.
h)
Whenever there is a large compass error.
i)
When in adverse weather it is considered that damage may be caused
to the vessel or her cargo by continuing on present course and/or with
present speed
j)
If the vessel meets any hazard to navigation such as suspicious
float objects or derelicts
k)
When any one aspect of his duties demands undivided attention
hampering the attention of other duties.
l)
If a situation in which he is in any doubt arises.
m)
On receipt of distress messages which should be relayed or responded to.
n)
Sickness/ illness, injury, among the crew or passengers.
o)
Wrangle /rowdiness/fight among the crew or passengers.
p)
In any other situation he considers the Master should be aware of.
I would much rather be called in plenty of time and find that I am not required, than be called too
late. ( one hour early better than one minute late )

III -Hand over the watch.
If at the time the OOW is to be relieved a manoeuvre or other action to avoid a hazard is taking place,
then relief of the Officer should be deferred until such action has been completed.
1- The Relieving Officer should not take over the watch until his vision is fully adjusted and that he has
personally satisfied himself of the following:

Standing Orders and other special instructions of the Master relating to the navigation of the vessel.
The position, course, draft, and availability of machinery at the time.
The prevailing and predicted tides, currents, weather, visibility and the effect of these factors upon
the course and speed.
All visible and radar targets condition and CPA are in wide berth from your vessel.
Errors of the gyro and magnetic compasses.
Passage plane , master's / stations call points, under keel clearance and ETA/ETD.
2- The relieving officer shall insure of the following but not limited:
a-The history of previous duty regarding;
- Navigation Warnings received eg. Weather, location of vessels engaged in diving
operations, towing, survey, Cable /pipe laying........
- Vessel equipments & machinery.
- Incidents or near miss if any.
- Cargo/passengers received or delivered.
- Any up normalities occurred in the duty.
3- All bridge equipments in good working condition.
4- If along side Moring ropes gangway in good order and attended all times.
5- All informations regarding cargo operations and ballast operations, done / planed to be done.
6- Properly filled log book.

Important note:
When I am present on the bridge the OOW remains responsible for the navigation of the vessel
unless I specifically state that I am taking over. The OOW may at any time request in normal cases
that I take over the watch in this case the normal hand over procedures shall be applied. (either
way) this is to be recorded in the Deck Log.

SAILING;

1- Passage plane
should be ready approved by master acknowledge by all officers before sailing.
Any change in passage plane while sailing should be approved by master.
All hazards (confined water, pipe lines,nav warnings, must be mentioned in the passage plane
and marked on the affected charts.
Draw courses on all affected charts specially large scale charts.
All courses should be away more than 500 meters from all off shore
structures (plat f./rigs/GOSPS.....etc) if not possible following aramco
regulation regarding passing 500 mtr zone should be mentioned in
the passage plan and followed.
Be sure that all charts is corrected to last chart correction received.
2- Follow rule of the road to avoid collision or even critical close approach from other
targets.
3- Keep wide berth from all targets all times.
4- Priority all times for Sharpe look out don’t busy with paper work or publications
corrections while sailing if necessary call me I'll be happy to take your place.
5- All times Proceed with safe speed taking in account the following but not limited:
traffic density
visibility
under keel clearance &confined area
Reflecting of shore /off shore constructions lights.
Weather and sea state (Current set and drift , wind speed and direction, swell ,waves...etc).
Vessel machinery &equipments respond (eng. ,steering ,autopilot ......etc.)
Stopping distance & turning or altering course speed.
6- Follow ARAMCO RULES regarding the following but not limited;
500 metres safety zone
Under keel clearance above sea bed and above pipe lines.
Permission Call points for enter /departure /approach ports, oil fields, offshore insulations
(rigs,gosps, barges, plat forms .....etc).
7- Be aware of fishing boats give them the way and if possible keep always away from their
host areas.
8- Keep good listening watch with proper vhf channels.
9- the lookout AB in the bridge is important but remember he is only an assistant.
and his exist will not release you from keep Sharpe lookout and carrying all your
watch duties by yourself.

IVAT ANCHORE
a continuous watch will be maintained and the OOW should:
preparing for drop anchor operation must be only inside designated anchorage area and the vessel
is fully stopped at required anchoring position. (keep anchor full secured tell you reach the
required position inside anchorage area).
a)
Determine the vessels position and plot this on the appropriate chart as soon as practical,
checking at sufficiently frequent intervals to confirm that the vessel is
still anchored and not
dragging.
b)
Ensure an efficient lookout is maintained at all times.
c)
Ensure periodic inspection rounds of the vessel are made.
d)
Observe meteorological and tidal conditions and also monitor the sea state.
e)
Notify the Master and undertake all necessary actions if the vessel drags anchor.
f)
Ensure that the state of readiness of the engines and machinery is in accordance with any
instructions.
g)
If the visibility deteriorates, notify the Master and comply with the Regulations for
Prevention of Collision at Sea.
h)
Ensure that the vessel exhibits the appropriate lights and shapes and that appropriate
sound signals are made at all times.
i)

the lookout AB in the bridge is important, BUT he is only assistant. and his exist
will not release you from keep Sharpe lookout and carrying all your watch duties by
yourself.
V- When vessel alongside port /off shore insulation /other vessel:
1- Make sure Gang ways is properly secured in the mean of safe excess and attended by the
watchman all times.
2- Mooring ropes is always checked and properly secured and doubled if required taking in
account:
- changing of vessel draft due to cargo operations .
- present or expected weather condition and current.
3- No vessel allawed alongside as double bank without master permission.
4- All visitors/passengers movement (in/out) should be reported to the bridge registered on visitors log
and they should be provided with adequate safety orientations.
5- Crew movements (in/out) should be reported to the bridge registered in crew log.
6- Security procedures should be carried out in accordance with the vessel security plane.
