Introduction

Cellular phone ± the biggest revolution of technology. Commonly referred to as cell phone, it is a hand-held mobile radiotelephone for use in an area divided into small sections, each with its own short-range transmitter or receiver. It is mainly used as means of communication, and recently it has just become a new canvass of art. Mobile phones have become an integral part of our daily lives. A great number of people are buying them each year and are going along with the trend. The main benefit of them is that they allow people to contact anyone at anytime. (Dauson, 2010). It has made it very easy to communicate and keeping in touch whenever we desire. It has been making big advancements to the operation of business, economy, pharmaceutical industry, politics, and almost all areas. The use of mobile advancements has broadened the scope that real estate firms provide tremendously. Mobile application solve many issue within the pharmaceutical industry: streamlines clinical research and trials, improves patient monitoring, and empowers sales teams. Generally, mobile phones have revolutionized the way we communicate each other. Youth has been greatly affected by evolving mobile technology specifically the students. A big percent of the studying population uses and owns cell phones. It is recently considered a need of students. One very good reason of students availing cell phone is to stay in touch with their parents and peers. Through this hand-held device, parents easily keep track of what their children are doing both inside and outside the school. Another obvious reason is the generation¶s trend today. Youth likes to have

things done instantly nowadays. Especially for the students, a cell phone is a very good means of contact in very urgent purposes.

A. Significance of the Study
Issues on cell phone utilization are very rampant nowadays. The use of cell phone has aggressively aggravated. It went up for the better and it also moved back the worst. Hence, these issues immediate thinking and resolution. One way resolving, or shall we say, at least moving towards it is conducting its research. Have cell phones really help in making our live better? Or perhaps pushed as to the worst?

B. Objectives:
This research paper will attempt to find out the students¶ use of mobile phones considering the different features of their mobile phones. More specifically, answers to the following objectives will be done:

1. Find out the reasons why students use their mobile phones 2. Determine the students¶ extent of use of mobile phones¶ features 3. Find out the students¶ extent of use of mobile phones¶ features by gender and monthly family income. 4. Find out the model/make of mobile phones used by high school by gender and family income.

C. Scope and Limitation of the study
This term paper generally revolves around the use of cellular phones by students. It talks about the benefits and disadvantages cellular phone offers to the lives of the students specifically within the secondary level.

D. Methodology
This research is conducted primarily inside the high school premises of Bukidnon State University. So basically, the information that the researchers gathered are results from conducting a survey for High School students, research in the school library and extensive surfing in the internet.

Discussion

(1) Objective 1- Find out the reasons why students use their mobile phones The researchers observed that majority of the students use their mobile phones for communication. According to our sources, cell phones really help in communicating with others easily and instantly, especially in case of emergencies. Several of the students also stated that mobile phones are good sources of entertainment. This includes the features of music, gaming and picture sharing. Many of the students are using their mobile phones as Ipod which is a music-oriented device. Therefore, listening to music is one of the main reasons why students have their phones with them. Hence the researchers found out that students use their mobile phones mainly for communication and entertainment.

(2) Objective 2- Determine the students¶ extent of use of mobile phones¶ features. The researchers noticed that in a range of 1-5, the area that has the highest average is the feature of sending and receiving messages. This justifies the result of the first objective wherein communication is the main purpose of students¶ cell phone usage. It is also evident in the survey(refer to the appendix) that music is the second most utilized feature of mobile phones. Many of the students rated the category listening to music 5. This, too, confirms the answer to objective 1. Most especially nowadays, students became more interested in music.

Next to music is gaming. According to the respondents, games help them get through idle times. Through mobile phones, games are easy to avail. Next highest average is 3.1 of picture and video taking. This feature is included in the entertainment section. Inferring from this result, pictures and videos taken from mobile phones may be very useful for documentation purposes. Moreover, this process of documentation proves to be easier and faster than using other devices and media. The other way of communicating , calling, is not that highly utilize by students. Perhaps because calling services cost much more than just text messaging. In terms of personal information management, alarm clock is the most useful feature in mobile phones. Anyway, compared to manual alarms in clocks, the efficiency and convenience provided by alarm clocks in mobile phones is much better.

(3) Objective 3- Find out the students¶ extent of use of mobile phones features by gender and monthly family income. Based on the survey conducted, the students¶ extent of use of mobile phones¶ features vary by gender and monthly family income. In terms of gender, the male has proved to be comparative to the female. A greater number of male participants in the survey patronizes calling services, surfing the internet, taking pictures and videos, and listening to music than that of the female. On the contrary, a greater number of female respondents uses the features: gaming and personal information management such as alarm clock and FM Radio. The researchers¶ findings tend to be in contrast as to the expected results. We hypothetically believed that female students are more frequent users of mobile phones.

Nevertheless, this research proved the researches wrong in hypothesis. However, both genders are generally similar in the extent of using mobile phones for text messaging. Speaking of monthly family income, the researchers found out that those who earn Php 16, 000- 25, 000 in range utilizes mobile phones frequently in general. Moreover, respondents belonging to this range spend extensive time in taking pictures and videos, listening to music and playing games. On the other hand, respondents belonging to Php 5, 000- 15, 000 earnings rated highest in sending and receiving messages, and calling. In other words, they are the most number of respondents who are frequent users of mobile phones for communication purposes. Analyzing the results, gender matters in the extent of use of mobile phones features while income do not. Nowadays, almost all the students own a mobile phone regardless of their status. Money has not been an issue for possessing a cell phone anymore. Cell phone offers services and features that are considered yet basic needs. That is why perhaps everyone today owns it.

C. Summary and Conclusion

Mobile phones have become an integral part of our daily lives. More number of people are buying them , especially students. The main benefit of them is that they allow people to contact anyone at any time. There are number of features present in these pocket-sized minicomputers. Still more and more features are added as research is continuously being carried out in a big way in this field ± Mobile phone technology. (Dauson, 2010) Moreover, the

advancement of this technology really helped in the activities of the students. The researchers found out that one very good reason why students go to some extent in using mobile phones is that it lets them stay in touch with people at almost all times. In addition to being practical, having a cell phone can help them easily get in touch in case of an emergency. This extra sense of security and safety that a cell phone provides is probably the key reason that parents consider getting their children a cell phone.

A. Synthesis of the finding/results
From the results of the survey, convenience of communicating is the main reason why students patronize mobile phone technology. Second to this is entertainment which replaces the absence of other heavyweight devices. Understanding the findings of objective 3 and 4, there is really a difference in terms of gender probably because of the unproportional interests and abilities of male and female. In contrast, family income plays a big part in mobile phone technology but

doesn¶t matter in purchasing, anyway. The features of mobile phone, as well as the model or make, doesn¶t really matter whether you are rich or poor. Regardless of the status, any make can be bought since each model offers at least few units that are affordable.

B. Conclusion
This research concludes that security, safety, and convenience are really the main reasons acquiring mobile phones. This study generally argues that cell phone(s) is a necessity.

C. Reflection(s) on synthesized findings and Over-all Insight

The researchers found out that the main reason why people buy cell phone is to have the convenience of communicating. It is true that convenient communication is the number one reason why cell phone has made. Entertainment follows because it makes people entertained and they will bring other entertainment devices. Cell phones today are like all-in-one devices. Women are more careful in using cell phone than men and men like more applications like games and music and more. Before, cell phones look luxurious. If you saw people using cell phone before some people will say ³sosyal´ or ³wow cell phone´. Now, cell phones became a necessity because cell phones now are affordable and easy to use. Anyone can buy cell phones now.

Cell phones became part of our lives. It is like our friend, parent, boyfriend, girlfriend and many more. We know that cell phones has good sides and bad sides. On the good side, Cell phone has many advantages like, calling on a place when there is no telephone, we can bring them anywhere, we can contact people anytime, and many more. On the bad side, Cell phones can be cause conflicts or problem like family problem, couple problem, lying, addiction and many more. Use Cell phone moderately.
