Football season was well under way that Thursday night that Jardyn asked, ³What you two doing this weekend?´ never planning anything in advance Gabe and I replied, ³I don¶t know, what is going on?´ ³Let¶s go to the Mizzou game on Saturday´ ³Alright!´ Growing up with these two and now living with them for the past few months I should have known to expect the unexpected from Jardyn. When agreeing to go and watch the game we had no clue that the game was going to be played in College Station, home of the Texas A&M Aggies, but having already agreed we thought maybe this would be a good weekend for a roadtrip. That night we planned to leave the following morning as soon as I got done with my last class at eleven o¶clock. We would drive down to College Station and meet up with one of Jardyn old friends and stay the night with him to make the trip as inexpensive as possible. The following morning I wake up a little early for my class and pack a few clothes for the trip. Math class seemed to drag on that day, but before I knew it elven o¶clock appeared on the clock. I headed home to find Jardyn and Gabe already had the white mercury mountaineer packed waiting on me. As I hopped in the back seat Jardyn informed us that his friend, Austin new of a small gathering that would be taken place that night starting at ten in the evening that we would be attending. Already being after eleven in the morning and a twelve hour drive ahead of us we were skeptical that we would make it in time. We headed out of Springfield on our long

journey not knowing what the night would hold in store for us. The day was sunny and warm for the middle of September and with the music blaring on the car radio and Jardyn at the wheel we make it through Oklahoma dry desolate landscape in good time. Singing along to songs on the radio and telling jokes we make it into Texas where we made our first and only stop at a small truck stop for fuel and food. Gabe takes over at the wheel and I grab shotgun. We could already tell the temperature rise in the air the four and a half hours south that we had already gone. The four lane interstate soon turned in eight as we neared Dallas right at rush hour, and we came to a standstill in rough hour traffic with the temperature in the eighties and cars bumper to bumper as far as we could see. The crawl through Dallas was long and boring but spirits were high as we left the interstate and headed to the more familiar two lane highway we had grown up with. Passing through the four way stop signs in what appeared to be small ranching towns between Dallas and College Station the excitement for the weekend started to kick in, and we all new that we were in for a good weekend. Austin texted us the address to a mall that we were to meet him at to head to what he had called a small frat gathering. As we entered College Station we see the sign for the mall and a parking lot filled with over six hundred Texas A&M students. We park and meet up with Austin who says we need to go check in to get a seat on the bus that is going to take us to our destination out of town. The buses are late and the crowd of students grows impatience. Austin decided that he will lead a convoy of trucks to the location. Twenty minutes later we are headed down a dusty back country road lined with lifted four wheel drive and the police department directing traffic. After we had parked and walked through an old cow pasture, the three of us looked in amazement at the stage where the rapper Chamillionaire was just coming out on stage. The fraternity had rented a farmers land and paid Chamillonaire to come and

perform a concert. The concert was amazing as hundreds of students packed around the stage bouncing around to the beat of the music. The concert lasted only an hour, and we decided to head in for the night and get some sleep for the big game tomorrow. Austin dropped us off an apartment complex, and we went in and laid on the couch not knowing that the apartment belonged to a six foot four inch two hundred eighty pound tight end for the Aggies. We awoke early in the unfamiliar apartment in time to see Larry leave for his pre-game football warm up and got breakfast a local diner. The sun was hot by the time that we entered the tail gaiting area outside of Kyle Stadium. We ate brats and burgers before we headed in to watch the game between the Missouri Tigers vs. Texas A&M Aggies. The stands where packed with aggie fans as the game got underway. The crowd was like unlike anything that I had heard before. In unison the stadium roared as they yelled chant after chant in support of their team. The tradition that I saw around campus and from the fans was of proudness to be an Aggie Fan. The chants went unheard by the Texas Team as the Tigers gained a two touchdown lead by halftime. The Tigers finished the game strong with a twenty point victory. That was one of my favorite weekends in college and one that I will not be forgetting. The trip home was long and exhausting, but with a Tiger win and good friends it was well worth the twenty plus hours spent driving in the car and less than twenty hours in the great state of Texas. Concerts, tail gaiting, and meeting new people and seeing the different ways of life can be a real eye opening experience. From that day on I still never know what the weekend may have is store for me, but I don¶t think that it could ever match our road trip to Texas. The memories I made that weekend will be talked about between the three of us will last until the day that we pass away.
