By John Schaffner It was symbolic, but impressive none the less. On Thursday, Aug. 30, in a re-creation of the scene as has been depicted by historians, the commander of the Brig Niagara was lowered onto a longboat with the “Don’t Give Up The Ship” flag draped over his shoulders. The commander is a direct descendent of Oliver Hazard Perry, and was rowed by several Niagara crew members to board the USS DeWert, an Oliver Hazard Perry Class frigate docked in Cleveland Harbor. It was an historic transfer of command from the direct descendants of the commander of the U.S. Navy Fleet in the Sep-

tember 1813 Battle of Lake Erie to the commander of a modern U.S. Navy ship. This event was the official opening of a number of ceremonies and activities that will commemorate the bi-centennial of the Sept. 13, 1813, Battle of Lake Erie, the battle that took place about 10 miles north of Port Clinton. The guest speakers for the event included Commander Joseph C. Thomas, the Commanding Officer of the USS DeWert; Rear Admiral Gregory Nosal, Commander Carrier Strike Group Two; Vice Admiral Charles W. Martoglio, Deputy Commander U.S. European Command; US Coast Guard Admiral Mike Parks; and David Zavagno, Chairman of The Perry Group Battle of Lake Erie Bicentennial Committee. In the battle, Perry was forced to transfer his flag through a hail of enemy fire from his flagship, Lawrence, to the other brig in his command, Niagara. That singular event has been depicted in many pieces of artwork, including the mural in the stairwell at the Ottawa County Courthouse as well as in a painting that hangs on the wall in the Victory Bar at The Island House. A committee, headed up by former Port Clinton Mayor Debbie Hymore-Tester, is meeting to plan the city’s activities to welcome one of 16 Tall Ships from the Great Lakes for the celebration over Labor Day weekend in 2013.

Ottawa County Commissioners Mark Stahl and Jim Sass pose with the Commander of the USS DeWert following the flag transfer ceremony Thursday in Cleveland Harbor. For a complete schedule of events of the 200th anniversary commemoration of the Skirmish on The Peninsula, which will be observed this month on Sept. 22 and 23 at several locations in and around Marblehead, check with the Ottawa County Historical Society at www.thekeepershouse.org.

While guests were touring the US Naval Vessels docked at Cleveland Harbor last Thursday, they were entertained by a practice session of the famed US Navy Precision Flying Team, The Blue Angels.

The full calendar of events commemorating the Battle of Lake Erie Bicentennial, as well as opportunities to get involved, can be found at www.battleoflakeeriebicentennial. com. To learn more about the U.S. Navy’s participation in the Celebration of the Bicentennial of the War of 1812, visit www.ourflagwasstillthere.org.

The descendents of Commodore Perry are joined on the fantail of the USS DeWert by two Navy Admirals along with several sailors who were also honored on Thursday for their part in the ceremony.

Ohio voters to receive absentee applications by mail
Ohio Secretary of State Jon Husted has announced that this week more than six million applications to vote absentee in the upcoming Presidential Election will be mailed to Ohio voters, arriving in mailboxes shortly after Labor Day. “This mailing represents an unprecedented move toward uniformity, accessibility and fairness in Ohio’s elections process,” Secretary Husted said. “For the first time voters in all 88 counties will receive an application to vote by mail – turning their kitchen table into a voting booth.” Voters need only to complete the personalized absentee ballot application by providing valid identification, date of birth and signature, and mail it back. Their ballot will then be mailed to them. National elections experts have noted that Ohio is the only state in the nation to send out absentee ballot applications to all registered voters, other than those states which vote exclusively by mail (currently Washington and Oregon). Voters must complete and mail in their application by noon on Saturday, November 3, 2012. If they change their mind and go to the polls after having requested an absentee ballot, they will have to vote provisionally. For more information about the 2012 election, visit www.MyOhioVote.com.

essence delaying if not putting a stop to the hopes of development of Waterworks Park. THIS IS IN DIRECT CONFLICT TO WHAT THE VOTERS OF PORT CLINTON REQUESTED DURING THE REFERENDUM VOTE NEARLY FIVE YEARS AGO. Unfortunately, these Council members are only hearing from the anti-development fringe in the City of Port Clinton. I need your help in making it VERY clear to these Council members that the anti-development fringe are the minority of the interested parties in this community (essentially reminding these Council members of the outcome of the referendum vote from five years ago.) Look at the areas around Port Clinton – every political subdivision is moving forward – Portage Township is experiencing growth, Catawba Township, the Marblehead area, downtown Sandusky, Perkins Township, Huron, Vermilion are all doing the same … yet far too many of Port Clinton’s leaders are not willing to take the necessary steps needed to put Port Clinton on the right path! Yes, there are small steps being taken in help turn around PC. Entrepreneurs like Bill VanDergeissen and his establishments 1812 & Rosie’s; Amy Slater-West and the Madison Street Pub with Wednesday night Jazz; Bill Yuhaz and the Great Lakes Popcorn, Kokomo Bay, Mango Mama’s complex and Comedy Night and even my boss Ron Miller and the Listening Room which brings up-and-coming Nashville artists to Port Clinton. However, they are doing what they can with relatively limited resources available to them. It’s up to the City leaders to create the atmosphere of success like has been seen all around us. TABELING this ordinance is not creating this atmosphere it telling the world just the opposite! We ALL (resident or 2nd home owners) have a vested interest in seeing Port Clinton thrive and there is no doubt in my mind that Waterworks Park will play a vital role in the future success of PC. Please contact these council members and express your desire to move forward with the development of Waterworks Park. So, where is Mayor Leone on this issue? He’s stated he’ll do what Council directs him to do. However, unlike the recent creation of a Revitalization District in downtown Port Clinton he’s not shared his thoughts on the City/JMBM partnership publically. There is a Planning and Development Committee Meeting slated for 5:30 PM on Tuesday, September 4th at City Hall. All committee meetings are public and I would ask you to attend or at least share your thoughts with Council before the meeting on this matter. I can assure you the anti-development fringe will be doing their part in full force! Again, please contact these Council members and if you choose Mayor Vince Leone to let them know your thought. Members of Council that voted to TABLE the JMBM Ordinance are: Randy Lipstraw – Ward 3 [email protected] 419-573-9049 Ron Aukerman – Ward 1 [email protected] Cole Hatfield – Council-at-Large [email protected] 419-734-9718 Kathy Mehl – Ward 4 [email protected] 419-376-6581 Vince Leone – Mayor [email protected] 419-734-5522 x 8 I may also be reached for comment – 419732-1111 (office)

Waterworks Park development
I need your help – more specifically Port Clinton needs your help! I believe you all know the multi-year history associated with the City attempts to develop the area along the lake and river known as Waterworks Park. The initial attempt was successful in overcoming a referendum organized by a handful of citizens determined to stop any development. However, the delaying tactic of this anti-development fringe resulted in the developer backing out of the deal. Honestly, who could blame the developer for backing out? Time is money and if the signals coming from PC are delay and stall with the message received as money lost. Most recently the Planning and Development Committee of PC Council recommended to the full City Council the passage of an ordinance directing the Mayor to enter in to an agreement with a California company (JMBM) to seek RFQs (Request for Qualification) from prospective developers of the Waterworks Park site. RFQ are merely a notice to the world that PC is interested in your qualifications to potentially develop Waterworks Park. JMBM is a global organization responsible for tens of billions of dollars of development on nearly every continent. In other words they have the resources and connections to make things happen. This past Tuesday evening Council heard the 2nd of three readings on that proposed Ordinance. If passed by a majority of council (4 of 7 yes votes) the Mayor would be given the authority to contract with JMBM and JMBM would perform as proscribed in their scope of services (i.e. contract to seek out prospective developers.) However, Randy Lipstraw (Ward 3 Councilman) made a motion to TABLE this ordinance. Three other Council members agreed with Lipstraw – Ron Aukerman, Cole Hatfield, Kathy Mehl – in

Thank you from Friends of the Cemetery
The Port Clinton Friends of the Cemetery want to extend a huge thank you to everyone who responded to our yearly fundraising letter. Also, many thanks to the Ottawa County Community Foundation and the Stenson Fund for again finding us worthy to receive grant monies. Special thanks to Cuevas Construction for the beautiful job on the curbs at the entrance of Riverview Cemetery. Thank you to the city workers for your logistical thinking and placement of the trash receptacle bases throughout both cemeteries. The actual trash receptacles should be in place by year end. Thank you Elaine Heise and Port Clinton Glass for your contributions and help with issues at the mausoleum. Thank you John Kozlok for planting all the flowers in the many empty urns at Lakeview Cemetery and for keeping them watered during a very dry summer. Also special thanks to John Kozlok and Dave McDougall who quietly go about taking care of the many veterans graves within our cemeteries. This is a never ending job but very much appreciated. Thank you Mr. Peters of Peters Aluminum for a fine job of installing new gutters at the mausoleum and to Mr. Tom Oberle of Seaway Building Services for overseeing the painting of the inside of the mausoleum. And finally I want to extend a very special thank you to Elva Cortez, Joan Hurrell, Sandra Koch, Mary Mills and Maria Moon who are the backbone members of the Friends of the Cemetery and never waiver in their dedication to the betterment of our cemeteries by always going the extra mile to get things done. With much gratitude, Dana Alvarez President, Port Clinton Friends of the  Cemetery

Recycling in Marblehead
BY VICKI KOZAK The village of Marblehead is always trying to buy green. Some of the areas that we have been addressing have been the parks and beautification areas plus some amenities for all of you to use. The township has a recycle station at the Danbury complex where you can take your empty glass, plastic, aluminum and tin containers. You can also drop off cardboard, magazines and newspapers. In the fall large paper bags are available to be used for leaves, and can be put at the curb for the maintenance crew to pick up. At Christmas time, live trees can also be left at the curb for pick up. Over the last several years, grants have been received from the OSS (Ottawa, Sandusky and Seneca counties) Joint Solid Waste Management District. Through them, Marblehead is able to operate the leaf pick-up program, to buy cribbing (stackable support for vehicles after an accident or to stabilize structures damaged by fire) for the fire department, and for benches for the parks and fencing for the cemetery. Two of the benches were purchased from Barco’s and are made of recycled aluminum. One bench is located across the street from the Village Hall and the other will soon be placed at Radar Park overlooking the flowers surrounding the flag pole. One other love seat bench will be placed on the east side of the large pine tree next to the shelter in James Park. This bench was purchased from Jack’s Amish Country Konnection in Fremont and is constructed from recycled plastic milk jugs. The fencing for the cemetery will replace the current chain link fence. Fremont Fence is the supplier and with the help of Bryan Lucas, maintenance manager, and his crew, a new recycled aluminum fence and gate will be installed. This project is a 50% matching grant. Also, work has been done to the previously-owned Gresh property across from the village cemetery. New grass and a gravel parking lot have been added. Soon there will be benches for rest and a relaxing view of Lake Erie and its islands.

Republican Women’s Club Fall Event
Joyce Murphy, President of the Ottawa County Republican Women’s Club, announces that on the evening of Monday, Sept. 17, the Republican Women’s Club will have their Fall Event at the Port Clinton Elks Club. No membership requirements are needed to attend; all are welcome, including men and younger voters. The event will commence at 5:30 p.m. with snacks and hors d’oeuvres to enjoy while welcoming and conversing with elected officials, candidates and friends. There will be a cash bar. At 6:30 p.m. the Speakers Time will start. Conservative Congressman Jim Jordan of the 4th Congressional District will start the group off. Jordan was first elected to the Ohio General Assembly in 1994. After serving in the Ohio House and Senate, he was elected to the U.S. House of Representative in 2006, where he continues to serve. Over time the Congressman developed a “filter” question which he feels helps him make his decisions--”Will this decision benefit families?” He believes that low taxes, limited government spending and more money in the hands of families and business owners is the best way to keep America strong. Jim, his wife and four children live in Urbana. Invitations have and are being made to other elected officials and candidates to attend. Reservations may be made by sending your check for $20 per person payable to Pam Fredrick, Treasurer, OCRW, 133 E Main St., Oak Harbor, OH 43449. For further information, call Pam at 419-898-1387 or Joyce Murphy 419-734-3459. Reservations are encouraged, but walk-ins will be accepted. The Women’s Club in Port Clinton lined Perry Street and a portion of Fremont Road for the Labor Day weekend with 250 American flags in thankfulness for our country and those who serve in so many ways here and abroad.

Composed of more than 100 student and community singers from across five counties in Northwest Ohio, membership ranges from high school students to adults. TCS is conducted by Michael Shirtz and accompanied by the college’s Chamber Arts Orchestra. The group also collaborates annually in performances with regional arts organizations and schools. The chorus has performed with such artists as Joyce Carolyn, C. Andrew Blosser, Elizabeth Von Trapp and Jane Eaglen, and appears annually with the Firelands Symphony. Since 2002, TCS has performed masterworks by Faure, Brahms, Mozart and Handel, tribute concerts to Aaron Copland, Leonard Bernstein, the stage and screen, and annual large-scale productions paying tribute to America’s veterans. In May, TCS performed at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., as part of the nation’s Memorial Day Choral Festival. TCS’s 2012-2013 season includes concerts of their annual Holiday Festival “Spirit of the Season” in December, a performance of Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony “Joyful, Joyful” in February with the Firelands Symphony Orchestra, and concludes in April with a concert of masterworks titled “Music That Changed the World!” In November, the TCS will present a special concert for the inauguration of Terra’s new president and paying tribute to America’s servicemen and women, titled “Service, Honor and Dedication.” The mission of TCS is to promote cultural enrichment through choral music, with educational and performance opportunities for college students and community singers. This fall TCS supports the development of the new Terra State Children’s Choir. New members are welcomed and encouraged to join. The TCS first rehearsal begins Sept. 4 at 6:30 p.m. n the Recital Hall in the Marsha S. Bordner Arts and Health Technologies Center (Building D) at Terra. EHOVE teaches how things tick
Are  you  the  type  of  person  who  wants  to know how things work?  Are you always  taking things apart and fixing them?  Not  afraid to get dirty or work up a sweat and  take  pride  in  your  work?   A  career  in  industrial trades might be a good fit for you.    Enrollment is open now for EHOVE Adult  Career Center’s Industrial Technician program.    If  you  or  someone  you  know  is  interested,  please  register  now  by  calling  (419) 499-4663 x280.  More information is  also available at www.EHOVE.net.   EHOVE’s  full-time  Industrial  Technician  program  will  immerse  you  into  the  world of maintaining critical manufacturing plants and systems.  An integrated education in fluid power, materials handling,  HVAC  systems,  welding  technology,  and  machine  repair  coupled  with  developing  troubleshooting and safety skills will help  prepare  students  for  this  ever-changing  world of industrial maintenance.  “This  program  can  open  the  door  to  many industries and businesses that need  maintenance professionals,” said Adult Ed  Diversified  Industrial  Trades  Coordinator  Doug  Klein. “Many  maintenance  personnel  will  retire  in  the  next  5-10  years  and  their  knowledge  and  skills  will  be  lost.  Companies  are  looking  for  workers  to  learn from them and to keep their factories  running into the future.”  Students in this program will learn how  machines work, how to fix them and how  to  keep  them  from  breaking  in  the  first  place.  Students also learn about the industrial  HVAC  systems,  fluid  and  plumbing  systems,  welding,  mechanical  drive  systems,  preventive  maintenance  and  much  more.  The  Industrial  Technician  program  is  based  on  the  NCCER  curriculum,  which  provides training for most of the systems  found in modern factories.  Instructors for  the  program  are  industry  professionals,  either currently employed or retired from  the trades.  Employment and future job outlook for  students’  careers  looks  promising,  and  all  students will participate in an internship.    “Students will have a 200-hour internship  in  local  industry  learning  how  industry  works, how to fit into the workforce, and  what is expected of them,” said Klein. The  internship  can  also  provide  a  valuable  job  referral  for  the  student.  “Many  of the students from last year’s class were  hired during their internship,” said Klein.    “Companies requested more students than  we  had  available,  and  there  are  currently  jobs going unfilled due to lack of trained  workers.” Industrial Tech graduate Chad Willgrube  of Huron had his internship at J H Routh  Packing Company in Sandusky.  “I am now  employed  by  JH  Routh  Packing,  and  my  internship at EHOVE was a big help,” said  Willgrube.  “All of my training at EHOVE  was  very  valuable,  especially  the  welding  and alignment I learned.  I think this is a  great program and I would definitely recommend  this  program  to  anyone  with  a  passion for mechanics.”    Enrollment  is  open  now  for  EHOVE  Adult  Career  Center’s  Industrial  Technician  program.    If  you  or  someone  you  know is interested, please register now by  calling (419) 499-4663 x280.  More information  is  also  available  at  www.EHOVE. net.

Bassett’s Market Player of the Week
Name: Austin Wiegand School: Oak Harbor Position: Quarterback Height: 6' 2'' Weight: 170 Class: Senior Last week, Austin Wiegand rushed for 129 yards on 22 carries in Oak Harbor's 43-21 loss to Genoa. Weigand gave the Comets fits all night, scrambling and getting out into the open field. Wiegand's ability as a dual threat has allowed the Rockets to open up the playbook a bit this season, as his running ability has created more opportunities for the offense. In fact, Wiegand's play will likely be instrumental in determining how successful Oak Harbor is this season. Last season, Wiegand played wide receiver and defensive back while Brian Mallernee served as the team's quarterback. After Mallernee, who is playing baseball at Ohio Northern University, graduated last spring, Wiegand took over under center. Thus far, he's done a quality job of replacing Mallernee. In Oak Harbor's 63-6 win over Sheffield Brookside in Week 1, Wiegand didn't provide nearly as much offense as running back Mark Konieczny, who carried the ball 15 times for 243 yards and four touchdowns. Wiegand did, however, do some damage through the air, completing 2-of-2 passes for 33 yards and a touchdown. Wiegand, who grew up just outside of Toledo, moved to Oak Harbor in the fourth grade and plans on attending college next year. He's also a well-rounded studentathlete, having earned letters in basketball and track and field, and is a member of DECA. On top of that, he sports sideburns that would make even Elvis Presley jealous. Wiegand is expecting big things from his team in 2012. “I would love to win the conference and make the playoffs,” Wiegand, one of the team's four captains, said. “I've always had high expectations for myself and the team. With 15 seniors and talent across the board, there's no reason we can't make some noise (this season).”

PC falls to Delphos St. John’s, drops to 1-1
BY YANEEK SMITH Port Clinton knew it wasn't going to be easy, and it certainly wasn't. Competing against one of the elite football programs in the state, the Redskins fell, 51-0, to Delphos St. John's on Saturday. It wasn't as bad as the final score would indicate, however. Port Clinton trailed 16-0 at halftime and missed out on an opportunity to score from inside St. John's 10-yard-line at the end of the second quarter. But things changed in the second half as the Blue Jays took control of the contest and outscored the 'Skins, 35-0. In the third and fourth quarters, St. John's depth took over as the Blue Jays were able to consistently substitute players while Port Clinton's squad wore down. “We knew going into the game that it would be tough for us,” Port Clinton head coach Toby Hammond said. “I don't think it was as bad as the score indicated. There were times we played very well and moved the ball. We had a couple of stupid penalties, too. I told the kids, 'We can't turn the ball over.'” The Redskins turned the ball over five times while St. John's had two giveaways. Blue Jays running back Tyler Jettinghoff helped to establish St. John's rushing attack, running 22 times for 282 yards and four touchdowns (44, 4, 47, 32). Port Clinton quarterback Addison Rospert finished 16-for-27 with 147 yards and rushed for 34 yards on four attempts. Chris Stokes had seven catches for 74 yards and Brock Moore finished with five receptions for 45 yards. The 'Skins were unable to mount a serious rushing attack, finishing with just 71 yards on 26 carries. Despite the lopsided defeat, Port Clinton hopes to take something from the loss, having competed against a team that has won six state titles (in Division VI) in the last 15 years. “It's why we wanted to play them,” Hammond said. “You're not going to get better playing the Little Sisters of the Poor. (And) most of the mistakes are correctable.” This week, the 'Skins travel to Genoa to face the Comets. Last week, Genoa defeated Oak Harbor, 43-21, and has outscored its opponents 101-28 this season. The Comets have been a model of success over the last five seasons. During that time, Genoa has gone 48-2, won four conference titles and advanced to the playoffs each year. This season, the Comets are led by All-Ohio running back Kyle Nutter who has rushed 39 times for 397 yards (10.2 per-carry) and eight touchdowns. Genoa employs the Wing-T offense (three backs, one receiver) and runs the ball 80-90% of the time. Despite the fact the Comets have such a potent offense, Hammond is just as concerned about the Comets defense, which has, year in and year out, established itself as one of the best in the region.

Production Notes:

BY YANEEK SMITH Whenever Oak Harbor struck, Genoa responded. At two different points in the game, the Rockets were able to score a touchdown and cut the deficit to eight points, only to see the Comets respond each time to create some breathing room on their way to a 4321 victory over their cross-county rivals. Genoa scored first on a one-yard touchdown run by Kyle Nutter and made it 8-0 on the two-point conversion. They pushed the lead to 15-0 on a 44-yard pass from Logan Scott to Quin Spiess. Oak Harbor, which had failed to score on its first two drives, responded wth a 12play, 75-yard drive that featured a fourthdown conversion and ended with Austin Wiegand finding A.J. Cecil in the end zone for a nine-yard touchdown. On the ensuing kickoff, Genoa's Casey Gose returned it 72 yards to set the Comets up at Oak Harbor's 21-yard-line. Three plays later, Nutter scored from a yard out with four seconds remaining to give Genoa a 22-7 lead at halftime. While Oak Harbor head coach Mike May was pleased with his team's effort, he acknowledged that they made some costly mistakes. “We came out and played hard,” May said. “But we had some breakdowns and just couldn't finish it off.” The same thing happened in the second half. After the Rockets cut the deficit to 22-14, the Comets responded, running the ball five consecutive times for 37 yards before Scott hit Jake Young for a 26-yard touchdown to push the lead to 28-14.

Genoa was able to establish the run early, finishing with 32 carries for 205 yards as a team. The rushing attack set up the pass, and the Comets scored three touchdowns (44, 26, 52) on play-action fakes, which proved to be the difference in the game. “That game could've been very different without the three pass plays,” Wiegand said. Nutter finished with 23 carries for 160 yards and three touchdowns and Scott connected on all three of his passes for 122 yards and three touchdowns. Oak Harbor, which finished with 263 yards rushing as a team, was led by Wiegand, who had 129 yards on 22 carries. Running back Mark Konieczny finished with 23 carries for 90 yards and a touchdown. This week, the Rockets host Eastwood. Last season, the Eagles went 11-1, won the Northern Buckeye Conference title and advanced to the Division IV Regional Semifinals. However, this season has been more difficult for Eastwood as it has struggled to an 0-2 start. Both of their losses, though, have come against elite teams, Patrick Henry (40-28) and Clyde (28-23). Last season, the Eagles beat Oak Harbor, 52-14. Eastwood is known for its potent running attack and a defense that limits big plays. On top of that, the Eagles will be looking to win their first game of the season as they enter conference play, knowing that another loss or two could significantly hurt their chances of qualifying for the playoffs.

Danbury’s rally falls short in loss to Holgate
BY YANEEK SMITH After beginning the season with a dominating 63-20 win, Danbury fell 31-20 to Holgate last Friday to fall to 1-1 on the season. The Lakers got on the board first, scoring on a 50-yard touchdown pass from Zack Kalinoski to Brandon Bahnsen to take a 6-0 lead, only to see the Tigers respond with four straight touchdowns to take a 28-6 lead into the half. “I was really disappointed that we didn't get the win,” said Danbury head coach Bryan Dudash. “I thought we matched up pretty well with them. “They had us down 28-6 at halftime and we got the ball back and I told our guys to come out and execute (in the second half). I said, 'If we get a score and get a stop, we're back in the ballgame.' And that's what we did.” The Lakers responded, scoring on an 18-yard pass from Kalinoski to Cody German and cut the deficit to 28-20 on Kalinoski's one-yard touchdown run. However, the game was put out of reach when Holgate kicker Jakob Gerstung connected on a 24-yard field goal midway through the fourth quarter to push the lead to 31-20. “It was 28-20 in the fourth quarter and we just couldn't make a play,” Dudash said. “It was a combination of things. It was an onslaught of bad breaks and us not executing and that hurt. Cody German had an 88-yard touchdown that was called back (because of a penalty).” This Saturday, the Lakers travel to Sandusky to face St. Mary Central Catholic. Last season, the Panthers defeated Danbury in convincing fashion, 42-13. SMCC went 3-7 last season and has begun the 2012 season with an 0-2 record, though both losses have come to quality opponents, St. Paul (34-12) and St. Joseph CC (25-20). It is Danbury's last non-conference game before entering Toledo Area Athletic Conference play against Cardinal Stritch. Offensively, the Panthers like to pound the ball with running back Brandon Green and quarterback Alex Guerra and, if given the opportunity, will air it out. Defensively, SMCC has struggled thus far, allowing a combined 59 points. Danbury's athleticism could pose problems for the Panthers. In fact, the Lakers run the same spread offense that SJCC employs, and the Crimson Streaks were able to move the ball at times against SMCC. “They're bigger and stronger (than Holgate) and they hit a lot harder,” Dudash said of the Panthers. Currently, the Lakers rank 14th in Division VI, Region 22, with 1.75 points, just 0.60 points out of the final playoff spot (eighth place). Presale tickets are available for the Danbury football game at St. Mary’s in the Danbury Athletic Office. Adult tickets are $5 and student tickets are $4. All tickets at the gate are $6.
