The Colorado Heroes
By: Josh Mann The Three Men Who Gave Their Lives for The ones they Loved[/caption]The men are not all gone. Despite the steady decline of manhood, and the war that feminism, and secular humanism has declared on men they are not extinct. This site does not thrive on negativity, we simply are committed to analyzing everything through a biblical worldview and unfortunately most of what the world believes or does is diametrically opposed to biblical truth. This morning I was clicking through the major news network sites and I saw one on CNN that pulled me in. Male Heroism is not Dead <p>Tears filled my eyes as I read about Jon Blunk, Alex Teves and Matt McQuinn, and the sacrifice that they gave. Many of you may have heard about this story but if you haven't, it's heart wrenching. All three of these men did something that was both God-honoring and becoming of men, and becoming of manhood. During the Colorado shooting in Aurora, these three men pushed their girlfriends to the ground and threw their own bodies on top of them. The three girlfriends survived the shooting, but tragically, the heroism of the three men came with the highest cost. None of them survived the shooting. What would drive someone to do something like this? And why might their actions give us hope about the state of manhood? The Long War Against Boys To understand why their deeds are so significant, we must first understand that the state of manhood in the United States is deplorable. A recent survey found that more than 50% percent of all men ages 1824 are still living at home, while only 46% percent of women are. The survey goes on to report that 14% of men ages 24-34 are still living at home, while only 8% of women are. Another article entitled "ManCession" found that since 1996 women are more likely to graduate high school, more likely to get college degrees, and have been leaving the home to go to work increasingly since the sixties. The article goes on to report that women now make up 50% of the work force, while the number of stay at home dads has jumped up to one in five families with at least one stay at home parent. Why is this happening? Simply because the culture for a long time has been telling boys that there is no difference between men and women, that the "gender roles" are a thing of the past and despite the obvious biological differences between men and women, women can do anything men can do. According to yet another USA Today article entitled "Girls get School Help While Boys get Ritalin," boys receive attention-focusing medication four to eight times more than girls depending on the drug? Why? The article goes on to explain that the reason is that boys learn differently than girls. Boys are much more active learners; they want to build, explore, create in a very hands on way. Girls, on the other hand, are by nature more passive and are able to sit and learn for long periods of time. Which of the two learning styles to you think the public schools cater to? Perhaps the fact that according to the same article girls make up 75% of the national honor society will help you make up your mind. When you put all of this information

together it is clear that our culture has declared war on manhood and is trying to systematically stomp out any male aggression at all, and they are doing it from k-12, all the way through college. God's role for Men Despite all of society’s attempts to stifle any male behavior whatsoever, the Bible is clear on gender difference. 1st Peter 3:8 says "Husbands, in the same way be considerate as you live with your wives, and treat them with respect as the weaker partner and as heirs with you of the gracious gift of life, so that nothing will hinder your prayers." The simple truth is that God expects men to protect women. There is a clear biblical understanding that while both men and women are created in the image of God, the genders are not unilaterally equal, they have different roles. Then man's role is prophet (to teach his family Eph. 5), priest (to pray for his family 1 Tim. 2:8), protector (1 Peter 3:8), and provider (2 Thessalonians 3:10). The men who gave their lives protecting loved ones were behaving in a way that reflected the role that God had designed for them. No matter what the culture says, God made men to be warriors. Our calling to rise up and defend cannot be suppressed by indoctrination, or medication. It is in our nature to act like men, so therefore men rise up.
