LEED® GA 2009 Exam Preparation Course

54

Q: Do I need to take the LEED® Green Associate exam to
be eligible to take the LEED® AP exam?
• A: No. The LEED Green Associate exam is the first part of the LEED® AP
exam so you do not have to take it before you apply. In order to be
eligible for the LEED® AP exam, you must meet the eligibility
requirements.

Q: What if I pass only one part of the LEED® AP exam?
• A: If you pass one part of the LEED AP exam, you will have to retake only
the part you failed. Please note that you are still subject the restrictions
of per application period. For example, if it is your first attempt, you
three attempts will have two additional attempts within the application
period to take and pass the part you failed. (See How many times can I
take the exam during my application period? for more information.)
The Road to LEED® Credentials

55

Q: If I pass the first part (the LEED®
GA) but not the second (specialty),
can I call myself a LEED® GA?

Q: If I pass the second part (specialty)
but not the first (the LEED® GA), can I
call myself a LEED® AP?

• A: No. If you pass only the first part of the
LEED® AP exam, you are NOT a LEED Green
Associate. This is because you applied to be a
LEED AP and, with that application, you have
three attempts to pass the both parts of the
LEED AP exam.

• A: No. In order to become a LEED AP, you must
pass both parts of the LEED AP
exam. However, you will have to retake only
the part you failed. Please note that you are
still subject the restrictions of three attempts
per application period.

Q: What if I want to get an additional
specialty (other than the one I
originally enrolled in/tested for)?

Q: When will I receive my certificate?

• A: You will have to apply to take only the
specialty portion of the exam. The cost
associated with taking only a specialty exam is
$100 application fee; $150 exam fee for
USGBC national members and $250 exam fee
for non-members.

• A: Certificates are printed and mailed 6 to 8
weeks after your exam date to the primary
address in your My Credentials profile.

The Road to LEED® Credentials

56

Q: For how long is my application valid?
• A: An approved application is valid for ONE YEAR from the approval date.
Candidates are allotted three registrations per exam section per one-year
application period. This means that you have three chances to meet the
minimum competency score of 170 for any given LEED® professional
credentialing exam section while your application is active.

Q: How many times can I take the exam during my
application period?
• A: You are allotted three registrations per exam section per one year
application period..
For the LEED® Green Associate credential, this translates into three
attempts at the exam during the one year application period.
For a LEED® AP credential, you are allowed three attempts per section
during the one year application period. In this case, you will only be tested
on the section you have not passed.
The Road to LEED® Credentials

57

Q: What happens if my application expires?
• A: After an application expires, candidates are required to
wait 90 days before submitting a new application to GBCI.
This means that if you do not earn the credential with your
allotted registrations, or if you allow your application period
to expire without using your registrations, you must wait 90
days to reapply. If your application period expires, you must
once again demonstrate eligibility for your chosen credential
route when you reapply.

Q: When and where is the exam offered in Qatar?
• A: GBCI contracts with Prometric to administer the LEED® AP
exam on demand at their test sites in “Infocenter - Doha”, at
Salwa Road, near Midmac Flyover.
