Windsor Knot
The Windsor Knot is a thick, wide and triangular tie knot that projects confidence. It
would therefore be your knot of choice for presentations, job interviews, courtroom
appearances etc. It is best suited for spread collar shirts and it's actually quite easy
to do.
While just about everyone can use this tie knot to tie his tie, it looks especially well
on men with longer necks as its wide form shortens the perceived height of the neck
a little bit.
To tie the Windsor Knot, select a tie of your choice and stand in front of a mirror.
Then simply follow the steps below:

1) The wide end "W" should extend about 12
inches below narrow end "N". Cross wide end "W"
over narrow end "N".

2) Bring wide end "W" up through loop between
collar and tie; then back down.

3) Pull wide end "W" underneath narrow end "N"
and to the left, back through the loop and to the
left again so that the wide end "W" is inside out.

4) Bring wide end "W" across the front from left
to right.

5) Pull wide end "W" up through the loop again.

6) Bring wide end "W" down through the knot in
front.

7) Using both hands, tighten the knot carefully
and draw up to collar.

Congratulations, you did it! You see, it is not rocket science after all. Simply keep
practicing the Windsor Knot a few more times until you can tie it within less than 30
seconds.

Half Windsor Knot

The Half Windsor Knot, a modest version of the Windsor Knot, is a symmetrical and
triangular tie knot that you can use with any dress shirt. It works best with
somewhat wider ties made from light to medium fabrics.
To tie the Half Windsor Knot, select a tie of your choice and stand in front of a mirror.
Then simply follow the steps below:

1) The wide end "W" should extend about 12
inches below narrow end "N". Cross wide end "W"
over narrow end "N".

2) Bring wide end "W" up around and behind
narrow end "N".

3) Bring wide end "W" up.

4) Pull wide end "W" up and through the loop.

5) Bring wide end "W" around front, over narrow
end "N" from left to right.

6) Again, bring wide end "W" up and through the
loop.

7) Bring wide end "W" down through the knot in
front.

8) Using both hands, tighten the knot carefully
and draw up to collar.

And there you are! Simply keep working on it and be sure to practice a few times
until you are really good at it.

Four in Hand Knot

The Four in Hand Knot makes for a narrow, more discreet and slightly asymmetrical
tie knot. It is best suited for a standard button-down dress shirt and works best with
wide ties made from heavy fabrics.
While this tie knot can be worn by anyone, it looks especially well on men with
shorter necks as the knot's rather narrow and elongated form stretches the
perceived height of the neck a tiny bit.
To tie the Four in Hand Knot, select a tie of your choice and stand in front of a mirror.
Then simply follow the steps below:

1) The wide end "W" should extend about 12
inches below narrow end "N". Cross wide end "W"
over narrow end "N".

2) Turn wide end "W" back underneath narrow
end "N".

3) Continue by bringing wide end "W" back over
in front of narrow end "N" again.

4) Pull wide end "W" up and through the loop
around your neck.

5) Hold the front of the knot loosely with your
index finger and bring wide end "W" down
through front loop.

6) Remove finger and tighten knot carefully to
collar by holding narrow end "N" and sliding the
knot up.

That's it! That is all there is to the Four in Hand Knot. You will quickly learn to tie this
knot in less and less time every time you practice it. Just keep going, my friend!

Pratt Knot
The Pratt Knot - also known as the Shelby Knot - is tidy and fairly wide, yet not as
wide as the Windsor Knot. It is well suited for any dress shirt and somewhat wider
ties made from light to medium fabrics.
To tie the Pratt Knot, select a tie of your choice and stand in front of a mirror. Then
simply follow the steps below:

1) Start with the tie inside out, The wide end "W"
under the narrow end "N".

2) Take wide end "W" over and under narrow end
"N".

3) Pull the loop down and tighten.

4) Take wide end "W" over to the left.

5) Pull wide end "W" up, behind the loop.

6) Bring wide end "W" through the knot and
gently tighten. The widest part of the tie should
be on the same height as the top of your belt
buckle.

Awesome, you did it! Always remember that with any tie knot - such as the Pratt

Knot - a little practice is all it takes to become a real expert at tying your tie in no
time.

Seven Tips to Speed up your PC
By David Fraser
Did you know that not very long after you start using your computer it
begins to slow down and loses that responsive, “fresh out of the box”
feel? You’ve just bought your new super-speed top of the range
computer. You start surfing the internet, downloading a few new
programs to try out and then a few weeks later you’re working away
and you notice it just doesn’t seem as fast as it was before. If that’s
ever happened to you, then there are a few things you should know
which will be covered in this article that will get the pep back into your
PC.
Step 1 Free programs on the internet are not always what they seem.
Often something else is, going on behind the scenes, the installing of
Adware or Scumware as it’s sometimes known. This usually consists of
programs that run in the background and advertise various websites
that are targeted to your preferences. These programs take up
valuable system resources and should be cleaned out. Programs such
as Gator (form filler) and Kazza (music sharing) are well known
examples of this but there are many others. The solution to this is for
you to download one or both of these free programs. Adaware 6.0 at
http://www.tucows.com/preview/236049.html Or Spybot search and
Destroy at:- http://www.safer-networking.org/index.php?
page=download Use them to clean up your system regularly.
Step 2 Almost every program you load on your computer wants to be
top dog. When you install the program it usually sets itself up in your
startup list. This means that whenever you start up your computer the
program loads itself into memory whether you are going to use it or
not thus slowing down your system. If you hit the Control-Alt-Delete
keys once, you will see all the programs that are running in the
background.
The more you have running that you don’t need, the more memory is
used up and the slower and less stable the system will be. Things like
Anti-Virus programs and “system tray” should be left running but many
others can be shut down.

To do this in windows 98/ME, hit “Start”-“Run”- and type in “msconfig”
and enter, then choose the right hand top tab marked “startup”
Uncheck all the programs that you aren’t using frequently. You will still
be able to run them normally from your start menu. Most of the
programs can be identified by the program names at the right hand
side any that can’t, you can always type it into google and see what
comes up. Occasionally you find programs loaded here that are
malicious programs such as Trojans or Browser hijackers that you
definitely don’t want. To get rid of them search for the filename in
Google and then see if it comes up as a nasty and then get the info on
how to remove from the spyware website. You will notice a definite
improvement in startup speed and general running when these are
removed.
Step 3 Windows registry is the section of windows that contains all the
information relating to your system and software. As time goes by it
can get extremely bloated and even if you are not using the old
programs anymore the time taken to search through registry is
increased. Uninstalling the programs rather than just deleting the files
will ensure that the entries in the registry are removed and this helps
keep the size under control. Another little utility you might find useful
is called “EasyCleaner”and it's great for cleaning out all these
unwanted files and registry entries that were somehow left behind. You
can also use it to locate temporary files used by various programs that
just clog up your hard drive and slow things down. It’s a free utility you
can download from:- http://www.docsdownloads.com/easycleaner.htm
Step4 Invest in a good antivirus program such as Shield-Antivirus or
Panda anti-virus and keep it regularly updated. Having a virus on your
system can not only wreak havoc with your system speed but can lead
to more serious problems. You can check out Shield at:http://www.pcsandthings.com/shield-antivirus.htm or Pest Patrol at:www.pcsandthings.com/pestpatrol.htm
or Panda at:- Http://www.pandasoftware.com
Step 5 When Windows loads it installs all available fonts. This not only
takes up space but also valuable time. Deleting fonts that you will
never use will help streamline things a bit more. To view the installed
fonts, select Start, Run, type “fonts”, and press Enter. To see what a
font looks like, double-click its icon. You can delete a font by right
clicking it and selecting Delete, but it’s safer to uninstall it by dragging
it to another folder so you can always drag it back if you really need it.
You must do this dragging (in either direction) from within Windows
Explorer. Moving or copying a font to or from the C:WindowsFonts
folder via DOS commands or some other utility won’t properly install or

uninstall it. Some fonts should stay put, such as Windows system fonts,
which have the extension .fon instead of .ttf. The icon for a system font
has a red ‘A’ rather than a gray-blue ‘TT’. System fonts are usually
hidden files, but they’re visible in the Fonts folder in Explorer. They
disappear when you move them elsewhere, though. Some applications
require specific fonts, such as Arial, Verdana or Times New Roman, so
you’d better keep them around. Any other ones you don’t use can be
moved to another folder. More info about this can be found at:http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;234749
Step 6 A few basic pointers for optimising your system. (1) From the
desktop right click on the “my computer” icon and select properties.
Select “file system” and under the hard disc tab, where it says “for
typical role of this computer” select “network server” in the drop down
menu as this speeds up transfers. (2) Under floppy disc make sure the
little box is not ticked as this increases boot up time slightly when it's
checked. (3) On Internet Explorer, while surfing the net, images are
stored on the hard drive in a section called the cache. This is useful if
you are using a slow dial-up connection as it means the most used
images don’t have to be continually downloaded so surfing speeds are
increased.
If the cache size is too great then Explorer has to check through all the
images before it downloads them and this can slow up browsing. The
optimum size is a bit, hit or miss, but with ADSL or cable the cache can
be set much smaller as the images download quickly. Also when the
cache is too large, the files get fragmented (this is covered later) and
the hard disc thrashes around trying to piece it all together thus
slowing everything down. It’s a matter of trial and error but I wouldn’t
recommend much more than 50MB for a slow connection and about
10MB for ADSL. Adjustment is made by clicking on Internet explorer
“tools” and “Internet options” then under “temporary Internet files”
the settings button and use the slider to adjust the amount. (4)A great
program for optimising various parts of your computer is one called
“Speed up my PC” With this you can set it automatically to take care of
memory usage and can prevent system crashes at awkward times. It’s
not free this one but it’s worth taking a look. You can read more about
it here:- http://www.pcsandthings.com/speed_up_my_pc.htm
Step 7 De-fragment your hard drive. Sounds a bit severe but it’s
something that should be done fairly regularly. Your computer works
efficiently when the data it takes from the hard drive to process in
memory is all in one place and doesn’t take very long to fetch. After
using your computer for a while, related files get broken up into
fragments and are scattered all over the disc. This happens in normal
use but it can significantly increase the time it takes to collect it all up.

A bit like you going to another room to fetch your files from a filing
cabinet and if they were all together it would be easy to collect them. If
on the other hand they were in different cabinets all dotted around the
room then you get the idea. The thing to do is run the defragmenter
that comes with Windows. Double click “My Computer” and then Right
click the icon for drive C: and then click properties. Select defragment
and follow the instructions. This process can take a long time on a
large hard drive with badly fragmented files, so it may be advisable to
set this running at a quiet time computer wise or even over night.
There is another program I highly recommend for defragmenting which
is called “Diskeeper Lite” and is much better than the built-in version
that Windows has. It is available for a free download plus some more
articles about fragmentation of files from:http://www.executive.com/downloads/menu.asp
Defragmenting is best done as the last step.
Carrying out the above actions will make your PC run faster, be more
stable with less crashes and therefore less stress and frustration from
lost work. So get started now and clean up your PC and make it a habit
to do it regularly and keep your system running at peak performance.
Don’t forget one of the most efficient upgrades you can do to your PC
is to add some more Memory. This is probably the single most costeffective improvement you can make to a slower machine. Buy direct
from the manufacturer at:- http://www.pcsandthings.com/crucial.htm
They have a system selector so you can choose the correct RAM for
your PC.

Four Proven Techniques On
How To Capture Positive
Habits:
By Catherine Franz
Bad habits, we all have them. They keep us from accomplishing our
dreams, make us say and do things that really aren't in our integrity.

Good habits allow us to transition through our day on autopilot. So
much so, we forget that our good habits have a bigger strong hold.
Dr. Phil McGraw, TV-psychologist and Oprah offspring, says that we
need to, "Behave our way to success." I cringe when I hear this, don't
you? It sounds so easy. Yet, we both know it isn't.
Positive psychology, the scientific study of happy, confident people,
presents many proven techniques that assist in transitioning bad
habits into good habits. Here are four proven techniques:
1. In order to eliminate a bad habit, it must be overridden with a good
habit. Not eliminated but replaced. When the good habit becomes
stronger, it naturally takes over and folds into our life. Usually
becoming transparent because it melts into our life and we have
already uncovered the next one to work on.
It doesn't matter whether you want to replace the habit of lateness,
cursing, or overeating. The habit's intensity determines the effort and
time required to replace. Don't confuse effort with will power--they
aren't the same.
Effort is making a variety of alternatives until the old habit melts into a
new one. The right amount of effort will always be different for you
than anyone else. There isn't an exact measurement because each of
our unique qualities.
2. Discipline is an exercise of repetition. Not once or twice but until.
Until completed.
For instance, writing isn't a natural talent. Yes, research shows that it
helps to start the process young. Yet, there are female Pulitzer Prize
winners who began writing in their fifties -- after family obligations.
They replaced their family responsibilities with the discipline needed to
be a successful writer. They disciplined their way to success.
Most people think positive thinkers naturally flow with confidence. Yet,
positive psychology statistics dispel this myth. What's different is the
amount of time and space they allow when negative habits or
messages appear. They appear incandescent to them.
3. Rewards. As managing partner of a CPA firm for 15 years, I thought
rewards meant bonuses and paid massages. After attending Coach
University and intensifying my study in the Laws of Attraction, my
perspective shifted. Positive people don't need an outside push; they

seemingly have a natural internal push that continually pulls them
forward. Sometimes labeled as determination or drive.
When Donald Trump appeared on the Oprah show in April, Oprah asked
him, "I heard very successful people don't even see negative." Donald
chewed on this for a few long television minutes and then responded,
"Yes, that is why I hire others who can see what I can't.... Negative isn't
on my radar screen."
4. Be assertive on what's fueling you, as diligent about all things in
your realm, as the quality of food you digest, and the purity of the
water you drink.
To create a garden of positive habits, surround yourself with flowers not
figurative speaking either. Complete a regular inventory. See each item
for its truth, intention, and influence. Don't wave it off as "not that big
of a deal."
Remove negative people, negative television shows, movies, books,
even conversations. If Mama, spouse, sister, or brother fits this
description, explain its impact on your life. Don't blame, explain.
Explain how it affects your success, your dreams. I'm sure they do
what they do out of habit and not purposeful. If presented honestly and
lovingly the people involved will see the gift.
An ideal choice is to use a positive clean-burning fuel. This begins with
new words (language) to self and others. Each of us make choices
every second. Get up, sit down, speak, listen, and so on. Make new
choices, ones that fuel positive habits.
Take inventory on your environment and what you tolerate. What is
broken, dented, stained? Fix, toss, give away, replace. Eliminate each
ball and chain, one at a time, in baby steps. You will walk taller, talk
and think clearer. You will attract more results that are positive into
your life. Positive attracts positive--the Law of Attraction.
Fuel your surroundings with meaningful and beautiful things. That
doesn't mean expensive. It can simply be a fresh rose on your desk
every week and the stopping by the florist or your own garden.
Many habits tend to hide under the bed until dusted. Expect as you
replace one, another can appear. Yes, they eventually become fewer.
Stay focused and remember, "A rose isn't a rose without all its
beautiful petals."

Be aggressive. When they appear, and they will, knock them down,
toss them out with the trash. And quickly. Don't give them room to
smell or grow. You'll soon discover each day will be lighter, brighter,
and even more successful than the one before. I promise!
These four techniques, continually proven by hundreds of my workshop
graduates, will work for you too. They will multiply your dreams and
successes over night. Begin small, begin big, just begin, and keep the
momentum going...until.
